Ok we are back from our Sunrise Safari and DH is taking a nap so I will post our Boma dinner last night. I booked a 4:45 dinner in hopes of the place not being too busy so I could take alot of close up buffet shots for you guys...that was not going to happen because this place was packed to the gills. I also wanted to make it to Epcot for the final concert 7:45 Jon Secada, last night was the last night he was going to be there.
I started off with this yummy little cocktail:
I made sure to take a pic of the menu so you can see the ingredients. It was incredible, nice and cold and wonderful and oh so could I die a happy girl. Until I finished the drink...get this, the glass is broken from the rim straight down, nice big crack...thank god I did not drink off that side or cut my lip or something.....I was freaked that I drank broken glass chips but DH said there wasnt any chips out of the crack. I brought it to the attention of my server and he apologized profusely and even though I said no brought me out another drink, which of course I drained! I was feeling mighty good let me tell ya!
DH stuck with ice tea, he is on a lot of pain meds so he is not doing much drinking this trip.
So I have to tell ya, I love Boma breakfast, I mean to the point that if I could marry Boma breakfast I would, it is that good. I was so looking forward to Boma dinner, I wanted to love it, I ignored bad reviews, I went into it with an open mind....but I didnt like it. There were a few items I liked but the majority of them I did not...not even the desserts. DH did not care for it either. Let me explain.....
When we were promptly seated at 4:45 there wasnt a line for the meat section, that changed in 5 minutes. When we got our first plates and headed back to the table the line for the meat was 20 people or more deep....this is nuts. It was like that the entire time we were there.
The prime rib was to die for..DH had a well done piece that cut like budda (thats Butter to you non NYorkers) and I had medium rare that was just amazing, the ribs had fall off the bone meat but there were super duper spicy and had a heavy cinnamon/vanilla flavor too them that we did not care for. The bobutie (sp?) was gross. The potatoes with afritude was missing the 'tude and I had to salt and pepper them myself. The roasted chicken was very good.
The soup selection was a miss that night, carrot ginger BLECH, seafood something BLECH, Chicken pepper pot (was empty each time I went up to the buffet) and a lentil sausage BLECH. I went for the coconut curry chicken soup. This should be called the red pepper soup, the taste was way overpowering with a back taste of cocount, SUPER BLECH.
I had a greens salad with mango vinigrette otherwise known as sugar dressing, way too sweet and I could not eat it.
DH went for the regular balsamic and liked it.
Here is my second plate. The little brown balls are falafel balls with mustard yogurt sauce, these were to die for and I should have just ate a plate of these....just amazing! Below that is the curry macaroni salad that was very good, in the middle kool slai that was terrible, above the falafel balls is the coconut rice which is just weird, the three little blobs on the left are the sundried tomato hummus that tasted like pizza sauce, the middle one is the black bean hummus that tasted like (these are DH's words not mine) B.O. and the last one is the white bean hummus that had no taste at all. Up top is some square white thing that tasted like potato, couscous that was super spice and pita pieces.
This is DH's plate, pita pieces, couscous, coconut rice and watermelon tomato salad that he said was just weird.
DH was not feeling Boma so he had a big plate of fruit, it was fantastic.
Onto what should have been the saving grace of Boma, the desserts...well it wasnt....it was blah. We got a serving of everything except the fruit cobbler.
The first plate, start at the top and the best, the banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce and rum sauce. This was to die for and we inhaled it! To the right are 2 custard tarts but the flaky puff pastry was not good, it fell apart as you ate it. Below that is the cocomisu which DH liked but I didnt care for it, tasted like cool whip with coconut mixed in. To the left are 2 chocolate chip cookies that were ok, the famed zebra domes which neither of us care for (this was the second time we tried them and we just done like em). Above them is a small piece of flourless chocolate cake that was ok.
Second plate, at the top is a super thick chocolate mousse that is very rich, under that are two pieces of the chocolate cake again, a sugar cookie and oatmeal cookie that were both good, under that is a melk tart that had no taste at all, next to that is who knows what but it was hard and tasteless, above that is a pineapple upside down cheesecake that was good but very sweet.
The waiter then brought me out a birthday treat. The berries were sour, DH cut the chocolate off the little cakes and that was excellent but the little cakes were hard and gross.
I'm sorry guys, I really wanted to like or love Boma but it just isnt for us. At least we tried it!
