DisPOP Nickelodeon Episode!

I'm not a frequent poster on the boards, or even a frequent viewer of Dis POP, but when I heard in Dis Unplugged housekeeping that Ryno and Craig were doing a Nickelodeon show, I had to tune in...and I just wanted to say a big thank you to both guys for that AWESOME episode!!! I was born in 1984, and the discussion of the Nick Toons and Nick at Nite totally brought me back to my childhood and teen years (yes, I too watched Nick Toons beyond the developmentally appropriate age, though one never outgrows Nick at Nite!). I didn't watch a lot of the later cartoons, maybe because I was getting older, and maybe because I was a girl and from what I perceived at the time, some of the newer shows didn't seemed to feature females as much (ie: Aah! Real Monsters or Rocko's Modern Life), but I did love Rugrats and Doug.

I'm so looking forward to your discussion of the non-animated shows - those were probably my favorites. Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, Clarissa Explains it All - great stuff! I also loved Bug Juice, but maybe that was on the Disney Channel? And of course the game shows were impossible not to watch; my brother and dad were actually on an episode of Wild and Crazy Kids once...good times! Great work, and I can't wait to see what's next! I forgot how good Ren and Stimpy was for it's time, before the likes of Southpark. Like Ryno I grew up without cable, so a friend would tape episodes for me and I would drive my parents nuts hogging the VCR.

It's pretty nice being able to hear Ryno and Craig talk without be talked down to by Master Pete. This show is right up my wheelhouse being a nineties kid. Just keep the old guys away because they're just bitter and out of touch.

I hope they get paid, because there's no way I'd stick around the way Pete talks to people.

I was/am a HUGE fan of Nickelodeon and will definitely have to check these episodes out. Did any of you hear something about SNICK coming back on TV? I thought I read that somewhere. I know that you can find some of the old cartoons on Teen Nick late at night but this was news to me.

I thought it was a about three or four years ago when nick brought back the orange couch and did a two or four hour block called the 90s are All That and each week they aired two classic shows and would rotate out the shows

Also loved Nick at night. I learned about it at one my dad's old friends who was called red or big red. lol

Awesome episode Ryno & Craig! I really appreciate it. It was like shining a light on years of my childhood I had forgotten about. I was born in 77, so my best memories really start with shows like Pinwheel and You Can't Do That On Television. I just can't stress how important YCDTOT was for me. I watched it religiously. After listening to R&C's show yesterday, my dw and I watched You Can't Do That On Television episodes on YouTube all night. It was like seeing best friends you grew up with. So cool.

Nick at Nite really shaped me as well and my love for old TV shows. I grew up with Patty Duke, Dobbie Gillis, Dick Van Dyke, Donna Reed, My 3 Sons and so many others. I remember when I Love Lucy was added to the programming. That was a huge deal for me. Easily my favorite show of all time, I had seen most of the episodes by then on TBS. Nick at Night allowed me to catch every episode in order pre-DVD. I remember creating a spreadsheet with every episode and looking forward to those holy grail episodes I hadn't yet seen.

Thanks again for the nostalgia R&C. It felt light Ego taking a bite of ratatouille.

As a Canadain, I remember You Can't Do That On Television quite fondly and the phrase from the show to get slimed was "I don't Know." Thye would also dump water on anyone that said Water most of the time it was after they got slimed. Any time they would slime someone they usually would have plastic out on the set and the person being slimed was usually bare foot.

I was born in '78 but we didn't have cable when I was growing up (we also still had rotary phones - my parents weren't big into technology) so I missed out on much of the Nick stuff and was out of the loop when my friends would talk about the show

I did make a point to get copies of Ren & Stimpy though - but other than that much of what was discussed was pretty foreign to me. Still enjoyed listening though

I was just coming on to post pretty much what you did. These Nick Shows are my first time listening to Dis Pop and I'm hooked. I was born in 82 and loved so many of those shows. Hearing about them again was such a happy trip down memory lane. It also reminded me I may want to torture my kids with "are you afraid of the dark ". Can't wait for the game show episode!! I have also really loved the Nickelodeon Dispop episodes! Between me (born in 82) and my little sister (born in 94) I have seen all of the shows you have talked about so far and it has been a blast rehashing some of the old greats from my childhood. The very best were, of course, Salute your shorts, Hey Dude, Pete and Pete, Are you afraid of the Dark, Clarissa, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko, Rugrats and Doug.

Funniest thing-last year at the Disneyland Halloween party I saw a guy dressed as Quail Man from Doug. I think I was the only one who knew what he was with his sweater vest, tightie whities on the outside of his shorts and a belt on his head. It was classic.

I can't wait for the next installment. Super Sloppy Double Dare was the thing in my house when I was little. I am sure my mom will never forget the time my older sister, my neighbor and I decided to make our own version of the game in the kitchen with all of the left overs we didnt like. My moms quiet and taciturn boyfriend agreed to babysit us that night-as you can imagine they broken up shortly after thinking that we behaved that way all the time. Looking back I feel like I should call my mom and apologize. However, Double Dare rules!

I LOVED this episode! I am a huge Nick fan and was so excited to hear their opinions on the 90s era of cartoons, its what I grew up with. I'm too old for Nick now but, guilty as charged, I do watch a couple of their new shows like The Loud House and enjoy them. Would love to hear them talk about that, too.

These are the episodes where the viewer learns "a very special lesson" from the show, like why drugs are bad or why it's bad to get in a car with a stranger - these episodes of sitcoms were always so blunt and terrible, and usually unintentionally hilarious. "This Friday, on a very special Family Matters..."

Step By Steps two-parter was my favorite ABC show that went there!
Such a treasure of all the pro-shot stuff of attractions and stuff. This was pre-internet, so you had either TV stuff, or your crappy camcorder videos you took.

And I was recently reminded that they crossed over with Boy Meets World on that trip. They aired the episodes back to back, and the characters just happened to be at the parks at the same time, too!

And who could forget when Roseanne went there? Dan just HAD to get his beer at Epcot

Since there isn't a separate thread for the recent TGIF show I thought I would add something for the Canadain perspective. I actually don't remember ever seeing any of the bumpers btween shows with varous cast mnbers talking about them. That may have had to do with the way tv shows get aired in Canada though. For example each of the shows in the TGIF block could have aired on difrent Candain networks and when a show is aried on an American netwok at the same time the Cnadain feed is substituted for Canadian content. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simultaneous_substitution
