Are we going to be at Castaway on Mother's Day?

OMG (oh, in Utah that would be OH MY GOSH!)

Just realized that not only will we be on the ship for Mother's Day, it will also be my birthday that same day..Sunday, May 11th. (that would be my 29th birthday......:rotfl2: )

Yippee, two celebrations in one!

DD has missed 13 days since August!! Nine for our double dip and days at WDW, two when her big brother (DS18) graduated from recruit training, one for pink eye, and one for some bug. I'm going to ask at her conference tomorrow, but I don't think she even has the most days missed!

I wish you could bring your son, too! Will his school allow independent study??

Carolyn

Not sure about independent study. I somehow doubt it, but don't know for sure.

ibouncetoo....

count me in on the olives and vodka snack...the DCL popcorn is VERY BAD!!! i will be spending the next few months trying to taste some bagged popcorn near us to decide which one to send with us....

We haven't found any prepopped plain popcorn we like, but we do like Smartfood's White Cheddar popcorn.

Catoctin Kettle Corn is good too. popcorn::

That is so neat!! My DH's birthday is on the 8th so I feel bad when he has had to share his Birthday with me. It has been a little while since that has happened. You are so funny about OMG! True but funny! All my family live in Riverton!

I have to go pick up my DD from preschool. It has been a great morning getting all my housework done without her here. NOT!!!!Darn DIS!!!

We took our DD Jamie on a trip through the PC when she was in 6th grade on Royal Carribean (not even thinking that DCL would do it 2 years later). When we asked her teacher, she said "she will learn alot more going through the canal then in a textbook". What we did with Jamie was have her read the PC books before we left and then we put a map up on the wall in our stateroom to chart the course along the way and then we had her write in a journal each night. She took pictures and then upon returning she did a power point presentation for her 6th grade class to show them the canal. The teacher said it was one of the highlights of the year.

Now that she is in high school, I can't get her away long enough from her "friends". I don't think missing 11 days of school would be a big deal, however, she couldn't survive that long without socializing with her circle of friends. I'm thinking we will have her fly down on Saturday of the holiday weekend and have her meet us at the port. She'll be 16 then. I'll have our friends that live there (that aren't on the cruise) pick her up at the airport and then we can all go to DL for the day. Then we will probably stay until Monday night and fly out on the last flight to Salt Lake City out of Santa Ana (Orange County).

i just had another brilliant idea....

since we are shipping our own deck chairs, lets ship a microwave too...that way we can all have fresh microwave popcorn for the movies!!!! popcorn::

If you come to Riverton between now and May, 2008, let us know, we could have a pre-cruise Utah Mini-meet.

That would definitely be a first for the disboard for Utah!

Might want to check...Here they want the kids IN SCHOOL every day to get federal money (or is it state?), so they will let students enroll in independent study for any preplanned extended absence. That way, you and DS would get to go and the school would get their money. Oh, and your DS would get the education...But, hey, Michigan's never claimed to be California, who knows what their requirements are.

Sorry that was Disneyfans that started the thread not liserann. Here it is.http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1344696

Thanks - I just looked at the thread. One post about made me cry:

"Hi,

Many great points here. I would like to offer a different perspective. My son usually misses 1 week a year of school to go on a Disney trip. He is 14. He is my youngest child and I really wanted to spend some quality time with him. After all this is it he will be grown and gone soon. I always had told people that I felt family time is just as important as school time. He has good grades and has always made up all his missed work. Now skip back to this past summer. We got devastating news that my son had Hodgkin's Lymphoma(cancer). The week we spent in the hospital we spent many an hour talking about all our past Disney trips. I am so HAPPY i chose to do what i did and spend the time with him on trips. Life is too short and you never know what will be thrown at you. Do not feel guilty about missing school. My son is cured now and just finished the end of his treatment on Friday. I know there will be more trips and more missed school. What will he remember in life-the fact that he missed school or the time we spend as a family.
School is important but so is our precious limited time with our children.

Bug and Slinkyman"

WE HAVE TO GO! I can't wait to spend 15 days without work, without cell phones, just with my kids and husband. I can't recall ever doing that. This will be the time! I can't wait. Lisa

We took our youngest DD's BF with us to Europe when both girls were 16. I think it makes a huge difference to teenagers to have a friend along. When my other two kids DD and DS were kids, they had each other to travel with and for company. Youngest DD was only child, so it seemed we were always bringing another friend along on trips, cruises etc.

Just my thoughts....

for all of you wanting airfare....

KAYAK.COM is the best place i have found for airfare...it searches all airlines (except Southwest Airlines!!!!) for anything you want....

Cindy, how can we have a No. CA mini meet if your kids don't know....you must tell them. Then we can share our stories of how the kids are BUGGING us to death....:lmao:

I guess that means I will have to tell them...on the way to the mini meet. :lmao: :lmao: This way they could share all their excitement with everyone. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi Lisa,

Welcome. My DS will be 8 on the cruise. I am sure he will enjoy meeting your boys. (My DD's will be 6 and 4). We just missed you - went on the Jan 6 Eastern Magic (our first).

I am having the same issue with school for DS. I thought about doing the Transatlantic this May and spoke to the principal about the attendance policy. Was a bit discouraging - but I plan to do it anyway. I think the benefits will far outweight the costs.

Ellyn

Great - my 6 (will be 7 year old) boy loves everything with Princesses. All his best friends are girls. When are you going to tell your school about the trip? Lisa
