As a DVC Member, Pool Hopping to anyother DVC or Disney Resort is
permitted except for Stormalong Bay, correct except for blackout dates?

Obviously you can use Stormalong Bay if you are staying at the BC Villas...

Someone said DVC members just show their card if asked at a pool?????

Thx in advance!

The AKL pool is also off limits for pool hopping. You are supposed to ask at the front desk if the pool hopping would be allowed, because the pool may be already crowded with resort guests. Bring your DVC member card, but we weren't asked to show it. We only did pool hopping once, to the pool at POR and it was a fun morning after a delicious breakfast at Boatwrights!

Does anyone know why the AKL pool was made off-limits? I've always been curious about this. There's really nothing special about it like SAB.

Chances are it's a throwback to the resort's original opening. When AKL first opened its doors, Disney feared people would treat it like an attraction and make special trips out simply to view the animals at no charge.

The resort had a standing policy of not allowing vehicles on property unless the occupants were registered guests or had an existing dining reservation. Restricting pool hopping was another way of keeping loiterers off property.

I believe the official policy, not that it is always followed, is that you have to show your WDW room key that says "DVC Member" on it, rather than your DVC membership card. This keeps those members who are not staying on their points, or who are local residents, from using the pool.

It is my understanding anyone who is staying on points(renters) says DVC member on the key which is why you are suppose to show member card as well as room key. I'm pretty new to this so I could be incorrect.

Yes, you are correct. You'll need to show that you are staying at a DVC resort on points (thus DVC Member on the room ID) AND your blue membership card.

And pool hopping is also prohibited to any of the pools at YC, BC and BCV, not just SAB.

I think you're exactly right.

I think it helps (hurts?) that AKL has only one pool, for a pretty big resort, too.

Pool Hopping Information (from DVC "Perks" pamphlet), SO THIS IS DIRECTLY FROM DISNEY!!

"You and any guests staying with you at OKW, BWV, WLV, BCV, SSR, or AKV are permitted to use other DVC and WDW Resort Hotel pools (in addition to the pool at here resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate guest of that resort hotel. Please check with a host/hostess at the fron desk of the resor hotel you wish to visit to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current "Key to the World" card with the "Disney Vacation Club Member" designation on it to use other Resort Hotel pools".

"Pool Hopping is NOT available at Stormalong Bay and the leisure pools at Disney Y&B Club Resorts, or at Uzima Pool at AKL. There are no exceptions to this policy".

So, if you're a DVC member staying at a resort, you can use almost any pool at any resort in Disney World

The reason pool hopping is not allowed at the Uzima Springs pool at AKL is due to capacity. AKL is a large resort and since there is no quiet pool it was decided not to allow pool hoppers from other DVC resorts. It's more of a capacity issue at AKL versus a popularity issue at Yacht & Beach Club.

This was my assumption. AKL pool is just too small to accomodate other resort guests.

Was SSR on the "no hopping" list for a while or did I imagine that?

D4D

Back before SSR opened there was a lot of speculation on the boards that it would be a no hopping pool. Its small for the size of the resort. It isn't and never was, but it is a CROWDED pool - nice, but wouldn't be my first choice to hop because its out of the way and crowded.
