The Best World of Color Viewing Spots

As usual Hydroguy, your posts seem to be very beneficial to all of us! I've been printing and subscribing to your threads since we started planning our DLR trip about 2 months ago. THANK YOU!!! :cool1:

We're going the 3rd week in June, attending WOC on the last AP day before the summer blockout dates seem to really kick in. DH is going to call here in a couple weeks to make reservations for PD (and our little girl's character breakfast). I've heard the front rail and the steps in the PD are good areas, but I'm trying to figure out what's best for our 2 year old DD. DH can put her on his shoulders, if needed, but we always have tried to think about those around us. Children on shoulders (while we understand why it happens), almost always blocks someone's view. Do NOT put her on your shoulders or you might get a spit wad in the back of your head. ;)

I guess what I'm asking is where would be a good spot for someone who is of average height (he's 5' 10") to hold a small girl in the PD area? How early do we have to get there? (We ALWAYS go to the late Fantasmic at HS in WDW because we refuse to stand in line for 3 hours. So much more to do!)

Thank you! To Hydroguy AND to all the other helpful Disneyland posters. So many changes have been made since we went in 2001 and I went back in the 80s. I can't wait to start the tradition up with my little DD.
I think your DD2 would be fine if you could get to the rail in the PD area. The risk of being on the steps is that there is always the chance a tall person or someone with a child on their shoulders moves in front of you and ruins your view. That will not happen at the rail in PD because you have a roughly four foot advantage over the few people below. If it was me I would plan to get to the rail in PD, take a seat at the rail while you wait, then during the show let your DD2 stand on the rail while you hold her from behind.

WOC is evolving as more people see it and the demand has definitely gone down somewhat since 2010. But what I recommend is you plan the AG/WCT dinner at least 3 hours before the show - if you are seeing the first show - which I would recommend for anyone with children. That leaves 90 minutes for dinner then 90 minutes waiting for WOC. They will let you into the PD area 60-75 minutes before the show. But you want to be near the queueing area 90 minutes before the show even though they will not really let you queue. If you can finish dinner in 60-75 minutes then use that extra time to queue even earlier. When they let people into the PD area walk fast to the front rail.

Does anyone have any thoughts about good viewing spots for someone in a wheelchair? I know there are handicappee areas in each zone, but is one zone better than the others? Will there be people standing in front of the wheelchairs blocking their view?

For the HA areas it's much different than for general vieing. The Blue has the best viewing in the second 3rd tier. It has been moved to the area marked Best in the link below. Other than the two lower blue areas I would shoot for the lower Yellow or Preffered Dining. Upper Yellow is ok, but the reds are at a large angle and the worst option.

Make sure everyone on the group including the person in the chair has a FP for the show, and it will help if the group had a GAC to show when entering. The wheeled visitor must enter from the far red side to yellow and red and can come across, so they can meet members of the group that come right down the stairs. Blue can enter in the blue area down a long ramp. I'm not sure what side the PD group come in from.

I have seen WOC twice from the front rail of the preferred dining section. I am hesitant to try another spot for fear that it wouldn't be as good. We will probably go that route this summer again.

how early did you get there to get the front of the rail? were you in the "splash zone"?

The front of PD is not really considered wet zone but there is always a chance based on wind direction of course.

we're gonna take your advice, hydroguy, and go the AG/PD route and try to get to the rail early on. my question is about strollers. i saw a picture recently of the viewing area and i saw single stollers here and there. we'll have our tandem double stroller with us. i'd like to bring it into the PD view area if possible. thoughts?

I don't see why a tandem stroller wouldn't be allowed. Just know that there is a rush when entering Paradise Park, and it will be tight. Also some stairs to go down.

I would say you need to work as a team. The stroller will slow you down from getting to the rail of course. How big is your group? Can you send DH down ahead maybe with older kids to get your spot while you follow behind with stroller?

After reading this thread, and others I have a question. How often does the "child on shoulders" thing happen when waiting for WoC? I am 5'5" tall, and when people do this, it makes me NUTS. I would avoid standing near them, if I could, but they tend to make the kid on shoulder move at the last possible second. Usually too late for me to relocate in a crowd.

Now I am dreading dealing with this situation. How can people think it is ok to do this in a crowd, unless they are in the last row or have a wall behind them? I know they want their kid to see, but they absolutely will completely block other people at the same time.

I haven't been to WoC yet, but based on the photos I've seen and what people say, you can assume that plenty of people will put children on their shoulders - especially people down in the lower sections who aren't at the rail.

That's why everyone in the threads emphasizes the point that you need to be on the rail or you are probably going to get somewhat blocked.

I don't get the shoulders thing either. I hold up my kids, but up so they are at my height, not a foot or two above my head. I don't get bothered by a lot of the behaviors that seem to bother others on these boards, but the shoulders thing annoys me a lot.

we're doing this with my sis' family, so we can send them ahead to save us a spot! :thumbsup2

what time would you recommend for dining reservations at AG? 5pm? 5:30pm?

Once I was at the pre-show for the old Lion King show at MK at WDW. Just a pre-show, but it was a thing where you had to stand, and the room was not sloped down like some pre-show rooms. Once it started, kids went up on shoulders all around me, it was like dominoes, because (I guess) the first few blocked the ones behind them, and so on. I was surrounded by 2 headed giants. I literally could only hear the pre-show, it was funny and semi-traumatic at the same time. We were annoyed by sort of laughing (just a pre-show, but it was my first time seeing this attraction).

I will just roll with it and see what happens...... can't wait, have the dinner package at Ariels 3 weeks from today!

where is the reserved viewing area you get with the world of color picnic lunches?

Skiingfast is correct......

Disney has caused a lot of confusion in not being consistant in the use of the terms: Preferred vs. Reserved, Area vs. Location.
Vewing Location and Area are the exact same section. It doesn't matter if it is Blue or Yellow.

The only pass that gives you a unique viewing area is Preferred Dining ($40).

ALL World of Color Fastpasses gives you admission to a "Reserved" Section.

Picnic Fastpass ($16) / WCT Lunch Fastpass ($30) / Fastpass from GRR Fastpass Machine (FREE). are all exactly the same in function.

thanks again, hydroguy! we got 2 ressies for 2 parties of 4 at 5:30pm (for the 9pm WOC show). if we did a party of 8, the earliest time would have been 6:30pm. it doesn't matter that we're not seated with my sister and her family. at least we'll get to enjoy WOC together! can't wait! :cool1:

It was our first time seeing WOC, we did PD for 9 PM show on 4/7. We didn't rush to the area, about 15 minutes before showtime. We were basically where Disneyland_1951's suggests to stand (plus we got to sit on the stairs for waiting time). All of the adults had great views, but my DD (3 1/2) had to be held up to see. Luckily we had 5 adults in our group and we switched off holding her throughout the show. I'm against the kid on shoulders thing, out of respect for my neighbors, but man is it easier! Funny enough when we were walking back during the 2nd show it looked like we would've seen more (all of the stuff that was at a lower level) on the bridge in the Blue section, plus we wouldn't have had to hold my DD up the whole time.

Any thoughts on Blue bridge view vs. PD section towards the back? What do you think we should try next time? Would we be able to show up 15 mins before showtime to get the Blue bridge view? Is it best to stick to PD and just get there earlier for rail viewing?

We ate at Ariel's Grotto to enjoy a nice sit down dinner, in a kid friendly atmosphere, and I decided that getting the FP for WOC was a bonus added on to our dinner. So I was definitely not disappointed with where we saw the show from or what we paid to be in that section.

Great thread!! :cheer2:
