I thought it was an 18% automatic tip?

The tip (whatever % it is) is on the total bill. The tax (6.5%) is on the amount after the TITW discount (and before tip is added, of course).

.

Yes, I think you are correct 18% tip.
The high end range on my cake is $100, so I guess I technically will save $2.13. (I'm not great w/ math so that possibly is wrong ;) )

The thought of a $100 cake (I was told $92 to $100 and if they can do it for $92 they would) seemed a bit overboard at first. But, when I think it really isn't much more than a good bottle of wine and dessert for everyone, it isn't so bad. (Can you tell I have been justifying this to myself :rotfl:).?

Pat was great on the phone and seemed excited about the cake. When she initially heard I wanted a Minnie cake, she offered the standard Minnie head for $48. When I explained that I wanted something more custom as DS had loosely designed a cake, she was happy to talk with me. DS has autism so I was trying to go by his picture and what he told me. I want him to be proud of his design.

(I didnt get into it w/ Pat, but DS loves birthday cakes. Not so much eating them, but insists everyone has them and they always have a theme. Often the adults get his favorite cartoon characters. Initially, he chose Lion King for me, but I suggested he think about it more. ;) So, this works out great we'll be at WDW for my 40th (ugh), I love the cakes and he has the chance to participate.)

I explained DS's vision is Minnie Mouse in a flower garden with only pink flowers :confused3, a butterfly and a ladybug.

I didn't want to be too pushy and ask for anything else, but Pat started coming up with ideas right away. A Minnie topper (I'm not sure what this will be, I'm guessing white chocolate) green fondant, piping, some grass, maybe a fence in the back. I reminded her that the butterfly and ladybug are very important and she said no problem. She was obviously very interested and said ____ (I think she gave a name, but maybe said something else) really likes making these kinds of cakes. I can't wait to see the end result and of course to share a picture here.

The cake is 8 inches. I asked about mousse filling types and she said regular chocolate or white chocolate. I chose regular. Not sure if she was just trying to be brief or if that is all they are offering for the 8 inch cakes. Whichever, it is fine with me.

She is going to call if after she talks with "them" the price will exceed $100.

Very pleasant ordering experience.

I got mocha mousse in an 8" cake from the Grand earlier this month. I didn't ask what my options were, I just "told" her that's what I wanted. Somewhere around here there is a list of fillings that are available at the Grand.

Well, I easily justified about $65 worth of it. Desserts at Citrico's are all $8, so an 8 inch cake cut into eight servings is no different that everyone ordering a regular dessert. I'm willing to go over that for the WOW factor. :thumbsup2

And didn't you get that fabulous 8 inch cake for only $62 ??? I wonder why the price quotes are jumping all over the place. Unless WendyDarling's quote is more because of the fondant?

And we've had a poster who got a custom designed 8 inch cake for under $75. (was that you? I should go back and look) So I'm surprised at WendyDarlings $92 quote (or....is that a 10 inch cake?).

.

No, 8" cake.
I think she said the topper is $30 (that's why I'm guessing she is planning on a white chocolate, but I don't know. I didn't ask.)
Then, covered with fondant. I really didn't care if they did that or not and didn't request it. She just said that is what they would do. I just want it to look nice, so I guess she thought that would be most fitting.
I hope it is pretty and I most hope DS is excited to see the cake he designed to look really beautiful. I know that he will be so proud--if that works out, it's worth the $.

ETA:
Quote: $92 -- $100 (will call if price will exceed $100)
GF --8 inch chocolate w/ chocolate mouse, Minnie Mouse topper (I am unsure of type), fondant with buttercream under, decorated w/ flower garden theme. Ordered yesterday.

I knew somebody would quote me before I researched and edited! :lmao:

Well, green fondant would be a great foundation for Minnie's flower garden. I can't wait to see the pictures! And if the Minnie is an extra $30, that would explain the jump to the $90 range (30something cake, 30something custom decoration, 30something chocolate Minnie topper).

Uh oh...spent too long playing with cakes...time to hit the shower! :rolleyes1

HI, I know it came up a while back, but I never actually saw a response -

Has anyone ever ordered a Christmas themed cake, or are you planning to? :santa:

If so - are there any photos anywhere as I haven't been able to find any - I'm not even sure if they will do a Christmas cake??:confused3

thanks for any info!:lovestruc

When I check-in at CRT, will the person at the desk on the computer see that I ordered a slipper dessert for the meal? I would like to make sure that it's there that night but I don't want to mention it if it's not on their screen and seem crazy.

There was Christmas cakes in the 1st cake thread. I'm not sure about the other threads. Sorry, I don't have a link to those. They are there, if you can find them.

Yes, mine was $62, but it did not have fondant. I'm guessing the fondant really raises the price.

And yes, whoever is asking, I did get a custom 8" from GF! Here is my post with pics.

That's an awesome cake! You got a great deal!

We will be celebrating my daughter's birthday at lunch at CRT. I want a custom cake from the GF which I believe I will need to pick-up. My question is....We plan on spending the whole day at MK. Can I bring the cake to CRT in the morning and have them hold it till lunch? Will they also "hold" the leftovers so I can pick it up later in the day when we leave MK?

TIA

its my understanding since the GF bakery doesnt have a storefront you cannot pick up a cake from there. You would have to eat in one of their restaurants if you want a gf cake. sorry!

As the PP said, the GF bakery is the resorts own private bakery. You cannot order a cake to be picked up.

Also, I do not think restaurants will hold cakes for guests. This could be one of those situations where it depends on the CM you ask but I wouldn't count on it.

I know when we asked about bringing a cake into Boma they said they could not take it to into the kitchen or 'serve' it to us. But they would give us all the utencils required for cutting and serving...we just had to bring it in and have it on our table till dessert time. I know I've read where other CMs have told people on the phone that they will take the cake and bring it out at dessert, but I think that may have been for a WDW cake, and we were specifically asking about a cake from an outside source.

And I know none of the restaurants will take any 'leftovers' and store them for you, as it is against health code (at least in most state, and was what I was told once at WDW).

.

I have read some mention of a monorail cake or topper. Are there any pictures of this? My son LOVES the monorail.

Can some of you please give me an idea of which restaurant I should get our cake at or if I should pick it up at the Boardwalk Bakery. Here's where we're eating:

CRT
Chef Mickey
Le Cellier
Sci Fi
Akershus
Teppan Edo
Crystal Palace

If I cannot decide what to do I may just go w/ the mickey head for Chef Mickey's. Thanks!

Thanks ever so much, I hadn't wanted to search the whole thread if there wasn't anything!!:lmao: Anyway, after your message I did look through the original thread and found a beautiful christmas cake from 2006 - so hopefully we can get one like that!!:thumbsup2

ANyway, thanks again!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We took a non-Disney cookie cake to Sana'a and they took it back to the kitchen for us and brought it out at dessert time. He didn't serve it, but brought plates, forks, and a cake knife, which is the same thing they did when I ordered a Disney cake a few weeks later. I think it depends on who you get if they'll take it back to the kitchen for you.

Hiya Im back with cake questions again!

You guys gave me so much wonderful help last time

Last time we had the Toy Story themed cake from Pat at the GF. Its in the gallery.

This time we are staying in the YC.

Im looking for a chocolately cake this time,.

Can i have an 8 inch chocolate cake with chocolate filling. But with the marble chocolate ganache on it?

Can I get a message on it?

Can I get it delivered to Captains Grille at breakfast?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Ooops...I knew that about the GF bakery...so if I picked up it would have to be Boardwalk Bakery. The only reason I was thinking I might have to get it from GF/Boardwalk was due to it being a custom cake. I thought I read somewhere in this thread that CRT was limited in the type of cakes you could order...Anyone know if I am remembering correctly? Who knew a cake for a 4 yo would be so confusing :upsidedow
