Joy to the World: an offsite Christmas extravaganza at Disney, Universal & SeaWorld – Dec. 2016 TR

*hugs* I'm sure Jake will miss you on Mother's Day too. You'll just have to designate a future day together as a substitute for it - we celebrate it earlier in the year in the UK (it's the 4th Sunday in Lent) and there are some countries that celebrate in August so there's no reason that your Mother's Day has to be the same as everyone else in the US/Canada's.

I'm glad your employment card came through - that was quicker than you suggested it might be a little while ago. Hopefully you'll find something you like the look of and the fact that you don't need to work may work in your favour in terms of starting off at slightly below market rate in a job that you want (rather than searching for one that pays "enough" like many others will be).

Good luck with the job search! I'm sorry it's been stressful

Awe, hugs to you Gina! I'm sure you will do great wherever you end up. They will love you!

I know its tough to be away from family, especially around the holidays :sad1:

I think you and Tony should plan to come down in October......specifically, the 14th to the 21st. And that's a serious offer. You've got 5 months to get some vacation time approved and put the plans in place. Promise me you will give it some thought?

Oh, how I wish we could. But the balance in my savings account tells me that the only traveling I should be doing is back and forth to work.

I've also been a bit emotional as Mother's Day weekend approaches, knowing I'll be spending it without either my boy or my momma. Just some raw feelings I need to work through during this first year away from family. It's made keeping my mind on a quality entry impossible, though I know I need to reframe my thinking and get back to productive posts.

I'm confident that Steve has something fantastic for you planned for Sunday. I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day. :flower1::flower1:

Wanted to chime in to let you know that I'm another one here to support you  I feel empathy for you - it is not easy being away from both mother and son at any time never mind Mother's Day, but remember its because you have such a big heart that you feel pain right now. Turn that around and know that is also what makes you such a giving mother and daughter.

My hubby is much :-)rolleyes1) older than you are, and has managed to adapt well to his new consulting role (and he likes to a good job like you!). You will find a new path forward!

I second the motion about you finding work related to travel.....finding a job where you are coordinating logistics would be one way to go. Another would be to essentially do what you do here - be a travel blogger! You write so, so well! :thumbsup2

Also sending hugs and prayers that the perfect job will come your way! Mother's Day is always a sticky wicket, isn't it? I'm trying to adjust my expectations and just hoping for no back talk from my teenagers and maybe a hug or two! My job situation took a downturn recently quite unexpectedly, and I'm still trying to process it. You'd think that would give me more time for housework or something productive, but it only means I've been watching WAY too much Netflix ;)

beautiful hard cover that he wanted to buy f
beautiful bound books are always a great buy! Especially if it's a book you enjoy (or will enjoy again someday). I have hardbound copies of my favorite books (maybe even more than one copy if it's a new binding).

Steve has been talking a lot about Christmas in Orlando again this year, despite it being (at this point) out of our budget. I
. Ooh ooh go around New Years and that 1st week in January! We will be there to pick up oldest kid from Disney-just DH and I - I'm trying to talk him into going for New Years (Epcot!) - even though DD won't be done for a few days later:D

And also:grouphug: to you! For missing loved ones this weekend. Although Steve certainly did a good job on the present!!

Looked through the pics n Facebook- you do such a great job of documenting in picures! And congratulations on the employment card!!! I was also going to suggest looking at a service organization like Sertoma or Optimists for getting to know people. We've made some truly great friends thru these groups- bonus you get to have fun while making kids lives better in the community.

Sending you love Gina. I'm sorry you are hurting this week. Take all the time you need. I hope things feel brighter soon.

Sending a Happy Mothers Day to you! If I could have a second mom, I'd be pick you! (I'm only a few years older than Jake after all).

I'm, apparently, a major shrew in several family members' eyes as well :guilty:. My sister and I haven't spoken in years (I don't like the way she mistreats my mom, who has Alzheimers :sad1:) and apparently my brother thinks I need mental help [because I refuse to condone my sister's selfish behaviour]. Sigh. Steve's family is just happy to largely ignore us, but I guess that's an improvement over my side. Every holiday season, after yet another spectacle at a family dinner we are forced to attend, Jake thanks us not-so-jokingly for making him a only child .

Your $6K limit includes flights?
My brother and I are very close. In fact in our entire lives we have never had so much as a cross word between us. His wife is the sister I never had. When our kids were younger they played together every weekend. The kids now have all gone in different directions partially because they have grown up but also because we can no longer have any family get togethers. We don't have Christmas or Easter or anything because of my mom. I am totally held hostage smack in the middle. This thing has gone on for years and there is no real reason for it. Drives me nuts that grown adults can't sit in a room for a few hours, a few times a year and behave. Funny that your issue is with how your mother is treated. My situation is how my mother 'thinks' she has been treated which is all in her head.

Yep, that $6K is including flights. DH and I had a talk about it yesterday while killing a large amount of time at a competition(I can brag again if need be :rolleyes1) and we decided to see what flights will look like next week. If it's less than $1000 USD we will pursue plans to go to Orlando. Otherwise it will most likely be Mexico. Weather is playing a big role for DH right now.

Congratulations on getting your Employment Authorization Card! I think you would be an asset to most any organization and you'll find the right fit before you know it. I think you should consider doing something at one of the tourist places. Your personality and interest in the greater world would make you delightful in working with visitors.

 for dealing with being away on Mother's Day. I know how rough it can feel being far apart. You are close in their hearts and they in yours.

Aw, thank you. You're exceptionally kind. While I would LOVE to work in the tourist industry, I'm fairly certain that won't be an option here. It sure would be fun, though!! And that's part of my problem with this whole job hunt, really. I truly enjoyed my last job, so my options here aren't stacking up too promisingly in comparison. I am fearing I won't find something I actually like doing, and that makes me rather sad.

Well I am sending a big hug to you. Missing family is hard. Often the pressure we put on ourselves is harder then anything. You have a great hubby. I just wish you lived by me and I would hire you in an instant. You would fit in great with my office mate and me. We are the only women in our company and could use more female common sense in the establishment.... and people who actually do their job..... :-) :rolleyes1 Can you tell how my day is going?

have a wonderful weekend.

Oh, if only I were closer!! I'd take you up on that offer in a heartbeat! I don't suppose you want to relocate your business to Michigan, do you? ;)

I imagine it isn't easy being away from your mom and Jake this weekend. I hope you are able to have a Happy Mother's Day despite being away from family. Maybe you and Steve can make a new tradition for the two of you!

Congrats on the Employment Authorization Card! I'm sure you will find some work to get out of the house for a little bit!

I've been diligent in applying for virtually anything....from office work to retail. I am hoping for part time (so I can maybe volunteer somewhere one day a week...something I have always wanted to be able to do, but never could with a full-time job) but will consider more for the right job. It's amazing how much time can be sucked up by looking for work. I have easily spent more than two hours each day on Indeed, reading ads and submitting resumes.

Congratulations on your Employment authorization card...you can do this! Any company should be very happy to get you! I feel bad that you won't be with your mom or son on Mother's Day. Hopefully Steve has planned something special for you. We don't feel great on Father's Day now that my dad has passed away. My kids also have no contact with their dad so we celebrate "us" day. Last year we went to African Lion Safari and this year we are going to Stratford to see Guys and Dolls.

What a great idea in lieu of Father's Day. I haven't been to Stratford since I was a teen in high school, when our English class went to see a Shakespeare play. Always said we wanted to go back after we were married but for some reason, we never did :confused3.

Good luck with the job search, I know how you feel I had to get a new job after 25 years with the same company and it is daunting. Let your talent, experience and good looks win them over

Hope this weekend isn't too bad for you, I'm sure Steve will give you a nice big bear hug from your Jake

Oh dear, if I have to rely on my looks at all, my search is undoubtably doomed :crazy2:.

I did get the chance to talk with Jake multiple times over the course of the day, which was super nice. I know he missed spending the day with me as much as I missed spending it with him. We've made plans to celebrate at the end of the month, assuming we get back home to visit as scheduled :thumbsup2.

*hugs* I'm sure Jake will miss you on Mother's Day too. Yes, it was much quicker than the lawyers anticipated ::yes:: .... and quite a surprise when I checked the mail.

As for the pay scale....its definitely been an eye opener to see what administrative positions are paying here to start. MUCH lower than back in Ontario (though cost of living is lower here, too....so maybe it all relative in the end). But you're absolutely right: I'm fortunate to be in the position I'm in. I'm much more concerned about getting a job I enjoy versus one that pays top dollar. Now to have the faith and patience needed to wait for that "right job" to come along.

Good luck with the job search! I'm sorry it's been stressful

Thanks Joanna :goodvibes.

Awe, hugs to you Gina! I'm sure you will do great wherever you end up. They will love you!

I know its tough to be away from family, especially around the holidays :sad1:

It's amazing how something like job hunting can bring out every insecurity in a person. I keep reading all the job ads and can't help but see all the ways I don't measure up. It's definitely keeping me humble!

Oh, how I wish we could. But the balance in my savings account tells me that the only traveling I should be doing is back and forth to work.
I'm confident that Steve has something fantastic for you planned for Sunday. I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day.
:flower1::flower1:

It turned out to be very special, despite missing Jake. Steve was so sweet and thoughtful. I guess I better start pondering how to make his Father's Day equally as memorable :scratchin ..... this could be quite a challenge.

Wanted to chime in to let you know that I'm another one here to support you  I feel empathy for you - it is not easy being away from both mother and son at any time never mind Mother's Day, but remember its because you have such a big heart that you feel pain right now. Aw, thank you!! :goodvibes If only blogging actually earned me a paycheck. Now THAT is a dream job I would be happy to work full time at! ::yes::

I am so sorry to hear that you are also in the job hunting stage......its SO not fun (especially when it's forced upon you without warning......hugs to you on that nasty news  , at least I was well aware that my situation was coming) . I hope you find something you love very soon. In the meantime, we can commiserate with each other on those days where we've just had enough.

This is going to be me when all the "no's" start rolling in:

Well I see Steve did REAL good on his Mother's Day present! Today at DS s school I was talking to 2 moms who were going to spend their first Mother's Day in 5 years with their grade 10 ballet boys. They were both so happy!

Yes, Steve quite outdid himself on Saturday!! Bless his heart, I married an incredible man.

For those who are wondering, this was my Mother's Day gift (well, the "big part" of it anyway):

We have christened her "Rosie" on @vrajewski10513 's suggestion. We thought the name suited her PERFECTLY!

I will have to look up Sertoma and Optimists.....those are new organizations for me (must be something we don't have back in Canada, or not in the area I lived in, at least). Now that I have a vehicle, I am excited to see where I can put my talents and time to use in my new community. After spending most of the last four months at home, its actually a bit overwhelming to know I have so many options! Fun, yes, but overwhelming nonetheless .

Sending you love Gina. I'm sorry you are hurting this week. Take all the time you need. I hope things feel brighter soon.

Thank you, my friend. Time to shake off the dust, though, and get back in the saddle (one can only feel sorry for oneself so long). I hope you had a wonderful Mom's Day and were celebrated to the fullest!

Sending a Happy Mothers Day to you! If I could have a second mom, I'd be pick you! (I'm only a few years older than Jake after all).

Okay, things like that just make me want to cry!! Of course, knowing you are just a few years older than my baby also makes me almost want to cry, but for entirely different reasons :rotfl:. You're such a young pup in comparison to this old dog!

My brother and I are very close. In fact in our entire lives we have never had so much as a cross word between us. His wife is the sister I never had. Feel free to brag away......did miss Grumpy Cat end up capturing some top honours this past weekend? You must be so exceptionally proud of your very talented girl!!

What day does Southwest extend their schedule this week? I'm interested to see what prices look like from Michigan.

I'm sure you will find a job quickly. On the volunteering front might I suggest a long term care facility. You will meet some awesome people and find it incredibly rewarding. Sometimes things as simple as a smile or a hello can make someone's entire day.

Ok twist my arm!!!!! I'm bursting with pride over this kid. She was sooooo down on herself because the weekend was not going the way she wanted. Mind you she was doing well but sometimes she has these ideas. She was selected to join a national team which was great (I thought) and she tied for first in 2 other categories(again I though great). She was just so so on it. Anyway, long story short-ish, one of her groups made the final 5 and then competed again for all the marbles. I watched the other 4 and thought they were VERY good and that I was going to have a very unpleasant ride home. GC's group came out last and KILLED it!!!!!! It was such a powerful, mesmerizing performance it left me with chest pains. I'm pretty sure I forgot to breath. In 20+ years I have never seen such intensity and perfection. She was a crying mess afterwards.

SW releases the next block of dates on May 18th. You have to keep an eye on it though because it's subject to change. I've been doing a little reading on the subject of book when released or not. It seems that in the last 1-2 years the general feel is that prices are not the best on opening day any more. So I will look but not book unless it's under $300/person.

Luckily, all is not lost on the job front for me, just a big setback. I work in medical transcription and records, and one of my major clients is unexpectedly out for the rest of the summer due to illness. He'll be back in August, but until then, my salary is pretty much slashed in half. Trying to discern what would be best to do to ride it out until then. I could go cold-calling to try to find another practice who needs help, or I may just try to do odd jobs like childcare. I'll definitely have time to spend with my kids this summer, though the budget will be lean! Thankfully, I had already paid off almost all the expenses for our June Florida trip, so I won't have to cancel :)

It's amazing how something like job hunting can bring out every insecurity in a person. I keep reading all the job ads and can't help but see all the ways I don't measure up. It's definitely keeping me humble!

I have the hardest time with this. I'll read a job description and think I can do that, it would be awesome! Then I start reading the qualifications and I'll have a and b but they really want x, y and z more than just the a and b. Or they want more experience in something than I technically have. Part of it is just my job history, job titles that don't really fit what I did but there not really being a title that would explain it. So you put it in the info about what you did at the job but it only matters if they get past the job description. Then go to my current job where I don't have a job description or a job title, so while I can make something up or guess at what it will eventually be once they decide it's still going to be something that doesn't explain anything or it will give you the wrong impression of what I do. My biggest issue with applying is wasting someone else's time, but then is anything other than the computer and it's logarithms even reading a resume.

Oh, if only I were closer!! I'd take you up on that offer in a heartbeat! I don't suppose you want to relocate your business to Michigan, do you? ;)

If I relocate it will be to somewhere warmer not the same. :-) Somewhere people here talk about? City starts with an O I think?

Actually we are automotive like Steve, but a franchise, but if your new ride is an indication of who he works for, a competing brand. I love love the color btw. Ruby is a perfect name.

Lucky you Gina, what a Mother's Day present :thumbsup2 (does Steve want another wife, my little Kia could do with a facelift :rotfl:)

Hey, ya'll! Gina, I totally don't want to hijack the thread or anything, but I just have to do a little Disney celebrating! My 30-day Fastpass window opened this morning for our June Animal Kingdom day, and I got the Nav'i River Journey at 8:55 a.m.! Woo Hoo! I am so incredibly stoked! I knew ya'll would understand why I'm jumping with joy :)
