What happens if you check in on the second day?

Maybe. Not too many years ago Disney would cancel double bookings when they noticed them. One poster had one resort booked as a package, and another room only, and ended up with the dining package room cancelled. They found out when they tried to use the credits. Disney thought they had abandoned their room, and even had had their stuff packed up and the room re-sold to another family.

You can spend your money however you like at WDW as long as Disney is fine with it too. And they hold all the power when it comes to room reservations.

Well they don't cancel them now. We book this way often, and we always book the second room-only reservation over the phone. It isn't against any policy to have two rooms reserved - I paid for them and I am not a no-show. I've combed through the policies, and there is none against multiple room reservations. So if I am willing to spend several thousand dollars more for a convenience, that is my choice.

Thanks guys. I was asking for a coworker who found a better deal but has non refundable plane tickets. I think she's going to make a call, but sometimes you get different answers depending on who you ask.

And I completely get the convenience thing with kids, heck I'd probably rent a room by the hour if they offered it and I was on the other side of the property!

It has been within the last few months that another Diser had a double booking cancelled. I would hesitate to say too that because you can't find a rule against something that Disney is ok with it. If they had in writing everything they didn't allow, then it would be a huge book or rules and regulations. Disney does have terms and conditions with regards to resort reservations, and they flat out tell you they are subject to change without notice.

You have been able to book 2 resorts in the past. I don't doubt it. But we have no way of knowing if it is allowed and endorsed by WDW, or something that slides by, and if caught would cause problems.

I have no idea what the actual policy is on this but if my reservation was PAID IN FULL and for whatever reason I was delayed or if for some reason something came up where I had to leave the property for an extent of time only to find out they had packed up my personal belongings and gave the room to someone else Disney would see a show of crazy like they had never seen before. Not that that helps to answer anyones question but that does not make sense AT ALL and seems to be way out of left field as far as something like this would go.

ETA: I mean for crying out loud what the heck would they care if someone booked ten rooms and never showed up as long as they were paid in full? They got exactly what they were asking for, nobody's destroying anything or infringing on anyone else's rights. That would be absolutely ludicrous.

We had to check in a day late 2 years ago. We called the hotel and let them know what was going on, and it was no problem. They were happy to keep our money for the first night!:rolleyes1

I actually did shoot an email to the IP and this is what I got. Looks like it only runs into a glitch if you have both linked to your My Disney Experience account.

"Dumela (Greetings) Regan,

The only thing is you cant have 2 resorts room keys on the magic bands but the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa can give you a card key for your stay. I called our special IT team and they have "un-linked "your Grand Floridian Resort stay from your My Disney Experience (this is the only way you will have a problem), so please don't link this part of your stay and you will be fine. No worries!

We checked in on the 2nd day on our trip in November. We had car problems on the day we were suppose to leave and did not arrive until the next day. All we did was call them and the CM transferred us to guest services and we told them our issue and they thanked us for calling and said that our room will be held. I find it hard to believe that if you do not actually check-in that they will hold your room unless you do call them ahead of time. Even if you do online check-in there is no guarantee, I have yet to receive a text telling me that our room was ready and that we do not need to check-in at the lobby.

This sounds rather made up, and if you've done this before I don't understand why you'd be emailing them to ask questions, as supposedly you would have already known how it works...

I emailed them because someone here suggested I email the IPO to get an "offiicial" answer, so I did, since I always stay CL and can have the IPO handle any requests or questions I have. I have no reason to make it up, but you go on thinking whatever you need to.

Yes, they do. RFID in the Magic Bands.

MBs are not required. At all. MBs can be forgotten , lost, etc.

I'm on this site most days and have been for years. I only recall ever hearing hypotheticals. Much like the CMs with their "you can only have x number of bands" nonsense or the "I've seen people towed [because of a reason there's no way for me to know]" stuff disers say, from what I've seen there's no basis in reality.

People on vacation do odd things and are unpredictable. Cars beak down, flights get delayed. People might get to town and find a long lost aunt wants to spend time with them so they hang out with her for a couple days. A single traveler might meet their new one true love and perhaps not show up in their own room for a bit. Etc. There's a whole George Carlin bit about packing that involves going here then choosing to go there and then another place, and what you pack each time (does not involve checking out of the other places) so this idea is not new.

I don't buy your wholeidea that if you personally haven't seen something happen that means it doesn't happen. Disney does try and work with guests a lot of the time. Sometimes they don't.

Anyone can book as many room-only reservations at as many resorts as they want. All I do is call and tell them when I have arrived at AKL and they check me in at GF.
Which is different from calling from home with a creative or genuine reason for not showing up on the day your reservation begins.

Not true. We frequently book two resorts for our stays, for the full stay. For instance, this trip next weekend, we have a 2-bedroom villa at the AKL from Jan. 29-Feb. 2 AS WELL AS a 2-Bedroom Suite at the Grand Floridian from Jan. 29-Feb. 2....for convenience purposes during the day. We use the GF room to change clothes, shower, etc. on the days we are at MK so we don't have to go all the way back to AKL in the middle of the day.

There are times during our stays that we go for 24 hours without accessing the room, and have never had it cancelled. Ever.

I'm sorry, I just have to stop and say HOLY COW a two bedroom suite at the GF just for showering??? Will you adopt me??? I'll stay in your suite for you. :cloud9::lovestruc:cloud9::lovestruc:goodvibes

Years ago we had a trip booked and there was a blizzard. All I did was call Disney and let them know our flights were cancelled and they said they would hold the room as long as we needed. We actually had 5 flights cancelled that we were re-booked on in the same day. It wasn't until late night we arrived, and our bags were lost. Disney handled everything flawlessly including getting our lost bags and delivering them to the room. As long as you keep in touch with them I think they will work with you.

LMAO!!! Come on over!!!

Sometimes I will actually call one of my Florida friends and see if they're free and want to stay in it for a night or two, since we don't sleep there lol. We're nuts, I am aware...but I just love saying at AKL so much, and it's just so far from everything...

Yes it is. But at the end of the day, my point is that they do work with you as long as they are aware of the situation. All you have to do is call them.

It's worth it to us. What's worthwhile to one family may not be to another. But for us, it's what we choose to do with our 3-year-old triplets. We like the quiet of AKL and the ambience, but we like the convenience of the resorts on the monorail. So we generally book a package with dining and tickets at AKL and then a room-only reservation at either GF or Poly. We do this often and haven't ever had a problem.

With 5 or 6 Disney trips a year, I'm really surprised you don't have annual passes.

I don't like to commit to an annual pass. Also, we don't always take the full family - sometimes it's just my mom and I, or just my husband and I. It doesn't really make financial sense to buy for the 3 kids when we don't always take them, or of my husband when he doesn't always come along.
