Disney’s MARVELous Super Hero - New You - New Year Celebration – January 2017!!

I am not leaving the group though, I just won't be reporting progress towards goal.

So glad you are sticking around - I love having the experience of those further along in the journey brings to the group :-)

Hello everyone! Even though I haven't posted in a few months, I still check in every once in a while to see how everyone is doing. Glad to see everyone doing well! We have our cruise/disney world trip coming up in a couple months and I'm starting to get excited. Our 60 days out fp reservation day is Sunday and that's when it gets real for me.

I've spent the last three months holding steady between the 190 lb/195 lb mark. I'm going to try and lose about another 10 before the trip - easier said than done, I know. I haven't done much running over the last month, but I'm going to start that up again soon to try and knock off a couple more lbs.

Anyway, just want to check in and say hello. Keep up the good work!

So glad you dropped in! I also have been thinking about you wondering how you have been going. Have a wonderful holiday with your family :D
.............................

Some really great woohoos today everyone!

I am going to woohoo that I have 3 healthy kids and pray for it to stay that way.

Other than that I am struggling with woohoos - my vacation time is very fast coming to an end and I have blown the budget big time.

So catching up on how I will use The Hulk as my inspiration .... I need to think smarter like Dr Bruce Banner and The Hulk's strength is directly connected to his level of emotional upset - so I am thinking when I am upset or angry I need to use that to build my strength - mentally and physically.

Have SUPER day everyone.

Just another quick drop in! My woohoo is that I seem to be in some odd zen like taking care of myself zone for a change. I've been following my walking program to a T, eating fruits and vegetables, and mostly ignoring the office candy jar. I could use a lot more sleep and a shorter work day but that is a problem for another year. For now, I feel great!

This month for me has been about balance, sticking to a plan, and being flexible. Being nearly half way through the month it's exciting to see healthy progress in my job and how many "good checks" I have in my workout plan. So far sitting at 100% for the month and making sure I find ways to get them in.

You guys are kind of amazing. I don't know what I'd do without you :)

Woohoo I am 11 for 11 on my walk time this month

Woohoo 11 year old's Junior Bible Quiz binder has been found

Woohoo 9 year old did not destroy the house while both 11 year old and I were asleep ( oops) this evening

Woohoo I don't have to drive out in these roads tomorrow night as DH can drop 11 year old off at martial arts and her JBQ coach can pick her up, take her to practice, and bring her home. I will have to go out on Friday but that will mostly be daylight hours and we might go as a family.

Woohoo The flat on the car happened at DH's work last night and one of his co workers made 2 trips to the gas station to put air first in the spare which went flat as soon as they put it on the car and then to fill the original which got him home ( I need to remind him tomorrow to get me the numbers so I can call and get prices for getting at least a couple of tires)

Woohoo The 2nd person who stopped was able to get us out of the drift on the side of the road last night

Woohoo The scale is going the direction I want it to go

Woohoo I managed to get 2 slices of bacon out of the package

Woohoo My Bamboo paper towels worked for cooking an entire package of bacon and they are in fairly good shape after cleaning them out with dish soap in the sink. I still need to toss them in with a load of laundry. I normally use disposable paper towels but all I had were those annoying select a size ones with soap dots in them that I accidentally bought not realizing they had either of them ( oops at least I only got a 2 pack and it's just about gone plus I will get some good ones on Friday)

Woohoo I was able to get my phone card last night so I have my phone back ( I was without it for about 21 hours)

Woohoo I did not overdraft the bank account this paycheck round and I just have to get through tomorrow till payday ( DH knows how much we have and has a short list of items to pick up as well as if he thinks it needs it putting in some gas to get until he gets off Friday morning and then he can fill it for me

Sweetpeama, I loved your long lists of woohoos! And this one made me laugh! It's good that you realized your mistake with the soapy paper towels before you put the bacon on them. That would have been awful to ruin the perfectly good bacon!! :crazy2:

Trying to find paper towels that are not those anything a size is proving to be difficult. I though I found some on our last run but the package was turned in the box so I couldn't read them and I just looked at the price it worked so in the cart they went. I thought the green dots on them were just for decoration and discovered it was soap cleaning up a water spill. I just want a full size non detergent paper towel is that too much to ask. It would have been very sad to ruin good bacon especially since we are getting low ( we should have another hog coming in the next couple of months and I could always cure and smoke some of the side pork we have. Maybe next week towards the end of the week since it's supposed to be in the low 40s. Have to see if Dad can pull the smoker out onto the back driveway pad and DH can take stuff over to smoke. Might do a rear roast as well).

QOTD: Do you have any injuries that you need to be careful of when getting active? How do you cope when can't do your usual exercise routine?

Bonus QOTD: Do you think you do enough to look after your bones and protect them from diseases like osteoporosis - e.g. strength training and dairy/calcium intake?

okay confession todays question was inspired by my sore knee... I went to the Doctor today - I been resisting for several days but my anxiety and need for reassurance got the better of me. So last week when DS12 and I were at the movies ... perfectly normal length movie ... when it ended and I stood up my right knee hurt quite a bit ... I though it was probably a bit stiff from sitting.... but it has lingered to varying degrees and I have been getting some sensations down my leg and into my foot that made me uncomfortable and anxious. So doctor examines me and says he thinks its a sprain .... Ahm hello... from standing up???!!!! Boy do I feel old unfit and overweight. So I have ibuprofen and exercises o_O.

I know I definitely need more calcium in my diet - that is part of my plan from the dietician at the moment. I really need to be better at this as my mum has osteoporosis. A few years ago she got a small fracture in her foot from kicking a soccer ball with the kids!

No particular injuries, but I do have a knee that has the occasional bit of pain.... I hate to even admit it out loud because it makes me sound OLD! Not sure what it is exactly, but I've had it for about 10 years. I bought an OTC knee wrap/brace and when it the knee is flaring up a bit, I wear it for a few days. Then it feels better and I can ignore it for a while longer (sometimes it doesn't bother me again for months).

Now, bone strength.... such an important topic. I am a woman who is officially on the downward slope of menopause. I don't take any HRT and I don't plan to so I know that my bone health should be in the forefront of my mind. That being said, I don't take calcium or anything else. I just cannot seem to remember to take vitamins/supplements on a regular basis. I've tried many tricks, including putting them in my work bag where I will see them when I eat lunch... but I forget more than I remember! Stupidly, DS has pills to take every day and I remember to remind HIM! I do eat a diet that is healthy with a fair amount of natural calcium (dairy, broccoli, etc) and I am active (weight-bearing exercises build/strengthen bone), so I imagine I'm doing okay. That being said, my dear Grandmother died of complications associated with multiple spinal fractures (over the course of years) due to severe osteoporosis. It was a very sad slow painful way to die and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. And with a family history like that, I know I should be more pro-active. Thanks for the reminder.

Good morning all! I'm done with my 24/7 shift and I'm not working at school today because I am going with DD to see a new hairdresser. If you've ever seen a photo of us, we both have very long hair.... DD can currently tuck hers into her waistband. And she is really particular about who touches it.... so when your trusted hairdresser isn't available any longer, what's a girl to do? Well, we got a recommendation from a cousin and so we are visiting a hairdresser who is 90 minutes away! We must be nuts! And from there we will dash to the WW meeting I am subbing at tonight. So probably no other time to pop on today.

We all managed to find something to eat last night, but it was a struggle! We ate pretty much what I had predicted we would. I found a post-Christmas treat that I had put into the freezer for DS (the leftover twice-baked potato filling) so that made him happy. DD finished off the remaining cooked chicken with some pasta and sauce, and as I planned, I had egg whites, sprouts, and roasted sweet potato. Not too exciting, but it filled the bellies and emptied the fridge! My post-dinner treat was warm stevia-sweetened almond milk and one pizzelle cookie dipped into 1 serving of PB2. We have an apple or two and one banana left, so those will end up as part of breakfast, as will the remaining roasted sweet potato and carton of egg whites. I'll probably make myself a change-it-up breakfast bowl.

Anyhow..... coffee is calling! TTY tomorrow.............P

I have issues with my right foot. I have plantar fasciitis, heel spurs and tendinitis. I think there is something else too but I can't remember. My right foot hurts constantly now for a few years. The worst though was when I had a pinch nerve between my second and third toe and the other time was when I found out I had tendinitis. I found that one out after getting back from Disney September 2015. By the end of the trip I was barley walking. There is not much they can do for what is wrong with my foot. My hope is as I lose weight it will get at least somewhat better. This week the top of my foot cracked while I was walking on the treadmill. Since then I have been having some more pain on the outside of my foot and in my ankle/heel area. This is feeling like the tendinitis is acting up again. I meant to wear the brace/air cast today to work but I over slept and rushed around this morning and forgot it. As long as i am still able to walk I will still get in my 10,000 steps a day. I will just walk slower on the treadmill. But I have a feeling by the end of the week/weekend it is going to bad so I should try to take it easy.

I am horrible when it comes to calcium. Mainly because I can't swallow pills that are any bigger then Advil and even that I have trouble with at times. I know it is all in my head but It still does not change the fact that I can't take them. I also will not eat any gummy bear type of vitamins either. They are just really gross and I gag on them. I can't even eat fruit snacks. I have also tried the caramel and chocolate ones and they are gross too. I also don't eat much dairy anymore. After having spoiled milk about a year ago (the date was still good on it too) I haven't been able to drink it again. I wasn't a fan to start with so this was not a big change. Other the past year and half I have been finding that my body does not like certain foods that I love. it really sucks. So far I know I can't eat cheese and eggs. I also don't like yogurt but I really want too. I have tried so many different kinds and brands but just can't get over the taste. So the bottom line is I just need to suck it up and take the stupid pill.

+++++++++++

Yesterday went pretty good. I got in 12,000 steps. At about 9 last night I got a really bad headache and I still have it today. I am sure I will have it most of the week and there is not much I can do about it. Thankfully Advil typically will take it away. We will see how I feel this afternoon. I may or may not feel up to a workout tonight. I also have cramps and my foot is hurting so maybe 1 night of rest might do me good. I am pretty sure I will still be down a pound this week even if I miss a workout tonight. I have been eating really good this week. After dinner I am usually around 800-900 calories for the day which has left me enough calories to have a snack at night. This week I have been have chocolate covered pretzels. I have been weighing them out and only eating about 2 servings. So I have been staying around 1200 calories for the day with about a 500 calorie deficit. Ok I better go. I have a lot of work to get done again today. Hope everyone has a good day!

Well.... I think you know what I am going to say! I say MEETINGS!! They are so much fun and full of inspiration and news and comradery!

Wow.... I'd have a hard time passing up a fun time with friends for time in the gym... that's great!

That's a great benefit from your employer! As someone who never did the meetings, I now think that if I would join WW again, I would do it with the meetings. I think they are a great way to focus your mind once a week on why you are doing what you are doing. And 10$ per month is not too bad of a difference. I think for me it would have been about a 30$ difference, that is why I never did it.

I decided on online only for now! Mostly because my budget is tight and they've transitioned us to 26 pay periods instead of 24 which means month-month-month it'll get even tighter (even though it'll all even out in the end).

QOTD: Do you have any injuries that you need to be careful of when getting active? How do you cope when can't do your usual exercise routine?

My hip! Haha. After runs a lot of times my hip hurts when I walk, when I pick up my leg, when I move it in general...I think it's tendonitis or something. Usually if I stretch after I run then I can keep it under control. I just am one of those weirdos that really hates stretching. It's so boring! My other problem is my asthma. Which I'm struggling with currently and haven't worked out since I ran outside on Monday. I'm coughing a lot and not feeling like I can take a full breath. This came on kinda suddenly so it may be some bronchitis or something. I've had it before. I've been taking mucinex and chugging water in hopes that it'll go away. But I'm also giving my lungs a rest because I have a race at the end of this month and I'd rather be in tip top shape for it! But it's making me feel a little blue that I can't run.

------

I didn't end up hitting the gym yesterday but I had a GREAT evening catching up on things at home. I put some chicken in the crock pot, cleaned my whole house, decluttered my living room, showered, and finished reading my book. So it was definitely not a night wasted although it sounded like I missed quite a bit of fun with my usual gang. Oh well! Money saved, calories not consumed, and a clean house so I really can't complain about that.

The next few days should be interesting in MO! It was 67 degrees yesterday and today the high is 32 with an anticipated ice storm throughout Saturday and Sunday :upsidedow up to possibly 3/4" of ice. So basically I better get my errands done tonight and tomorrow because there's a good chance that I'm gonna be stuck inside all weekend. Fingers crossed that it doesn't impact the Chiefs in their playoff game! Sadly, Pittsburgh's probably not a stranger to inclement weather either.

Pittsburgh has played it this a lot. But I am hoping with Big Ben hurt that you can beat them. I haven't followed the Cheifs this year but being a dreaded Browns fan I will root for any team to beat The Steelers.

I am hoping that we don't get your weather. I hate the ice storms. Over night we hit 64 degrees. Almost tied the record high. We have a ton of rain though. We are supposed to get 1-2 inches today. Thankfully not snow. That would be like 2 feet then. We are supposed to get colder over the weekend and then warm up next week to the mid 50's again. Stay save this weekend.

I have a problem with my right leg. It got worse with each pregnancy and sometimes it gets bad when I run. I went to a doc and a PT and got a bunch of different answers but I think I agree with the Doc that it is a nerve. It kinda sounds weird but when I drink protein shakes it seems to go away and I can definitely tell when I slack on them. It is unusual for me not to do my routine, it would have to be something serious for me to not get my run in so in that case I probably would be laying in bed :)

As far as bones I am not very good with that. My mom is obsessed with getting enough calcium and is always telling me to get my calcium in but I always forget.

Ooooh man.... between the rubber ankles that I twist regularly, the plantar fasciitis, hip flexor that hates when I run, and my rib that likes to pop out of place regularly, I am ALWAYS afraid of injury when I am active. The funny and ironic part of all of this is that if I were to strengthen my muscles, tone up, and lose some more weight, I bet some of these things would work themselves out! But I also don't cope well when these things are bothering me. I tend to just quit working out and opt for leisure bubble baths instead.

I don't think about my bones actually..... Another thing to add to my list of things to be wary of!

I have some arthritis in my neck and some less than ideal "configurations" in my spine (too flat between the shoulders and a twist in a lower lumbar) that are fine as long as I stay on a regular maintenance schedule, so I can't really say they get in the way of being active. The only physical thing in my body that is problematic is the actual extra weight I'm carrying around. That and the couch and knitting...

I don't think about bone health and probably should.

So the walk Sunday is planned to be about 12 miles - holy cow! My max right now is probably around 5 miles, so we're looking for a mid-way point where I can park and someone can take me back to the beginning point to start with everyone else. I want to get up to the 10 to 12 mile range though, so that's a new goal for the year. If this walk doesn't work out there's an evening one during the week down at the beach in my neck of the woods that'll do, although I really want to walk thru some woods.

Can't believe it's already Thursday... this is my first complete work week in over a month and I thought it would drag, but it has flown by.

Good morning everyone :D

Bonus QOTD: Do you think you do enough to look after your bones and protect them from diseases like osteoporosis - e.g. strength training and dairy/calcium intake?

Unexpected downtime due to being stuck in a metro tunnel. Hopefully won't last too much longer since I'm already late for a meeting. But it does give me a chance to answer the QOTD!

First, I may not be into superheroes but I do enjoy gazing at Thor. And the new Superman (is he Marvel?).

Second, injuries. I'm a walking disaster which is one of the reasons I really do need to lose weight. I've got bilateral Achilles tendenosis and a knee with a patella that likes to dislocate. So I avoid heels because they shorten the tendon (which actually makes me like wearing heels) and make it really painful for me to walk in flat shoes or barefoot. I also need to brace my knee if I'm going to be doing anything involving lateral motion. Tennis and basketball are definitely out!

Bonus, QOTD. I'm from a long line of small boned women with osteoporosis so I do worry a lot about bone health. My dairy intake is high (trying to shift to more yogurt and less cheese but it is rough sailing) and I also supplement with calcium and Vit D in addition to my multi. I've never been terribly consistent with strength training but I know what walking a lot helps. And I try to remember to jump up and down a few times a day. Hopefully I'll get good news when I get my first bone density check next year. :)

QOTD: Do you have any injuries that you need to be careful of when getting active? How do you cope when can't do your usual exercise routine?

Had one knee taken out by a Targhee ewe when I was 11 then 5.5 months later but I had turned 12 I took the other one out in a bike accident coming down on the hill from Yellowtail Dam when I hit a patch of gravel on a curve left from the previous winter ( the gravel not the curve) and went sliding across 2 lanes and inches from going under a guard rail and over a cliff. I did get back on riding after that incident but after almost being hit in my early 20's I gave up riding especially after I finally got my driver's license ( family was not too interested in my driving till I had a job that required my being picked up at 10:30-11 PM every single night and that was the early job the other one was anywhere from 1-3 AM when we would be done with close). Can't count how many times I have gotten sprained ankles and heal spurs. My back goes out more than I do-doesn't help that one side is lower and shorter than the other so I am naturally off balance. If there is a tiny patch of ice I am going to find it and often land on the ground which is why there are times that my DH has forbidden me to go out. At least now when I do have to go out if he is not with us to help with the girls 11 year old is great about making sure that 9 year old gets to the truck and buckled and all that so I just have to get myself and maybe my purse ( 11 year old often takes that for me too) down the stairs outside and to the truck).
I cope by doing a more modified routine which is one of the biggest reasons that I am doing 10 minutes instead of more so that I can get a consistent time in as opposed to doing the recommended 20-30 minutes and having my body tell me hell to the no when my mind is saying this is something we can do and should do. I know that there are those out in the world who would not approve and would say that I am lazy, unmotivated, and don't want to loose weight. Those are also the ones that tell me you must follow x diet exactly ( usually the one they are selling) in order to loose enough of a percentage that you can have which ever form of weight loss surgery they either had themselves, know someone who had, or their research has decided would be the best for me and that I can just take out a loan to do it because you should be able to afford it. Never mind that these are not medical trained in any way shape or form other than maybe they took a class through CPR Saturday. These also tend to be the same people who tell me that my 9 year old's apraxia would be cured if I put her on what ever diet they think that I should be on. Guess what Gluten/Dairy, Paleo, Proteins and non starchy vegetables ( no dairy, no starch vegetables, no fruit, no grain products) diets are not going to cure a neurological disorder because if one of them did it would be all over the parent support groups. The only thing that they have found that seems to help some kids is additional fish oil supplements which we have her take when we can afford them and actually remember to give them to her, but we also don't want her to develop such a tolerance so it is a balance on when she takes them as well.

Bonus QOTD: Do you think you do enough to look after your bones and protect them from diseases like osteoporosis - e.g. strength training and dairy/calcium intake?

I should and could be doing more in this category though at my size just carrying my weight should be considered strength training. I do try and get some dairy or calcium in every day though a certain 9 year old makes it a challenge when she alone drinks almost an entire gallon of milk in 2 days. She not only has speech apraxia but oral and motor as well so eating is not easy for her and she prefers to drink her caloric intake. I honestly think if she had her way she never would have given up the milk bottle but mean mommy and mean daddy made her. Between that and the list of foods she will not eat and the ones that she will which has changed ( she used to eat things like chicken nuggets and chicken strips which are currently a no food) meals are a real challenge. Even grabbing a fast food burger is interesting with her. She will eat the bun at Wendy's but not at McDonald's but don't ask for a cheese burger with no bun there because they put it in a lettuce leaf and that folks is a no if she sees it even if it is removed. Now that she is more active she is a little bean pole but when she was little she was in the 90-95% in both height and weight. Even with that every time there was this what is your child's age stats on the mommy boards someone would start in on how my child is over weight. She is now in the 90th for height and 20th for weight which yes does make finding clothing very difficult. I think carrying her around for as long as I did helped with the strength training. Now since she dead weights and even DH who lifts heavy weighted boxes for his entire shift can't easily carry her she gets told that she is a big girl and can walk-another mean parent moment in her eyes.

@sweetpeama I have no personal experience with it, but there is a fitness program on DVDs called Walk Away the Pounds. From what I have heard about it, it is a lot of walking in place, not high energy jumping around. I see that a lot of the videos can be found on youtube. I just did a search and this seems to be a relatively easy one:
Maybe doing something like this will help you feeling less crazy about running around inside? I know the video is 15 minutes and you are doing only 10 now. But there is no rule that you need to do the whole video!

Thanks for the video! I actually think I'm going to try this, but only once my roommates are at work because my room is upstairs lol. I need a way to exercise because I honestly just can't afford a gym membership right now. I want to get out there and start walking around my neighborhood eventually, but my work schedule is just crazy right now. But I will def get there and I'm going to bookmark this.
