Can I just throw this out there? Maybe it's a concern that there won't be anything available at their desired resort more than getting FD? I mean, I'm sure FD plays into it for a lot of people but that may not be the overriding concern. I dunno. I'm just throwin' it out there. :confused3

In my case , you are correct. I want the discount but I am Limited in my travel dates and where I can stay on property . I prefer POP over the all stars , and I like the luxury of the dining plan because I don't want to worry about the food bill when I am on vacation . I wish I was disciplined enough to save the money I am paying for the dining plan and bring it with me , but I am not ! So paying off the trip little by little over the last few months is just a better option . The moderates are just to costly , except for CBR because of construction but can't stand the thought of being around a construction site ( been living in a construction site for several years now because of Hurricane Sandy) .

You have the $400? Do you need to spend it on anything else? Do you want to go to POR and have your friend enjoy POR? Then do it.
I don't NEED to spend it on anything else, but there's stuff i could buy with it that that would be a lot more practical and should probably be a higher priority... I really love POR and my friend hasn't been to Disney since she was really little, so she's relying on me for all the planning. I know she would love it when she got there, but i'm having trouble explaining to her why it's worth the extra money

I have gone the week prior to thanksgiving and the 2nd week in December and both weeks were pretty similar. I love the holidays in Disney, you can't wrong.

It is my dream to see disney at Christmas time!! I really hope to make it happen this year:)

Here is a different way to look at it though. She hasn't been since she was little so she is going to think everything is amazing. Even a value. Save the $$. Be happy you are at DISNEY. I keep trying to see how I can make a MOD work too. But, I'm just going to have to be happy to be at Disney and put the rest behind me.

You know what is funny, you do all this planning and once you get there not as much of it matters, it's just time have fun!

We went for the first time last year and loved it! We splurged for the Christmas party, and thought was well worth it!

Week after Thanksgiving and second week of December are great. That third week getting pretty heavy.

Thank you! Do think there's more a chance for swimming weather in November? I know it's only a few weeks a part, but I'm just trying to have something sway me one way or another

I will definitely be doing that!! We try to treat every vacation like it might be the only time we have the opportunity, so we try to do it all

Can I ask a question, why don't I book now, where I want to go (pop standard room - not really where I want to be but all I can afford) and add the free dining later? Am I missing something?

This is tough! We always stayed at POR, 9 people with two rooms and had free DDP which saved us a ton! What would be the next level up without breaking the bank? WL? AK? The villas are all so expensive . . .

The cheapest deluxes are WL, AKL, SSR studio and OKW studio. Unfortunately, all of those only fit 4 so unless the 9th is under 3, those probably won't work for you. You could try a 2 bedroom villa at OKW as that will sleep 9 and actually comes out being slightly less than 2 rooms at any of the other deluxes (even cheaper than 2 studios at OKW). For comparative purposes, for dates in late August, I am showing two rooms at CSR at around $400+ tax and the 2 br villa at OKW is $645, so a $245/ night difference at least for that time period. Obviously that still will be more than to just upgrade everyone to DDP at CSR though.

I wanted to do that but DH's only request was completely separate rooms from the grandkids so he gets a little break. He's footing the bill so I can't argue!

Not trying to sway you or anything, but you might be able to request a 2 bedroom lockoff villa where you have 2 different entrances and just a lockable door between the two parts- basically just like connecting rooms. Even the dedicated 2 bedrooms have separate bedrooms where you can go to get away...
