Hi Podcasters

Sorry if this question sounds bit dopey, but I am Australian and we t-h-i-n-k s-l-o-w-l-y Downunder.

DH is a university lecturer and we usually arrange our holidays to coincide with conferences. While he presents, I get to go exploring with DD then we can add a few days afterwards to check out the area.

With a 5 year old DD he has promised to look for one in Orlando after she had a blast in Hong Kong Disney

Well there is a conference in his subject area in Miami from 8-10 December, which just about aligns with the podcast cruise:dance3:.

I was wondering (geddit) how feasible it would be to hire a car and drive up to Port Canaveral on the evening of 10 December, spend 11 Dec at the Space Centre then hand in the car keys on the 12th at the port.

Afterwards I will "try" and swing a few days at Swan/Dolphin (does the teachers' discount apply to Australian teachers / lecturers??)

Is this plan possible?? it is only a dream at this stage as DH has to get a paper accepted first, but I really wanted to know how much of a drive it was from Miami to the port. BTW, DH has no troulble driving for 10 hrs to other holiday places.

thanks

Tracey

Hi Tracey.

It is certainly possible to rent a car in Miami and drive to PC. The major rental agencies (Avis, Hertz, Budget) all have offices in the PC/Cocoa Beach area. I've done this for past cruises. I'll typically drop the luggage and people off at the port and take the car back. I'll hop on the rental agencies shuttle back to the port.

A one way rental may cost a bit more, so shop around for your best rate. The drive from Miami to PC should be 4-5 hours, depending on traffic.

Kennedy Space Center is an amazing place to visit.

Hubby is going all "cultual"

I mentioned the idea to him & he has suggested hiring a pickup for the drive. :rotfl2: Some honking big F350 that will cost $100 of fuel just to get out of the hotel parking lot. Forget global warming, just be the biggest thing on the roads

That's a little bit of overkill, even for the South!

Don't know about the big honkn' truck - but I've had really good luck w/ Avis, they were very easy to work w/ great shuttle to the port and very close.

I'll be using them when I go in November for our 3 day cruise.

I've done this before from Miami with Avis. They had the best rates and good service at Port Canaveral.
