Dog fencing for campsite

Since I have a beagle, and they are, to say the least, "vocal," we kennel him when we are not at the camper. Saves everybody a lot of trouble, and he has people around him all the time then, which he likes. I would hate to think what he would do to the inside of my trailer if he even heard a squirrel or another dog nearby. So I guess we go above and beyond too, Larry, since we suffer the additional expense to keep the neighbors happy.

Show me one other person that has gone to those lengths to try and be considerate of other campers ... not one that I know of.

Larry

oh my.

I'm sorry, but I take offense to this statement, as my family and I have also gone to great lengths to be considerate of other campers.

You, sir, are not the only one.

I keep 1000 packs of FREE earplugs on our hitch at all times. :rolleyes1

I win. :lmao:

I keep forgetting - eventually all threads are about beer (or kungaloosh or wine or Jack or something like that)

Cheers

My guess is that it won't be a dog that does it, but a drunken Disboarder. :rotfl2: We should start a pool as to who it will be! I have a couple of guesses already.

Actually when we leave our dog alone in the camper, he stays inside in his crate. I too leave the radio and air conditioning on. And I put him in the bedroom with the blinds closed, so it is nice and dark for him. He is crated trained, so it doesn't bother him at all for a few hours. We never leave him for longer than 4 to 5 hours at a time and then come back and take him on a nice long walk.

My hat is off to you and that is a very responsible and considerate camper. It's just most I have encountered are no where that considerate or caring.

Larry

As the OP for this thread, I have to say that I have been very surprised at the direction that this thread has taken. I have tried to stay out of the argument as much as possible, but I just have to say that this statement really annoys me! All I can say is that you must be camping around the wrong people! I believe that vast majority of dog owners on this board are very considerate campers, and go to just as many "lengths" as you say that you do to make sure that our pets do not disturb people. We were very worried the first time we left our dog in the RV (A/C and tv going, all shades pulled down so that he wouldn't see anything to bark at). As we walked away for the first time, he started barking. So we walked down the loop just a little ways, and then came back to see if he had stopped...which he had. We stayed away from the RV for a very short period of time that day and each day we extended it a little bit more, just so that he could see that we will always come back. He doesn't bark at all when he is left now. While there will always be campers who will leave their dog barking for hours while they enjoy the parks, I think you will find that the people on this board are much more responsible than that. Just my two cents!

Well I'm sorry but that is just not my experiences and probably unlike you I stay at FW for upwards of 45 days at a single site so see like 6 or 8 campers around us move in an out and a good 75% have ZERO CONSIDERATIONS of controlling their pets or being considerate of other campers. If you are only there for 3 or maybe 4 days you just won't see the longer term issues of incodiserate pet owners camping at FW.

Then share like I did and help others and not just make a blanket unfounded statement that you go to those great lengths, but are unwilling to share those.

Larry

That would be my vote as a village idiot.

Since I used it and I have no idea of maybe some of the responses to that term. To me a "village idiot" is from the medevial times of someone that gives simplistic replies that made the normal villiage people either laugh from it's humor or lack of unerstanding the context of what was happening and was simply humorous. It was not in the context of how I used it a personal attack, but a response to what I considered a lack of really knowing the actual facts.

Dang you are fast .... :scared1:

I'm outta here and have other things to do than sit on a thread or site and respond within minutes of a post. I generally only visit each site I subscribe to once a day to see what has been said and I'm finished with this one for today.

Well, I'm just glad that I've had better luck than you when I've gone camping. I still believe that the dog owners on this board are just as considerate as you are when it comes to taking their dogs to the Fort...so I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.

And for what it's worth, while I have never gone camping for 45 days in a row (maybe once I retire I will be able to), I generally stay for longer than 3 or 4 days. It just isn't economical to drive our RV over 400 miles to just stay for such a short period of time and turn around to go home. Plus, the longer we stay at the Fort, the happier we (and the dog) are!

Unlike you I stay at FW for upwards of 60 nights at a single site so I see like 8 or 10 campers around us move in and out and a good 99% have EVERY CONSIDERATION of controlling their pets and go above and beyond the duty of being considerate of other campers. That makes me there longer than 3 or maybe 4 days and I see the longer term issues of considerate pet owners camping at FW.

With that said I am pretty sure I would win the bet of who would be "dropping a duece" on a certain site. It won't be me because I am being ignored.:rolleyes1

We're been there 2-3 weeks at a time, 4 times in the last 5 years and I have to agree this has been our experience too. Sure there is always the occasional inconsiderate neighbor - but heck, that's true of the world in general. FW is just a much more condensed environment where we're all practically shoulder to shoulder and residing in little boxes that are far from soundproof.

Anyone that has dealt with inconsiderate dog owners has my utmost sympathy. It totally stinks, and of course it's the humans' fault, not the dog's. I would hope that most folks here would fall into the "considerate" category... and also would help try and nicely educate those they come across that don't quite "get it."

Of course some will never get it, and some just don't give a rat's @$$ about their neighbors. I'd be willing to bet those folks are like that whether they're at FW or at home. And sadly, they're the ones that ruin it for the rest of us.... and who also tend to stand out the most amongst all our experience with our camping neighbors. :headache:

Of course all this would be helped greatly if Disney would just enforce their own rules when it comes to pets at campsites. There's nothing more aggravating than hearing of those cases where people tried to be nice and talk with the owners of those yappy dogs and got nowhere with them <grrr>, and when they called the front desk the best Disney had to over was to move the folks that called! :sad2:

Now..... did someone say beer?! :dance3:

It seems to me that most of the issue with dog owners centers around one poster apparently going around looking for problems where they may not exist. He then passively/aggressively insults everyone and announces his exit from the thread. Pass the beer.
