Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

Okay, so only you guys will appreciate my disappointment.

On Monday, we missed our connecting flight in Charlotte, on the way back from a non-Disney vacation. Today's direct flight from Charlotte to Toronto was full, so we were on standby for it and confirmed on a connecting flight to Toronto by way of Orlando, with a really tight layover. American Airlines had been brutal for delays and such this trip, so we weren't confident that we'd actually make our connection in Orlando and be able to get home. I was starting to worry...wasn't keen on our travel day stretching to three, as two was bad enough.

However, DH looked at me and said "well, if we miss the flight and get stuck in Orlando, can you call and see if you can get a night at Beach Club? Maybe we could have dinner at Biergarten and wander World Showcase for the evening."

I've never been so disappointed to get a standby spot on a "better" flight before. Yeah, I'm now at home...but I could have been at BC!

Sorry you got on your flight home. A quick unexpected disney trip would have been amazing.

Only two more sleeps until checking into the BC for the first time!!! Literally over the moon with excitement.

Looking forward to using the secret door but that's a bummer YC guests seem to be unable to unlock it.

Are you seeing that reported elsewhere? I haven't seen that definitely posted here yet- just that the door now appears to be locked now and the inquiry about whether a YC magic band will open it. Still waiting for someone to test it out.

:goodvibes

The secret door on the right hand side of the wedding pavilion is working fine, is that the one you mean?

When SAB closed, due to lightning in the area, two lifeguards came around to the BC's Quiet Pool and told everyone in the pool that they had to get out. Of course, there are no lifeguards stationed at the Quiet Pool, so there is no way of always controlling access during threatening weather. Though there are locks on the gates at the Quiet Pool. I have never noticed the gates being locked.
We would rather be safe than sorry, I'm glad the lifeguards check all the pools when they need to evacuate them. I've seen my Dad struck by lightning twice it's really not something to experience especially in a body of water.

No, the one at the Beach Club near room 1501. Close to the International Gateway. It would make for a long walk to the Yacht Club, BUT, if the weather is wicked hot or if it is raining, or if a YC guest wanted to go to the BC Marketplace or lobby, this would be a great way to get into the building.

::yes::

I will be staying at the YC 9/19 - 9/24. Any updates with construction. This is my first time staying at the YC and any help with room location requests or helpful info during refurbishment phase is greatly appreciated!!!:worship:

The most recent updates are in post #1 of this thread.

 Was that twice at one time or on two separate occasions? :scared1:

Used that door just yesterday to get to EPCOT during a severe thunder storm.

The exit/entrance at the BC that I like to use, when Epcot is in my plans, is at the Quiet Pool. Those doors are open 24/7 and located right next to the single elevator. Being only about a 1-2 minute longer walk than the "secret" door, it's still much closer than the main entrance of the resort, when coming from/going to Epcot. Its location is also very clear cut, for those of us who have some navigation challenges winding their way through the corridors to/from the "secret" door. :)

I have also found using this door allows a shorter walk from the BC to the FriendShip boat, boarding at Epcot, rather than walking all the way over to the YC/BC dock. The ride to HS will be a little longer, since the next stop, before YC/BC, is the Boardwalk, but the time spent will be close, if factoring in the extra walk time to the dock at YC/BC.

Is it shorter to take the bridge by Swan and Dolphin or go through Boardwalk to get to Hollywood Studios? Is there a shortcut?

I also have a family member struck and agree completely.

That depends, are you leaving from YC or BC? If YC, yes, it is shorter to use the bridge by S&D. If BC, it is shorter to use the bridge to BWI/BWV. The shortcut when using the BWI route is to cut through the breeze way on the Villa side near the Clown Pool. Walk around the left side of the pool and out to the walkway to DHS. There is no shortcut from the S&D bridge side. You would pick up the DHS walkway midway across the bridge at the back of the Boardwalk entrance near Jellyrolls.
