She said it wouldn't be boring!-WONDER WB Caribbean cruise - Bonus Posts Wrap up

Alison the concert looks huge and what a production to put on. WOW.

And it must be someone that does not wear a dress to come up with you all having to wear them for 10 hours. That is a tad too much to ask. I am glad you found something to wear that long and that looks great one you!

Your sub sandwiches looks awesome, what a find, to have someone slice the meat per order so it remains juicy! Yummy!

I love that you guys have peppers in the morning! Too cool. Or hot! Indeed slices of meat yummy....

Hi!

The venue for your concert was beautiful. I admire anyone that can perform on a stage like that. I can talk in front of a crowd but not perform. I'm glad Fran felt better.

The room looks very spacious! And the lobby is very impressive.

Oh no poor Fran! Thank goodness she felt better in time the next day for rehearsals and the performance.

The venue is really big, wow! Is that the biggest venue you've played at before?

Wow, those concerts are a lot of work! Glad Fran was starting to feel a little better. I like the new dress!

Jill in CO

It was really only about 10 ½ hours of rehearsal time. They count on everyone having looked at and learned their music prior to arrival. Plus it’s usually the most accomplished musicians from the member bands who show up to play. In comparison, for a concert back home we rehearse weekly for two hours sometimes for 3-4 months to get ready. It’s just for these big events everything is jam packed into one weekend. Makes for great pressure! :lmao:

How sad Fran was feeling so bad in this part of the trip. At least she was able to play in the concert. That was certainly a lot of hard work. From your smiles it looks like you had fun though.

Those giant sub sandwiches looked scrumptious! popcorn:: popcorn::

What I forgot to put in there was that she even auditioned for one of the solos (clarinets had like seven different solos), she got one. They didn’t hold auditions for saxophone solos, there was only one and it was measly anyways. After the stress that I went through in August over my solo, I didn’t want to audition for one this time, and there really weren’t any.

The sandwiches were good, but way too huge. We got two and really only needed one. Although during the middle of the night after the concert, Fran did polish off half of one since she went to bed without dinner.

Concerts are hard work and it was nice to read from your eyes during the concerts and rehearsals.

Thanks Bret, it was a lot of fun!

So glad Fran felt better and could play- WOW you performed in a huge venue!

It was the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. It was pretty impressive, the sort of place where large touring musicals like Kinky Boots and the Lion King were going to playing later that year!

Wow that's a large group and venue, very impressive. Your dress looks lovely.

We are normally over 200 participants for these events. It’s hard to find a stage large enough for such a group. When our band hosted one back in 2005 we had to limit it to 160 on stage. Thanks, I might wear that dress to Remy on my next cruise.

That's one heck of a concert! It looks amazing. Glad Fran made it through to play.

Breakfast looks like it was tasty! I like the look of that omelette.
In fact, all the food looks fantastic.
You look lovely in that dress. I bet it was comfortable to wear as well.

We’re getting the DVD of the performance, I’ll have to see if any of it gets posted online. I’ll post a link if it does. All the breakfasts that week were good, there were lots of choices.

It was a very comfy dress and it was like 75% off so I got it for less than $20! :rotfl2: I actually sort of ruined the bottom half and the tailor fixed it up for me. It cost more for the tailor to fix it than the actual dress! Now I have a knee length dress instead of floor length.

Lovely photo of the lobby. I am sorry poor Fran was so ill. My infusion makes me feel sick and itchy for 2 days after. People look at me like I have fleas :-) They give us steroids and puriton now before the infusion to prevent reaction. I was delighted when towards the end of the post when Fran perked up.

The itching was a sign that her Billyrubin levels had increased five fold. That’s one of the red flags for that medicine. Normal is around 40 and hers was over 200. Once it came back to normal the doctor gave her a pill to take, but when she got sick over Christmas, she had to stop taking the pill.

She is back on it temporarily while they wait for the study of the new medication to open up. The sad part is that she will have to go off the meds again for the study. I think she has to get a TB test and can’t start the new meds again until a month after the TB test. The reason it is sad is that it is falling all right within the period of our next vacation, my birthday bash and the B2B cruise. I really don’t want her hurting and cranky for all those things!

I really like your new frock. Suits you very well. I hope it was comfy for you for 10 hours. Oh my that contortionist! I bet that was a distraction whilst you played those difficult scores. Looks like a fabulous concert and great photos of you both. Oh I adore skirt steak but I haven't seen it on a menu for some time.

Thanks! I hope that the dress in it’s new form still looks OK on me. The tailor had to take off all the fabric below the knees. The music was easy so it was OK for me to watch what was going on out in front of the stage. There were only two or three pieces that were truly difficult to play and we had not distractions on those.

Who would want jalapeños on their omelette in the morning! I would be hospitalised at any time if I ate these but even for regular folk breakfast seriously? Mind you I saw when we stayed at The Ritz in London at Christmas time the Japanese breakfast menu was rice and sushi. I thought oh no but of course what did I expect them to eat they have a different diet of course! It was educational for me. Made me think. Not going to want lucky charms and waffles are they like me. I bet they see that and think what! Who would eat that! Strange western people...

I look forward to your next post.

I can’t eat jalapeños, but I have wimpy taste buds. The first time I saw a Japanese buffet was in Auckland New Zealand. I actually ate from it one day (in addition to the Western choices). Rice and miso soup were pretty good in the morning!

The concert looked so fun! Holy contortionist :faint: How often do you all get together for a show? Hope Fran is better now!

I am all caught up again.

OMG, chocolate flavoured tequila is my idea of heaven.

I love all the photos of the Halloween costumes. Fran's costume is precious.

It is nice to know that Hristo is back at Palo. During our back to back in 2013, he was in the main dining rooms and he was on vacation during our Panama Canal cruise last year. We have had him in the past and he is great.

I love the idea of having a strawberry soup for each course, but I would need some room for some Chicken Parmigiana, too.

That chocolate tasting looks lovely. I have still have to get the chance to do this. You must have a lot stamina doing two tastings in one day. I can't believe how expensive the Patron XO Cafe is in "the wild". I love the stuff and always stock up at duty free and I have never paid more than $30.

Love the photo with my favourite alien.

I hope that you both feel better soon and that you manage to finish moving out of the old place soon.

The river cruise sounds amazing.

The hotel in Fort Lauderdale looks really nice. Shame that the weather was not too nice though.

I am sorry that Fran suddenly felt so ill.

The conference sounded really intense with all the rehearsals and other meetings.

Corinna

Wow, that looks exhausting leading up to the concert and then like a truly amazing event. Quite the production!

Very glad you found a more comfortable option and that Fran started to feel a bit better.

That shouldn't be too hard of a goal to meet. As long as you don't procrastinate for 2 1/2 months. :lmao:

Well I haven’t been bringing back carloads of stuff, but we have been going over there and bringing back stuff every 2-3 days. But there is still a LOT of stuff there. I’m deciding we really don’t need the other 10-15 bedsheets, especially since there are no Disney characters on them! :rotfl: I took the 8-10 sheets with Disney characters yesterday! Plus we already had at least 3-4 over here already

That's the kind of nickname you can never live down.

I think in the next TR, that’s how I’ll refer to him! I need to include his story in the introduction!

Were the wires made of gold instead of copper?

I think it was one of those “we’re trying to teach you a lesson” charges.

It is bad enough that they're kicking you off the ship, but they've just got to rub it in with the dish names. :headache:

That never even occurred to me! :lmao:

Honesty is always a good policy! :thumbsup2

I like to think that is true! Except when setting departure times for spouses and parents!

 :faint: :crazy2: I didn't even know that was possible! I thought in the US government, there was no such thing as a grey area. If you owed 10 cents, they'd spend $10,000 to collect it.

You might want to delete that part of the TR before they find it. :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

:rotfl2:

That looks like it would be an awesome trip! I'm sure you guys will have a great time!

It’s been on our bucket list for many years. I’m glad we finally pulled the trigger!

Seems like things always work out that way. :headache:

::yes::

Oh wow... sorry to hear that. She must have been miserable.

After she recovered from the nausea and symptoms that felt like food poisoning, she was better, but for the whole next week she kept having me scratch her back and shoulders with a hairbrush. The itching feeling was driving her crazy. So yeah, I guess that’s pretty miserable.

Free drinks. Can't go wrong there. :thumbsup2

I know, it was crazy! Many of these people I’ve known for years, but even the gal sitting next to me who I had just met that day bought me a drink. I certainly wasn’t complaining! Justin and I started off the night with a shot of Tequila! :lmao:

::yes:: Anytime I have to eat in a hotel ballroom with a bunch of other people, I usually try to find out where the nearest fast food place is. :lmao:

This wasn’t even that organized. They were having pizza delivered backstage to the theater. Luckily they ended up having plenty of pizza delivered, but it took about half an hour to 45 minutes in line to get to the pizza. We chomped on the sandwiches while waiting in case they ran out, but the pizza guys kept delivering. So we had hoagies and pizza for dinner that night. I would say dinner of champions!

Pyrotechnics make everything better. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2

Well, it was fine to be talking future trips, but when Jill and I start chatting about restaurants in Denver I thought that was a little too OT and it was time to stop taking up space in the thread.

No worries, the real Disney part of the TR has passed. I’m just going to have a few more updates for this trip, and then tomorrow we’re in single digits for our midweek getaway to DLR. I’ll probably post about that before I get to starting my PTR/TR for the next big WDW/Cruise trip.

That band concert looks great! I would love to do something like that. Back when I was young I played guitar, but outside of a few recital performances I never performed. I was just too shy, even though I think I was pretty good at one point. I think now I would have the courage to perform, but playing guitar is one the things that has fallen into the black-hole that is real-life and I haven't played in 20 years. At times I regret it, but on the other hand don't see where I would fit it in.

Do you ever post your performances on-line? Would like to hear a few pieces.

We always tell people with the same excuse, that it’s just like riding a bike. It comes back to you really quickly once you start up again.

This is a clip from the large group’s performance last summer. This is the piece that I had the solo in (which freaked me out because I could never get it quite right in rehearsal). In the end I think it came out OK. If you listen, it’s the saxophone a few measures after the heavy funk groove gets started.

See Rock City from Gay Games 9 Concert

This is a link to videos from our last concert. If you listen to the Divine Comedy – Purgatorio, you’ll hear me playing a soprano sax solo where I represent a little evil demon spirit.

Wow, you snuck in a couple of big updates on me. I'm sorry Fran was struggling so much. I'm sure you probably felt helpless as far as what you could do for her.

I’m trying to get through the end of the trip a little quicker since it’s not Disney related. I often feel helpless when it comes to Fran. She has so much pain due to the RA and there is nothing that I can do to fix it.

I love it when we get the chance to stay in Embassy Suites. They're one of the few places that feel big enough for my family and the breakfast is a nice perk. It just feels like we can never afford them.

Rarely do we get to stay there either, but they are so spacious. Even with just two of us, it’s nice to have a bedroom and a living room. That way I don’t worry about waking Fran up when she is napping.

That concert hall is huge! Looks like the show was quite the production. And anything that ends with pyrotechnics can't be all bad, right?

The only bigger venue I’ve played is the Hollywood Bowl. It’s really nice when you get to play in such impressive places!

Both DH and I eat Jalapenos in our omelets, they make a great added heat in the morning. We really do eat them along with any meal in this house, but again we both grew up in Texas.

Yikes! I can’t eat jalapenos at any time let alone breakfast! I grew up in Boston and the South SF Bay Area. Neither place is known for it’s tolerance to heat! :rotfl2:

Like I said, it was one of the biggest halls that I have played in.

And it must be someone that does not wear a dress to come up with you all having to wear them for 10 hours. That is a tad too much to ask. I am glad you found something to wear that long and that looks great one you!

Yeah, it was men who came up with that!

Your sub sandwiches looks awesome, what a find, to have someone slice the meat per order so it remains juicy! Yummy!

They were very good sandwiches, I’ll remember the place if we ever get back to Ft. Lauderdale.

The venue is really big, wow! Is that the biggest venue you've played at before?

It was a very nice hotel, and yes I am glad that Fran felt better enough to play. The biggest venue I’ve played was the Hollywood Bowl. CSUN held graduation there one year, and the band played for the graduates who walked into the ceremony. So that was the biggest place I’ve played, but it was a total fiasco and they never did that one again! :rotfl:

Wow, what a venue. :thumbsup2 One of these days, I'd love to see you ladies perform.

When you move back to California, you’ll have plenty of opportunities! :thumbsup2

In the end I think it came out OK. If you listen, it’s the saxophone a few measures after the heavy funk groove gets started.

I watched this one clip, and I have to tell you "great job". I did catch your sax solo near the 4:30 mark, and to my untrained ears it sounded really sharp - oops, not sharp in an off-key way, sharp as it sounds good! :cool2:

The whole band sounded great. That must be a lot of fun to do.

The concert looked so fun! Holy contortionist :faint: How often do you all get together for a show? Hope Fran is better now!

This group (the national organization) has an event once a year. It’s always different people. This year is Indianapolis and already the saxophone section is on waiting list only for the concert. However, it coincides with DCI this year and we will have pep bands welcoming the spectators to DCI, anyone can still perform in that.

I am all caught up again.

OMG, chocolate flavoured tequila is my idea of heaven.

I’m glad you’re back and all caught up. I can’t wait to have some of that Tequila!

I love all the photos of the Halloween costumes. Fran's costume is precious.

I loved her costume too. That picture of her is now her avatar on my cell phone!

It is nice to know that Hristo is back at Palo. During our back to back in 2013, he was in the main dining rooms and he was on vacation during our Panama Canal cruise last year. We have had him in the past and he is great.

That’s right, I remember you mentioning that. I hope to have him as a server on our Wonder B2B.

I love the idea of having a strawberry soup for each course, but I would need some room for some Chicken Parmigiana, too.

I only had a taste of the Strawberry Soup because of this reason.

That chocolate tasting looks lovely. I have still have to get the chance to do this. You must have a lot stamina doing two tastings in one day. I can't believe how expensive the Patron XO Cafe is in "the wild". I love the stuff and always stock up at duty free and I have never paid more than $30.

We have never bought any. 1) because Fran is not a fan of coffee flavor 2) because it is so expensive.

Love the photo with my favourite alien.

I hope that you both feel better soon and that you manage to finish moving out of the old place soon.

I was really glad to catch a photo with Stitch. We are working on it. There is just so much stuff to go through, but we are now making trips back 2-3 times per week and bringing stuff. I have actually just started throwing things away.

The river cruise sounds amazing.

The hotel in Fort Lauderdale looks really nice. Shame that the weather was not too nice though.

The river cruise should be really nice. It sounds quite elegant and very educational as well.

You would think that the weather in Florida would be nice in November, but it wasn’t so much.

I am sorry that Fran suddenly felt so ill.

The conference sounded really intense with all the rehearsals and other meetings.

Corinna

I know, she is just now finally starting to feel much better and come out of her funk. That particular conference was VERY jam packed. I just received the schedule for the next one (August in Indianapolis) and it will be much more relaxed. We should have at least 4-5 hours per day of free time. There are also many more performance opportunities, that we are not taking part in.

Wow, that looks exhausting leading up to the concert and then like a truly amazing event. Quite the production!

Very glad you found a more comfortable option and that Fran started to feel a bit better.

It was a lot of fun, but getting there was really a lot of work. Most people don’t have to attend the delegates meetings, so they all got to sleep in and take time off. A lot of the folks on the Board of Directors, sat the performance out, so they had free time. It was us who did both that were jam packed in there!

Yeah, it was a much more comfortable dress, I wish that I hadn’t ruined the bottom part by catching it in the wheels of the scooter, but the tailor fixed it up nice and I can still wear it with Knee hi’s. It’s not so short that I have to wear full nylons with it, so it is still a comfortable dress.

By far, my favorite line in this entire report. :goodvibes :teeth:

:thumbsup2 I’m looking forward to having a 3D close by too!

Thanks! I think only someone who was reading the music (ie myself and the conductor) would have really known whether or not it came off, but I guess in the end, it was OK.

It really is a lot of fun. These are all people that I’ve known on and off for a while or just met, so it’s a fun time of old and new friends. We never have the same group twice, and it’s always challenging in a good way to pull off something like this. The musical choices were very ambitious last summer, even more so than last November.

I think I recognise some of your more recent concert uploads. :thumbsup2

And very well you should!

A Hint of Disney

Our trip was finally starting to come to an end. With these conferences, one never knows when booking airfare months in advance exactly what the schedule for the conference will be. So we always plan on flying home on Monday. That meant that Sunday we had no obligations. There was a Drag Queen party from 2PM-6PM, but that really isn’t our cup of tea.

We had breakfast at the hotel and then decided on how we were going to spend our day.

As I mentioned earlier, we had considered going to the Everglades, but it was pouring rain outside. So our choice was pretty clear. However, the first thing we needed to do was get our Tequila home. There was no way that we were going to put bottles that large and expensive into our suitcases. We found a UPS store that was open Sundays near the hotel, and this was where our savings shriveled up. Shipping and packing costs for the bottles was pretty expensive. Oh well, live and learn.

Then we were on our way to our destination. It was in Miami and we decided to take surface streets instead of the Freeway. We stopped at a Starbucks. I hadn’t had an iced coffee for almost two weeks! :scared1:

Fran had a chocolate croissant

It began to rain like crazy! I was really glad we were on surface streets and not the Interstate! For Southern Californians like us, we hadn’t seen rain in so long that we were fascinated. I took a LOT more pictures than just these few.

I couldn’t believe how quickly the street flooded.

We really thought that the GPS was messing with us, when we started down a tiny little street like this.

But soon we found our destination.

And were thrilled to see this in the parking lot.

We were still captivated by the rain.

Inside we found this cute replica of a 50s Diner/café

And we were even more happy to see Mader’s buddy!

I posed with these cuties.

And then we entered the Museum/collection.

But first this

The first room was the “little” cars. There were some pretty trippy looking cars in here. This is just a small sampling of the pictures that I took.

[Continued in Next Post]

[Continued from Previous Post]

The owner of this collection really seems to like Batman. There was an entire room devoted to cars from the movies. I think one from the TV series was there too.

But Batman was not the only film obsession that this collector had. Shall we enter the Movie showcase?

This may not be Disney, but the Sherman Brothers did write the music. What movie is this?

Of course everyone knows what movie this is from!

America’s favorite Modern Stone Age Family

Who ya gonna call?

And here we are back to Disney!

Classic Disney

He was my hero as a kid

And who didn’t love these meddling kids?

Now I just showed you smattering of the cars that were in that room. There were plenty more cars I took pictures of that I didn’t show you and even more that I hadn’t seen the movie the car was from. But this next room was the insanity room. People say that Fran and I are obsessive in our collecting, but we ain’t got nothin’ on this collection! May I present to you, the James Bond room.

This was a room the size of my living room it was surrounded by glass cases with shelves, and every shelf was jam packed with James Bond paraphernalia.

Action figures, books, cigarette lighters in the form of guns, glassware, you name it, it was there. I thought this chess set was hilarious.

A few more shots.

[Continued in Next Post]

[Continued from Previous Post]

If anyone can clue me in to what this is from, I would appreciate it.

The museum was spread out into two different buildings. We walked across the parking lot to enter the other building. Here are some more shots of Mader.

The next building contained a variety of exhibits. See this place is chock full of Disney.

This part of the museum had lots of classic cars.

There was a room full of juke boxes from different eras.

And then there was a huge room full of even more cars.

They had this cute little country store exhibit.

Then there was a whole sections on bicycles

See? Disney is everywhere.

There were even more rooms, with European vehicles, and I didn’t even come close to showing you a percentage of the bicycles, but by this point, we were really starting to get exhausted and our brains were approaching critical overload. I was sort of done with pictures, in fact I had even started to sit down while Fran was looking at the exhibits, and then moving on when she would catch up with me.

We did check out this car towards the end of the exhibits. It’s a Dusey!

There were more rooms with Army vehicles, farm vehicles, and I’m not sure what else, put a fork in us, we were done.

That museum is SO cool, how nostalgic seeing all those famous cars! I was working in Miami a couple of times this year and that rain, hooo boy! I have to say your tshirt had me like :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Starbucks? :lovestruc

BTW what do you load your pics to? I use photobucket but all my pics come out small on my pretrippie and I can't resize them.
