Pop Century Room Renovations

Thanks for your comment...my husband and I thought we must be the only crazy ones! I know it's 'each to their own,' but in all honesty, it has never occurred to me to unpack my suitcase on holidays. We all do it differently, don't we?
It's funny, you're all probably thinking "Who needs a stupid dresser!?! We want a row of luggage stands!"

Looking back at the pics in post #1033 the fixed bed is high. I'm betting it's like the cruise ship rooms where raising the bed was to create a spot to slide suitcases under to store. Maybe line up the suitcases you want to live from along the edge under the bed & put things you don't need again until packing up in the center. You can slide the suitcases out & back like a drawer.
Thanks. I definitely thought of storing them under the bed if they fit, but just so I don't have to see them. I guess I'll have to use them as "drawers" for whatever doesn't fit in the dresser and closet. We always used the luggage rack for one suitcase to live out of at Pop, I was just hoping to not have to.

Anyone can confirm which building are being worked on right now? Only building 7 or 7 and 9? I'm still hopping to request a refurbed room in building 9 in August !

The YC rooms that are being refurbished also have some shower only non-accessible rooms. Since it isn't complete, can't say whether it will become a booking option or not.

I will say the sliding glass shower doors are a bit of an odd choice. Maybe shower curtains were being taken home as "souvenirs" along with the pillows and bed runners. But to a pp's point, bathing kids in that tub set up is incredibly difficult.

AGREE.

They have added another surface that will take more time and diligence on Mousekeeping part to keep clean. Curtains/liners are an easy toss and replace. I've stayed at lots of newer hotels lately and while they have made changes to dressers, bedding and more .......... most have maintained the curtain.

I remember my first house (one full bath) and two kiddles ....... and trying to bath them with the sliding doors was a pain. I get it makes it feel bigger but they are certainly making it a struggle for young families who like baths.

While I think there will be plenty of room to store suitcases under the fixed bed, I'm concerned about "living" out of suitcases under that bed. I don't think there's enough room on either side of the bed to easily slide out a suitcase, open it, and easily access the things in it. It seriously looks like there's about 15" of space between that bed and the wall and between that bed and the opened Inovabed. There is probably a little more room for using suitcases as drawers at the foot of the bed, though. I have no doubt that if we stay there, I will store all of our suitcases under that bed. I hate seeing them scattered around the room. Now the challenge for me is to find somewhere to put everything that was *in* the suitcases. :D

True. Good point. There is not enough clearance on either side of the bed to use the suitcases as pull out drawers. I think the foot of the bed will only fit one as a "drawer." Besides the zippers are a pain. (I will be keeping ALL zippers closed tight to prevent insects from stowing away.)

I agree with you. There is no longer the floor space to have suitcases out on the floor all the time...not that there was that much to begin with in the other rooms, but if both beds are queens as some people are claiming, floor space is even smaller now than it used to be.

i borrowed the picture attached from @team weasel 's post.

Should we get a refurb room, I am guessing we will put the 2(?) chairs in the space between the fridge and tv cabinet. We will stand suitcases up and line them up on the other side between the tv cabinet and bathroom wall. That's what we usually did when there was a table in the first spot and dead space in the second. We'd just put the suitcase on the bed when we need to open it.

Where we put our suitcases is still there.
- The wall between TV and bath where the connecting door would be located.
- Under the window but may swap this with space between dresser/fridge and move chairs to window.

And now we can slide some under bed. Honestly I think there is way more storage in room, def not one of my complaints.

Also curious if the chairs stack, I think AoA do.

From my understanding, under the window will be right in front of the coffee center thing. True, you could put them on the floor in front of the connecting door, IF you aren't using the door.

No. The space we used under window is still there. Where the beverage center sits is where the chair at table sat.

Now if you are using a connecting door, that space wasn't there before either so that wouldn't factor.

But there is "5" drawers worth of space in dresser, more functional than before where there was 3, a fridge and some very tight cubbies. The new one seems more workable.

You're right, I forgot about that small bump out. I thought the coffee/fridge was right in the corner.

I think we all have a different definition of storage as it applies to our families and the way we travel. To me, "storage" (in this discussion) refers to places I can easily unpack my clothing and have them in drawers or a closet -- like at home. That would be good and usable storage for me in a hotel room. The new dresser with 3 drawers and 2 shelves is not an improvement over the old dresser in my definition of storage (and again, I know my definition of storage is different than other people's). I would have preferred they had a 6 (or at least 4) drawer dresser and put the safe somewhere else. To me, those 2 shelves in the dresser aren't really convenient for putting clothing on. I see them being a space for storing things that don't need to be in a safe, but you don't want laying out. They're just thin, deep cubbies with a door. The cubbies in the bathroom are awesome -- they provide a dozen places for storing things, but for *me* they don't provide the type of storage space our family likes to use in a hotel room. The empty space under the bed will be awesome for storing our empty luggage -- which is great because the floor of the closet where we used to store our luggage at Pop is now non-existent. In general, there is a lot of storage options in the new rooms, just not the type of storage my family finds convenient.

And in all this discussion about drawer/closet space, I keep forgetting that we haven't stayed at Pop since they put the refrigerators in the rooms, so we were used to 6 fairly large drawers for 4 people which was a good amount of drawer space for us. And we used fabric bins lined up on the shelf of the closet to handle overflow clothing (swimming suits, jeans we never wore <which I finally stopped packing>, etc.). We would have struggled with enough usable space to unpack and store our clothing in the current non-refurbished rooms with 4 adults/teens. We probably would have needed a hanging sweater holder and another bin or two -- but we would have made it work.

Where we put our suitcases is still there.

The chairs at AoA definitely stack (though I've seen a few people insist they couldn't stack them when they stayed there. We had no problem stacking them in 2 different Lion King suites and a Nemo suite.) but those chairs are molded plastic and are meant to be stacked. The ones at Pop are different. It will be nice if they stack, but I'm not convinced they do when looking at them. But I think at worst, you'll be able to turn one chair upside down and rest it on top of the other one (seat to seat).
