Fired CP's

I'm hearing everything you're saying...but you're not really listening to me...I just left my College Program (I came back in January)...when I first got to Disney...i had my trainers and new managers tell me the difference between a call in sick and a call in personal...they told us that if you call in sick...you CANT use your ID for any reason..because you're "sick"....but if you call in PERSONAL...that's your personal day off....so you're free to do whatever you please...with no circumstances..(except for the fact that you do get a point)...but sometimes..you need a day off...including with my role...i would usually get scheduled 6 days....so it would have been nice to use some personal days off to myself...free from working...but i didnt because if i did..i would have gotten a point....on my record card to this day..i only have 3 points...2 of those points i had to call in sick because i had the flu..and the other point was because i called in personal so i can spend time with my family in the Disney parks....and now I'm seasonal with the company....maybe when you were working...things were different...but managers and my trainers told me this information last May...and i highly doubt that things have changed so quickly...including since most CM's do it all the time...

And if a CP wanted to go shopping or have fun in the parks...thats what a PERSONAL day is for...its for a time that the CM can have a PERSONAL day to themselves...without the hassle of work

I think it might be your location. I know mine didn't have a difference.

And that poster actually still works with the company, in a higher position (a lot higher) than a CP.

Just an observation--but I had no idea Disney was this strict with cast members. It sounds almost draconian, but I suppose they have learned that they have to be this strict, especially for CPs.

Just something to think about...this isn't strict at all. I worked at a Honda ATV Manufacturing plant and they had a no fault attendance policy. Sounds good but it doesn't mean what you may hear. That means you get points no matter what the circumstances are...I don't me half a point either. You miss on a Monday or Friday 3 points...T-Th 2 points. Late on any day and it's 1 point. You get 8 points you're gone...Which means if you miss 2 Mondays or Fridays and one other day within a year you can kiss you job good bye.

I'm not exaggerating at all. They don't care if you're sick or whatever hell you get a point if you come to work and the nurse sends you home...

I have called in both "sick" and "personal" on my previous CPs. They are noted differently on the record card, so they're not all recorded as sick. I once requested a day off 6 months in advance as I had gotten a coveted Cinderella's Royal Table reservation for the final week of my program, and it was pending for 5.5 months, and eventually denied. I talked with my managers and they encouraged me to call in personal and go to the park anyways. I called in after I had entered the turnstiles but I'm not sure if that made a difference. Anyways, I did not get in trouble at all and it was recorded as "call in personal" on my card.

I actually don't think this is very strict at all. It seems pretty reasonable to me! At my old job we didn't have a real system like this, and our managers were very care-free. People called in all the time and constantly just left in the middle of the day. It was chaos, and eventually the store was closed for not having enough business.

I mean, people would call in so much and the managers didn't care. But then if they called in on a day where they were really really needed, the managers ended up blowing up at them and acting very unprofessional.

I trust that Disney knows what they're doing and has perfected how to be reasonable with this point system.

I have another question, do you get called in often? Like can the managers ever call you up and ask you to come into work?

For us, it was rare. No one ever got overtime (except once in some freak thing that happened). The only thing that happened a few times was being called in early. I would be asked the night before or the afternoon of to come in earlier, as long as the shift didn't give me overtime or allow me to work more than 8 hours. For example, there were many days when a coworker was sick and I was the only option for a shift, so they would call around 1:00 asking me to work 3:00-11:00 instead of 4:00-10:30.

Depending on where you work, you can get called in a lot or not at all. I worked in resorts, and would get called on my day off every so often (especially if I managed to get a magical Sunday, which is the busiest day in resort land, off). I had many character performer friends who were called to work very often. It's all dependent on height ranges and who calls out. Resorts can have a longer line, but if there's no one to help out Goofy in Spectro, then you have a much bigger issue, hence more needing to call people to fill that spot.

Yes...but that would depend on your work location...My role is a Character Performer...and on my off days..i have different parks calling me in to work for them that day....and 99% of the time..whenever I'm working at a specific park..they always ask me to extend..so i can work longer...I don't know how it is with other roles...but for mine...it was very often that they called me

I was always trying to figure that out..and its so lame that they have only Pooh and Tigger at UK...when Pooh and Tigger are also together at Pooh's Playground at MK!!!

that is not me that is my friend who sadly past away this past weekend after a battle with cancer, she was awasome and got to do star wars weekend as Aura Sing but also did Snow queen, Melificent and Lady T. But I've known her for years as one of my tiggers.

Totally OT but i heard my cousin talking about her dying. I felt so bad. My condolences:guilty:

I only got called in once, and it was actually just asking me to report an hour sooner. I was usually asked prior if I wanted to come in on an off day, and sometimes I said yes, others no (depended on my plans and the shift- I always took the 9am-1pm shifts at the resorts when asked). You can ask any of my managers who was their most reliable CP during Spring Adv. 09 at my location and they would say me (not bragging, I'm serious) since I was always willing to come in early, on off days, and stay late. Really helps you get on your manager's good side.:thumbsup2

Who was she??? I heard about someone having cancer before I left the program...I'm pretty sure that I knew her...

Hello, I'm in the college program at Disneyland and I wanted to know what our points are. I know everyone is saying that you get 1 point when you call-in and .5 points when you're less than 2 hours late but I got 3 points for calling in one day and 1.5 points for being 15 minutes late. Doesn't seem right to me.

I agree. I think it's pretty obvious Disney knows what they're doing. I think it's sort of heinous but it obviously works well and keeps people out of trouble.

How often do the managers consider special circumstances? for instance, bead weather?
