Cat 5E Aft Room Question

Hello - question for all of you seasoned cruisers:

We really wanted to try to book one of the larger wrap-around balcony 5E aft rooms (Dream or Fantasy), but i can't seem to locate any cruises with availability. Seems lots of rooms free on deck 10 but i believe it might be due to the noise, cleaning on deck 11 above.

Anyways i was just wondering if these rooms go quickly as soon as dates open up - it would make sense since there are very few of them. Or are they all reserved for handicap access then released later to the general public? Some of the ship maps i have used only show some of these reserved for HC.

Also, if anyone has sailed in these 5E aft rooms just wondering about motion - not vibration from docking but is the general rocking motion exaggerated by the location?

Thanks in advance for any replies. :)

I believe the Cat 6A on the Wonder is a similar Aft type room with the larger verandahs...

I wanted to book a 7A or 6A on the Wonder for our next cruise, but it wasn't showing up as available. I realized we had 4 in our party this time, where as we had only 3 last time we cruised.

the 7A is only for 3 people, but oddly, even though the 6A says it can fit 4 people, it wouldn't show up as available when I was booking for 4 people. If I changed my search parameters for 3 people, it showed up as available to book (on the same cruise I was trying to book for 4 people!).

Interesting you bring up Deck 10. That's where we're staying on the Dream. I was looking for an aft room, but we got midship (looks a little closer to the front), which I'm hoping is not a problem because I get very motion sick.

Is Deck 10 supposed to be noisy? First time cruiser here! Am I making a rookie mistake?

editing: Never mind my post! We are on deck 9.

thats what happens when you are posting at 1:30 am :)

Stayed on deck 9 twice and we loved it each time. Hope you have a fun cruise!

As for deck 10 im no expert but some reviews say that there can be noise from the above deck 11 - cleaning, moving chairs, etc but probably not bad enough to not sail on it.

Two years ago we were on Deck 10 below Cabanas. We did hear chairs at times, but we are all heavy sleepers and it never disturbed us. We liked our location so much booked the same room for this upcoming cruise! Set sail on Saturday. The motion from the boat was not noticeable except when docking.

Hi - what room did you have? Were the verandah's a good size on deck 10 aft as well? I would think having an aft room would have some great views.

We don't mind some motion - its a ship after all :)

We have stayed in Dream/Fantasy cat 5E room 9174 and LOVED it. We will request this room every time we're on the larger ship! We really didn't notice any excess noise, and the only time we really noticed any vibration was when we were pulling into port, and maybe a couple of times when at sea (maybe when we were in strong current?) but it didn't bother us. We've also been in Fantasy cat 5E cabin 6690 and loved it ALMOST as well.....When the ship was in port, the flag was right in front of our verandah, which was kind of frustrating and spoiled the view when pulling out of port, as they don't take it down nearly as prompltly as they hoist it when arriving in port!

Note that there were not "wrap around" verandas, but were very nice sized - lounge chair + 2 chairs & a table on deck for 9174 & 2 chairs and a table on the veranda for 6690 - there was certainly room for a lounger on 6690, but there wasn't one there.

:thumbsup2

I do think they go fast as there are people who have discovered them and love them- and there are not that many of them. I was on the phone at 8 am on Gold day for the recent release of the holiday 2015 cruises- and even by the time I got through to a cast member, the 1st five of my 5E aft choices were gone- but I did get 9176 and am very excited about it. We have always been midship- but I am looking forward to the big verandah with the wake in my view....

You will LOVE it, I'm sure! If I could figure out how to post a picture, I would show you how amazing it is so stand there and watch the mezmerizing wake!

8188 (dead center) twice, booked for 3rd time next may

None of us noticed any extra or excessive motion in the aft (DW can suffer from motion sickness too). We did feel the constant vibration (not excessive to be bothersome, but it was recognizable) the first couple days on the fantasy eastern - might have been because we were booking south to get to our first port.

8188 is like Fight Club. You don't talk about Fight Club ;)

Don't worry Silver - it will be our (ALL OURS) secret ;) I mean, nobody really reads these threads, do they??

Seriously - i appreciate all the feedback - its great to hear first hand of others experiences before just taking an uneducated guess on a room. It's funny how much you learn as you go but even understanding that in the end it will still be a great time, its all what you make of it... the good experiences and the ones that come up short, all have to be taken in context of a great vacation.

I was just awarded cabin 7688 for my 5E GTY booking and looking at the reviews online I think I got very very lucky! Am even more excited (didn't know that was possible).

We had 10158 on the Dream. It was a beautiful room with a large wrap around balcony. There are 4 chairs out there. 2 chairs and 2 loungers actually. I loved sitting out in the sun on my own private balcony with a Mickey bar. The cabin seemed pretty roomy. We didn't hear a peep from Cabanas. The first night I was woken by a tinkling sound and then I realized I was hearing the hangers in the closet jingling together so I'm not the heaviest sleeper. That's one tip. If they're going fast the whole ship can be a little bumpy. If your not using the hangers take them down.

We have 9674 booked for our upcoming Dream cruise (yay - only 14 days to go!). This will be our first time in one of the 5e's - I can't wait.

We were 10632. The verandah was great!
