Military Ticket Offer - Questions and Latest Info

Thank you so much for this info...this is wonderful and will make the trip so much easier then trying to fit too many things into one day.

What is Oak Park? I have never heard of this?

Okay has anyone had this happen?? In May my DH received his free pass and bought 2, one for me and one for our youngest DS for our trip in May. Now our oldest DS is also military and bought us all passes for Christmas, for our upcoming trip, he is now not able to go due to military obligations...so can we still use our passes, and just have my DH show his ID again? We do have a copy of our DS's ID (and we have his complimentary pass) just incase there is any question but I dont want to get to the GS and be turned away! We called Disney and we had to talk to 2 different CM one wasnt sure at all and the other kept having me repeat the situation and then said well the military member doesnt have to be present to activate them because we realize some get deployed before their vacations come around.....that made me feel a little better but I was hoping for some feedback on here too! Thanks!!

Officially, you're supposed to activate all of the tickets you intend to use at the same time. And while the CM who said the military member doesn't have to be present to activate them is correct because, as noted, sometimes the military person is deployed, it doesn't mean that just anyone can activate them. His or her spouse (dependent ID card indicating spouse) can also activate them. If your son is married, his wife could go and activate these for you.

That said, I honestly believe that because you didn't get all five companion tickets when you first went, your DH could likely talk them into letting him activate three more so that his total activated companion tickets equals five.

I don't know if the purchased passes are "connected" somehow to your son specifically. If they are, you might be out of luck activating them. But your DH could probably buy three more at SOG and activate them. If that's the case, though, your son will be out what he paid for his passes, but that would be the case anyway if you cannot activate them as I don't think anyone has been able to get a refund on them. But I haven't read every post on this thread, so I could be wrong.

So, I would try having your DH activate them. Tell him to sweet-talk and be really nice and act sincere and appreciative. And remember to use them before they expire December 23. Good luck!

When we went in May we did activate all our tickets we only bought 3....well 2 since DH's was free. We activated them with DH's ID.

Now my son wanted to go, the one in the military, so he decided to have us go for Christmas time, he went and purchased all our tickets, 5 plus his, under his ID. Well he just found out he cant go due to military obligations, so we called our base and were able to pick up the tickets with a copy of his ID. He has no dependants since he is not married nor does he have any kids....so what we were wondering is will they accept the copy of his ID that we will have to activate the passes.....we are going in a few weeks so we are fine with the cut off date.

No. A copy of an ID is not valid.

The requirements are very specific. To activate the tickets an ID card that shows the bearer is an active or retired member of the armed forces or that the person is specifically a spouse or unremarried widow of an active or retired service member. This will either be an actual military ID or a DD1173 indicating SP or URMW in the Relationship field.

From what I can understand you do hold a Spouse Form 1173, and that you and your husband had earlier in the year activated a total of three tickets, the Complimentary and two Companion tickets. In this situation you will still be able to activate three Companion tickets under your husband's name, but that is the maximum you will be allowed.

so then I really only have to worry about 2 that remain....I just called Disney GS and the guy I spoke with said that Disney has an agreement with the military that if the member can not go due to military duties then the military will buy back the tickets! Our base says no but Disney says they have too, must be because this is a Disney special and not something the military themselves are doing?! UGH what a mess!

Just wanted to share that I was able to go back this week and use the remaining days on our military salute tickets from May. No problems at all :cool1:

using remaining days isnt the problem.....its activating new cards when the military member who purchased the tickets cant be there now. We called Disney, after I posted on here and a GREAT CM helped us out and we are all set with our issue!!

Thank you all for the info!! :cool1: :thumbsup2 :yay:

Cheshire Figment answered the question very well. :)

I hope that you are able to sell the tickets back. If they are "attached" to your son, you can sell all five back as your DH should be able to purchase the remaining three that he would be entitled to in order to equal the max of five. If they're not "attached" to your son, your DH can activate three of them and then you can sell back the other two if that's possible.

For those reading this thread who have not purchased tickets: I recommend just waiting until you're at Disney World and getting them at SOG. That way, you know who all will be present and if it turns out someone can't go, you won't have to deal with a ticket that you might need to sell back or have it go unused.

We called this afternoon and spoke to a WONDERFUL CM who helped us out tremendously and we will be able to use all 5 of the tickets! Our base REFUSED to take them back even though Disney said they had to, something about an agreement between Disney and the military, but it all worked out in the end for us so we are all set.....must be all that Pixie Dust sent our way.....:cheer2:

Belle, I don't think the PP was responding to your situation, just sharing an unrelated tidbit of info. :goodvibes

Good to know though, we went in May as well, and will be back in Florida for a few days in December. It'll be nice to use our extra day while we're there! :thumbsup2

We just got this idea the other day--- we used DH's free ticket and 3 of the 5 discounted tickets in April. If I'm reading the posts right (granted, I didn't read the entire thread) but am I correct that we could go and still use the 2 remaining tickets that were "allocated?" We recently found that DH deploys in March, but by the time he gets back the kids will be 3, so it might be fun to take another "cheap" Disney trip before he goes!

The official info states that the purchases and activation of tickets is a "one time" deal. While some people have been able to go back and purchase and activate additional tickets when they didn't originally get all five that they could have, there's no guarantee that this is going to be the case for everyone. You could try it and if you can get them, great! But just be prepared that you might not.

I came here to search for an answer and can't find search anymore. But I read back just a couple posts and found some related questions to my situation, I think.

My stepfather has already purchased the five companion tickets from his local base. My mom was just released from the hospital last Monday after spending 15 days there for flu and then kidney failure. We were hoping that she would still be able to go but she's just not getting her strength back and at this point has decided not to go.

So since my stepfather won't be there to validate, we can't use the tickets. Has anyone had any luck getting a refund for the $500 for the five tickets? He is actually going out to the base on Saturday to check.

Oh, boy, that's a tough one. Maybe if he took everything back to the base, with documentation from the doctor and hospital, maybe they'd refund him the money. It's so close to the end of the year, but could you plan a trip in a month or so? My guess is that MWR can't really refund you the money unless THEY can get the money back from Disney; otherwise they're out the $500. Can't hurt to ask, though.

Our trip begins on 11/14 at Bay Lake. We definitely can't change it to later. and I'm not sure Mom is going to be able at any point to go before the end of the year. As it is now, we are staying 2 adults, 2 children in a 2 bedroom. I can't even change that due to no other availability.

It seems to me that they should be able to refund as these tickets can't even be re-sold or can't be used unless he's there. At least with unused park passes/vouchers, you could sell those or use them at any point. I wish he wouldn't have bought them so soon, but of course, we never expected this to happen and I was afraid the base wouldn't be able to get them in if we waited until the last minute. We'll keep our fingers crossed until Saturday.

when we called and spoke to a Disney CM the gentleman told my DH that Disney has an agreement with the military that if the military member can not make it then the base WILL buy back all tickets....now our base said absolutely not (our situation isnt like yours though) so when we told Disney what our base said he said they have no choice....that this isnt something the military is offering its a Disney thing! Now in your situation it isnt due to a military reason that you all cant go so Im not sure what they will do, in our situation it is our son who cant go(he bought us our tickets cuz my DH used his complimentary ticket and activated 2 out of the 5 he is allowed) but due to military obligations he cant come with us now, so we werent sure what we would could do if we would have to buy 2 more tickets or what but we spoke to a great CM who fixed our issue for us....so I would call Disney CS and tell them what the problem is and see what they say.....

The only problem with that is that the info you get from the CMs on the phone is notoriously wrong. Many of those CMs do not sell tickets nor even know all the rules. For example, there have been multiple reports of CMs telling guests over the phone that they can use 2 "days" of a multi-day ticket to enter 2 parks the same day without Park Hopper, which is completely false and impossible. While many of the phone CMs are mostly accurate, the only answer that really matters is the answer you get in person at Disney World, IMO. That's why a lot of the advice on this thread regarding the military tickets has been "wait until you get there." While there are a lot of reports of DIS-ers being able to activate tickets on different visits, the rules did initially indicate that all tickets had to be activated at once. If you get there and get a CM who says "no, all the tickets had to be activated all at once," it won't do you much good to say, "But DopeySleepyDoc on the DISboards got to." They'll pull the official rules and say, "These are the stated policies."

CVRAPCLARK: I would have your stepfather check with the ITT/MWR where he purchased the tickets. Plead his case, show a copy of the Disney reservation with future dates. The MWR/ITT office can't prove the tickets weren't used/activated because they look exactly the same before and after activation so they will be reluctant to refund the money. He may get a sympathetic person who will do it. Or, he could post a notice at the base bulletin board saying he has these tickets for sale if anyone is planning to go in the next month and recoup the money that way. I really don't see this as Disney's issue to deal with. The tickets clearly say on the back "NONREFUNDABLE" and "NONTRANSFERABLE." While I sincerely hope that the base will help him out and refund the money, I wouldn't expect it.

Best of luck to you. :goodvibes

The CM we spoke to was not just any CM this is a different number that you only get through CS...you have to call this number and use an extension....and then we were given a code to use when we are there to fix our situation so Im pretty sure the CM we spoke too knows what they are talking about...plus our base agreed with what they said as it is a Disney offer NOT a military offer, but that they were told it was up to each base to decide if they would refund $$, where as Disney claims no they do not have a choice!

I'm sorry if this has been covered before, but this thread is 130+ pages long, and I must admit, I haven't been reading faithfully. My question is a little complicated, but I hope someone will have an answer.

My wife and I were at DW in September. I got my free PH pass and we bought one for my wife. She got pneumonia while we were there and we were only able to use one day of our passes, so we have 4 days left. We are going back to DW in December to use the last four days of our passes.

Now comes my question. We have some friends that are going to meet us there and will be staying for about 4 or 5 days. Can I purchase tickets for four of them using my military disount? Someone thought that all the tickets needed to be purchased on the same day. I have not seen anywhere that all the tickets must bee purchased on the same day.

Does anyone know for sure what the procedure is?

Greg
