(Wizard 101) Quest Tips & Help Thread!

I received an e-mail response from them today, and they told me that they "couldn't turn back time" to offer me the $60 rate. I explained to them again how I looked at my account, and it looked like the total due was $60, which lead me to believe that I would be renewed at the promotional rate.

They did say that they credited my account with 10,000 crowns to make up for the difference between the promotional price and the regular rate. I told that was an unacceptable solution, as I have never purchased crowns in the past, and have no interest in using them now.

I again requested that they refund me $19.95, and if they will not do that, then I would like to cancel my subscription and receive a full refund of $79.95. I also told them that if they do not do one of these things, I will file a claim with my credit card company, and not pay the fee.

I also told them I questioned their ethics, and felt that they were misleading. I told them it was a bait and switch, and I told them I wondered how much extra money that Kings Isle would rake in on subscribers who didn't notice they were charged higher than the promo price that is advertised on the site, and showed up as your total when you looked at your account.

I also told them that I intend to file a report with the better business bureau if they do not solve this issue to my satisfaction. And I told them they need to learn something about customer service, and they should send out courtesy e-mails to subscribers when their renewal rate comes up.

Oh, and what I think is my kicker, I told them that it wasn't so much about the extra $20, as I could afford to pay it if I thought it was worth that price to the game. I told them that it is a moral issue, and that I do not want to support a company that misleads thier subscribers.

It's like a gym membership. They just keep charging you and charging you ;)

I'll let you know when I hear back from them.

I realize it is slightly different because accounts are on auto-renew but isn't it like buying something in a store that is on sale? I expect the register to ring up the sale price without me having to tell them it is on sale.

You would think that, especially since they said that current subscribers could take advantage of the promo rate. It wasn't like they were calling it a promo rate for new subscribers.

So this is what I wrote and this is the response.

did check on your website at the end of August. The account status said I was set to renew on 9/2 at $60. This was your own page, your own site. Totally led me to believe that I was going to be charged $60. Not the case and I am more than upset. Because I am from Canada. So it is close to $100.00 now.

A good company would have sent an email explaining how we could unsubscribe to get the $60.00. Also reminding us of the upcoming renewal. This is a rip off and I am beyond disgusted.

I would have taken it for 60.00 even though my family was loosing interest. Knowing you were working on a lot more stuff.

So now how to I get my money back to quit. I hate being taken advantage of. I would like at least 11 months back. Thank you. I was away on vacation so did not see all the posts warning of the upcoming confusion. And you sent no email. That is so low. I have not been on since my renewal date. Money is tight and this is just not right.

There response seems to me they are back tracking now!!!

Hi there!

I'm sorry for the trouble! I'll get this passed up to the Billing Wizards right away! The Hall of Records keeps bureaucratic business hours (Monday-Friday 8am-5pm), but will take care of this matter directly! To expedite the resolution, if you've not done so already, please send your username (if you know it) or the last 4 digits of the credit card and billing name.

Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

Kind Regards,
Mr. Lincoln

I didn't get another response yet. I sent another email replying to them.
If I don't hear back again, I'll email from their own website again.

I don't like the way they have their reply system set up. They have a spot where you have to type in your reply for it to register in their automated system. When I look at my sent items, my e-mail program deleted the lower half of the message, so my response might not have gone through.

I also don't like the way they say in their message that if they don't hear from you within 24 hours, they will assume that you are satisfied with their response. 24 hours isn't very much time to give you.

The more I think about it, the more disappointed I am with the customer service provided by Kings Isle. I really question the morals of this company, and I'm seriously considering writing them back again and telling them to just give me a refund or I will file a complaint with my credit card company.

I have found that they are inconsistent in their customer support. I had several accounts and wanted them combined into one. The first time I requested this it was not a problem. The next time I wanted to add a stray wizard to my main account, they told me that they only do that if there is some problem with the account. I requested it again and this time they were more than happy to do it. Inconsistent or "Mr. Lincoln" gets very confused.

LOL. Probably depends on which "Mr. Lincoln" you get.

I want the "Mr. Lincoln" that is going to give me my money back.

I got an email letting me know my cc# had expired and they could not charge me so put me back to free trial.

To be honest I had no idea I was set up as recurring. I guess I got lucky since I had stopped playing some time ago.

Yes, they aren't very clear that it is recurring. I hadn't realized it either. Good thing your CC expired, or you would have had a nice $79.95 charge when you get your bill.

If anyone is available today, I'm looking for a lift to the Dragonspyre shopping area.

To those of you who have been having billing problems with KI, I am so sorry to hear. I have never bought a subscription, but my experience with their customer service has been good. It's hard to believe they would intentionally set up their payment site to mislead anyone, especially the loyal group who were their first subscribers. Perhaps with the game expansions and growth, it's becoming harder for the right hand to know what the left hand is doing. Really a shame.

LOL! I want that "Mr. Lincoln", too. If you find him, send him my way.
I'm thinking of posting to the Wizard 101 page on Facebook to see if anyone there could get back to me. :) (Watch them delete my post if I try.)

Briar, are you looking for a full refund at this point? Or still just a $19.95 refund? I can only hope that they aren't responding because they are trying to figure out how to make it up to us.

I heard back from KingsIsle. They have refunded my money since they are not able to issue partial credits back. They told me that they will reinstate my account at the $60 rate if I choose. They told me that they would hate to lose a valued customer over a misunderstanding.

At this point, I'm leaning towards not renewing. I really am not happy with the way that this situation was handled, and I just don't know if I really want to support this company at this point. They could really use a course in customer service. I'm sure I can find other things to do with my $60-80.

I heard back from them, and they gave me an offer for crowns, not a refund.
I keep replying to someone who is probably in tech support, not customer service. I think KI is on a learning curve of their first batch of renewal subscribers.

I'm just wondering how many of us were rocking the boat, and how many people were clueless about the promo rate eligibility?

I like the game enough to cut them a break for now. If they drop the ball again, I'll unsubscribe.

Ok I got a response back and they were confused cause they did bill me at the $60.00 rate. So I double checked my credit card and sure enough only $60.00 us was taken off on September 3rd. Wondering if the first few subscribers got caught in the confusion and the ones on September 2 on were ok because of all the complaints they were getting. So they made sure oly to take 60.00 off?

Heads up for those still playing.:) Today all of our characters can get free party hats for the Wizard101 birthday party. Just log into the website, go into redeem codes and put 'party' in. Get on the game and use a character to redeem that gift. Then log off log back into the website, and repeat for every other character that you want to have one. :)

They have also decorated the commons, the shopping district and Ravenwood in Wizard City in party decorations!

Thanks, I did not know we could have more than one!! :goodvibes

I am very disappointed by KI for the way they are treating their first subscribers. They really made it look like the account would renew at the special price. :sad2:

BTW, If you don't want to renew automatically next year, it is now possible to remove your CC info from your Wizard101 account. When the time to renew comes, they will have to send you an email and ask for you CC info.
