DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Hi there. New DISDad here. from Hilton Head, SC. headed to Orlando today for our first trip this year, though its our 6th in 15 months. DD is 2 and has been every time, recognizes the parks and rides and already has a few choice favorites that she knows by sight or sound(Dumbo, Its a Small World, etc.). I'm teaching my princess to Dream Big, to fly like Peter and Tink, and to bounce like Tigger. Figure I'm giving her a decent start to this crazy passion of ours.

Welcome aboard. Norm will be along shortly to let you know about the dues; and the godfather will get here eventually to give you your number.

Okay, fellas, Traditions is under my belt. Have my employee ID and the coveted name tag. Two more days of training over the next two weeks and then it's go time. Was a very interesting day with 79 newbies, nearly all were either Internationals heading for the pavilions or College Program participants. Man, did i feel old. It was very likely i was the oldest one there. One of the facilitators told us that the Disney park in Shanghai's Pirates of the Caribbean is based entirely on the movies because they have no point of reference for the originals. She said it's pretty awesome. Gotta go troll You tube for some video of it. So, if you find yourself at Fort Wilderness on Mon, Tues or Weds, drop by the Cart rental counter and look for Terry, I'll be the tall guy with a little gray hair (not a little gray in my hair, it's all gray, just not much of it).

The week is finally over. Managed 50 hours of work at my 20 hour a week job while on vacation at the other job. And, DW's uncle by marriage died Wed and the funeral was today. He was close with my DW growing up after her parents divorced. He was also a retired police officer, and the police brought out a police radio on speaker and dispatch called his car number and final 10-7 along with the shots and folding the flag.

Yes...we're DVC members also. We're relative newbies...bought in 2008 and home resort is SSR. I know a lot of folks don't like SSR, but we like it because of its more relaxed and quiet atmosphere. I also like that a ride to downtown Disney (still have trouble calling it springs because that just doesn't fit with what it is) is a quick boat ride. I think I mentioned this in one of my posts to different thread, but we found out if we try to do a different park every day, all of us (parents/kids) are testy after the 2nd/3rd day. What we do is park one day, stay at resort and relax and swim next day. We also did the treehouse villas a couple years ago and loved 'em. We also love WL because of the lobby and pool and access to water (the little boats are cool).
.

After Poly this July, we will have stayed at all WDW DVC resorts except Grand Floridean. We've stayed at HHI & VBR. I liked SSR. The problem I had with was that it is more expensive than my Boardwalk view, and I can't walk to a park. the new DHS may make up for that now. We also travel like you - park one day and resort the next. The resorts are so amazing and I want to spend time enjoying them.

Little known fact their Normie! The brew-masters at the Munich style lagers we love so much didn't have access to Grapefruit until the early 20th century, but if they did they would have put it in their beer. (Hmm... that part may actually be true..) So they used the next best thing they had for their summer recipes.... beets, and that is the origin of bitter beer face.

Thanks Cliff with that little known beer fact.

That's got to be February in the Calendar. Or the face when looking at budgie smugglers
.

I'd be more concerned you would need at AED to restart your heart if you saw me in budgie smugglers". :scared1:

Top O the Mornin Dads! May you all have a wonderful Father's Day weekend! Enjoy the family this weekend and make sure they wait on you all weekend.

One has a swim meet and the other a tennis tournament. Maybe I'll see them, maybe not.

Welcome. Dues are payable in dole whips, bacon, beer, or cake. You mail 820 of them to me and then I send to all the guys.

We took my youngest when she was 15 months, and haven't missed a year since. She's a teenager now.

Hey guys,

Been away for a while dealing with a crappy weekend and week. Nothing serious, just one thing led right into another. Looking forward to this weekend. DD has an overnighter with a friend from school so I plan to just enjoy the night and tomorrow morning just chilling. Not sure if she will be going tagging on Sunday so no big plans for Fathers' Day. May drive down to the Cracker Barrel in Florida City for breakfast with or without the kid.
.

Cracker Barrell sounds fun. By the way, our city passed an ordinance that we can now serve beer and liquor on Sunday. So, if you find your way up to the bourbon bar, we can have some fun.

We're going to be headed back to the most magical place on earth in Sep...already mentioned that.

I'm soliciting ideas/opinions/etc. about F&W. We won't be on the dining plan unless that changes, so I'm trying to get an idea of other folks opinions and experiences (good or bad) regarding F&W.

We did the full F&W once. I like trying different things, but now, we just do drinks at most of the countries and have our favorite places for snacks. Plus, Via Napoli is a must do each trip to Epcot.

I'm a dis dad. Found myself chuckling (mostly at how many fit me) at the criteria.
I'm also a dis granddad since taking my DS, DIL and DGSs to WDW back in February.
I'm in Atlanta suburb.

Trying to find out the criteria to join, but I guess it's like the super secret handshake. :rotfl:

Morning all. Oldest at swim meet with DW. Getting ready to drive youngest to tennis tournament. You all have a good day.

pssst: Want to buy a DISDad shirt? It will help a brother DISDad out, too.

 CBO Randall. You post three times today, and now there are ads for Internet dating on my screen here at the Disboards. What have you been doing with that computer? :lmao:

Mornin' guys. Figured I'd stop by to say hello before the weekend really hits and things get busy at work. Happy Father's Day to everyone. I hope you get lots of bacon and good beer.

Home from tennis and swim. Youngest won first singles match 6-3, 6-2, but lost 2nd singles match, 4-6, 2-6. She was tired for the 2nd match. The other player was a real jerk, and I could tell she inherited it from her mother. She'll have a doubles match tonight and a singles consolation match in the morning.

Oldest cut over 10 seconds off her 200m free time and competed in the remainder of the 200 events that she didn't have times posted for.

Cool on first match. Congrats! Sucks on 2nd match. I never have understood why some people are royal b*ttheads when it comes to sports. I'm competitive, but it is just a game after all and it's supposed to be fun. When it stops being fun is the time you should stop.

10 secs is a really good improvement. Props to her. :woohoo:

Thank you sir. The shirts look cool and I will take a better look when I'm on my computer vs. tablet.

Well done!

Happy Father's Day dads. No boating today so we had a late breakfast at the Barrel. The place was mobbed and I figured it would be at least a half hour wait but were seated within 10 minutes.

They gave her bacon when she asked them to leave it off so it was a win for me. Sometimes it's good to have a vegetarian as a dining companion.

Blurry photo of her and her meal.

All in all a good Father's Day.

Woo Hoo, I am on my way up there. Well after a nap.

Congrats to both. Ten seconds off her PR is extraordinary. Ran into plenty of spoiled kids and jerk parents when DD played sports. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
