Ok, on with my V&A review.
After the fish course, our waitress advised that bread wasn't served with the entree, but enquired if we would like another piece of any of the three we'd sampled previously. I declined but DH opted for another piece of the Brioche which was quickly delivered.
For my entree I chose the kurobuta pork tenderloin and belly with baby beets and sherry bacon vinaigrette. Again not being much of a meat eater I'm no expert on pork, but believe me if it always tasted like this I'd definitely be trying it more often. In short this was an excellent dish, the tenderloin was pink and incredibly tender and juicy, while the belly almost literally melted in your mouth. It was served with a type of potato gratin, which was gorgeous as well and although the menu says baby beets, I really can't remember it containing any. Although this wasn't a massive portion, I really struggled to finish it after all the courses I'd already consumed, and it did pain me to leave some behind.
DH's entree was a type of combination platter with zellwood corn risotto, potato turnip gratin and petite french lentils. He really enjoyed this entree and said each dish was fabulous. The risotto was rich and creamy, but his favourite was the lentils which he said had were incredibly flavourful. There was another dish on this plate (shown in the top left of the picture) but it's not mentioned on the menu and DH can't remember what it was.
Following the mains there was a choice of cheese or gelato. I chose the White Chocolate Gelato which was sprinkled with shavings of white chocolate after being served to you. This was gorgeous, with a really powerful white chocolate flavour, and the shavings adding a different texture and even more chocolatey taste.
Surprisingly DH chose the cheese selection, which consisted of Colston Bassett stilton, Roves de Garrigues and Comte Forte Rousses. He was in heaven with this cheese plate, declaring it the best of the trip and the stilton was his favourite out of the three cheeses.
Finally we got to the last course, although I was well and truly stuffed by this point. I had the Caramalised Banana Gateau, as I thought it might be a bit lighter than the souffle I'd had last time. This consisted of a thin sponge base, a very creamy banana flavoured filling and pieces of caramalised banana, topped with a pretty spun sugar decoration. This was very nice but by this point I was too full to really enjoy it, and only ate around half.
DH had the creme brulee. He said this was a very nice creme brulee, the texture was perfectly smooth and thick, plenty of vanilla flavouring and a good, thick burnt sugar topping.
Finally to finish off, we had some of their excellent coffee and were given some little sweets to eat with it.
Overall we had an absolutely fantastic and memorable meal here, and although expensive we both felt it was well worth the money. All the food was great, and DH had some interesting and unique vegetarian dishes. We both felt the chef's at V&A showed just how good vegetarian food can be, if the right chef is creating it.
We'll definitely be returning to V&A next year. Coming up next, our day at the F&W festival.
