Private Cabanas at Magic Kingdom: Last Day to Rent One - February 17, 2017

I have traveled extensively in Europe including England, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, & in Hong Kong in China. I have never seen a pay toilet.

In France they are not that common, but if you come to the Netherlands or Belgium they are very common. In stores, stations mainly. Sometimes gas stations and restaurants, in Belgium theatres. The money is used to pay for the cleaning lady. Hey, Europe pay-toilets even inspire art -> The musical Urinetown was inspired by the writer travelling through Europe on a budget. :)

But to come back to the topic, if the tents stay they need A/C n the summer the heat will be even more intense than outside, regardless of being in the shade.
I think the theming / more permanent structure will come when they are successful.

Have you traveled in Europe? Pay-restrooms abound.

Harrod's has pay toilets. I ran into them in several other places in London, as well as in Ireland. Never saw any in Italy.

Unless you legit plan to sleep for several hours, I think it would be really tough to maximize use of this. I've been touring WDW with small children for 10 years, and it would be more work to keep going back to the tent (whoops, "cabana") then it would be to just find a nice place to relax wherever you are. We just duck in a restaurant or shady area, rest up, and then go on our way. Trekking from Splash Mountain to a tent behind Space would be a much longer journey than popping into Peco's Bills and grabbing a glass of water or plopping down to watch Country Bear Jamboree. Also, we use the Dumbo play area, which is the best idea ever for hot and tired parents. And it's free.

Hey, if WDW can get some people to waste their $$ on a tent, then more power to them. Sorry but MK has a lot of places to rest and relax. When our DDs were younger and napped in their stroller, we had no issues finding a nice spot and have a snack while resting. I think the most we spent was $20, and it was a snack of our choice.

You've obviously never been there during Christmas week. Last Dec. 29 in MK the only place DS and I could find to sit and eat our popcorn was on a fake rock next to a garbage can.

:) Now, see, a share during a solo trip, I can see. Let me know if you'll book one over Princess and want people for a share. ;)

Ooooooh ... that's a GREAT idea! Let me check with the gals and I'll let you know ...

Thinking of it, we get access to the DVC lounge in Epcot for free as members. There are free beverages and chips. Charging stations. Comfy chairs. Could've napped if we wanted. No need for an extra $650 for a cabana....especially since we felt we were wasting time hanging out in there. There's a whole park what needs experiencin'! LOL

Most won't but all they need is a few groups each day who do to be successful. We are a tiny fraction of guests on DIS and folks here are already booking.

The After Hours took a lot more guests and I honestly think it would have been a hit if they marketed it and got the price point right to begin with. They didn't do either. After Hours can be a huge hit at DHS and AK once new Lands open.

We did the After Hours and was completely worth it to us.
After Hours was awesome and well worth the price of admission, especially considering the price for a one-day ticket. When else can you walk onto the rides or just stay on.

We need to start a "Share a cabana" thread, so that 4 couples or 2 Dis families could book it (like IllumiNations cruises) and enjoy the amenities for a day.
I think for all the aforementioned reasons, especially the reserved FW and parade viewing with a group it would be worth it.
IMHO of course...

ETA: I jumped the gun and posted this many pages ago, but I could definately see doing a share!

A Thread would be nice, they said they wouldn't have one yet because it's in testing. I just hope to find someone for the other 3 spots on ours, or I'll probably end up canceling because it's worth $80ea to me, but not $130 lol

At Magic kingdom right now
- the tents are camouflaged and concealed by shrubs, if you're looking for them you will only see the top of them
- I decided to walk into the area since there was no sign of no entry, all 4 tents were occupied by guests, I could see a guy taking a nap with the "door" closed, so assuming it does have a/c since it's 83 right now
- another tents door was open, got a couple of pics, they don't look horrible inside, the fridge was full of sodas and water, the snacks were small bags of chips, goldfish, doritos, fritos. The fruit basket was placed on the table , medium size.
Long, L shaped couch, rug and I could see the locker
-Plaids were all around but didn't tell me smudging when I was taking pictures
Will post the pics when I get home tonight

We loved it. Went towards the end and was planning to ask for AP discount. They told us price had been dropped for everyone. I think at that point they had found a good price. Probably too late. All that stopped us from riding everything was the walking time and the rides we repeated over and over.

I liked being able to try ALL the ice cream and now I know .... Mickey Bars really are my favorite. :mickeybar

Also, I am sure these will become far more substantial looking if the idea takes off, as well as far more attractive.
I love the idea of Epcot having them as well.
As each park expands, there is going to be more people interested in NOT leaving the parks and losing precious touring time.
I predict it will become not only a staple at WDW, but that places like 6 Flags, Cedar Pointe, and Busch Gardens will eventually follow suit, though probably at a lower price point.
Hang on to your hats, the future is coming!

I also do not get all the anger. I have no interest, but if I was traveling with a large group, had folks who needed or wanted a dedicated spot to rest, and planned on being in the MK on a busy day, this would be something to consider. Once you deduct the cost of beverages and snacks for the day, divide between the adults in the group, and factor the value of reserved viewing for entertainment, the value may be realized.
Plus one. You are not forced to get one. People will pay for them. Just not us.

I think Disney found a price point where it would sell. But if it was a profitable enough price point to make Disney happy, I think it would have had more dates added. And it didn't.

Here are the pics I took today, like I said in my previous post all the tents were reserved (there are 4 in total)
From the outside you want really see them other than the top, this is an area on the side of Space Mountain that was rarely used

GREAT PICS!!! :thumbsup2

I'm still voting "eyesore".
I can tell you that you cannot see them unless you know what you are looking for. I told my DD16 about these tents, told her where they were located and when we were walking toward them I asked her if she could see them, she said no. I had to point out the hedge and the "roof" of the tents.

It wasn't profitable enough because they didn't have enough folks booking it and that is because they did a horrible job marketing it ... they actually didn't market it, just assumed folks would stumble across it on the website. And the initial price point.

They do EMH for free, so other than ice cream and drinks cost, any money they collected was more than they got for EMH. What they needed was a realistic price point to start with, a legit marketing of the event and then they would have sold out their max numbers. That would have been a nice pocket of change.
