January/February 2018 discounts, who else is in?

Lots of TAs are pretty much saying that this release/offers are lame.

Have there been any non-lame offers this year? Obviously they have cornered the market on people staying on-property with the new fastpass+ system and it being so difficult to do fastpass without staying onsite. But has that made this much of a difference with room discounts? I think park attendance is down, but obviously they are making up for it by having record attendance in their hotels without having to offer the type of discounts they have in the past.

I applied the gift of magic online, then had to call to add on the visa discount.

So, the Visa discount is better than the Gift of Magic discount. I modified a current reservation at CSR. Should I call and ask them to apply a Visa discount?

Yep, SPD is showing up now, but it's about $150 more than what I already have booked (including the same dining plan). o_O

The Visa deal ended up being about $300 cheaper for me than PSD online for the same room at GF.

SPD now showing online for Canadians but currently nothing available at the resort I want. Choosing not to change resorts as the discount to move isn't worth it personally. Going to keep checking for availability to open up!

What resort are you looking for?

It's all so confusing unless you have the time or a TA. I'm at work :-) and just can't focus on what's right for us...package vs. room only. And as someone else pointed out, some room types/resorts are only available with certain discounts. I'm sure the easiest thing to do is call, or work with a TA who's willing to do all the legwork for you, but I'm not working with a TA and I don't have the time to call. But on the other hand, I'm afraid if I don't book something right this minute, that all the good stuff will be gone by the time I get home tonight and can call.

As another data point, I booked a standard room at AKL. The first night was 25% off and nights 2-7 worked out to 33% off. I thought it was a little weird so I jumped on it and will decide later what to do.

ETA: through website, from USA

Sad about POR. Can book standard room for almost $50 a night cheaper than booking under the RO discount since it requires a garden view upgrade. Have to wait until 4EST to call about visa discount but assuming that would only apply to garden view as well?

Lesson Learned through all of this:

I am SO GLAD I followed my gut and booked what I wanted prior to the offer being released!! Some say to wait as it will mean Disney is less likely to offer deals but honestly, if I'd waited I would have saved less than $100 for an 8 night stay and still not got the resort I wanted.

In future I will continue to book what I want and HOPE that an offer comes along to help me out.

Feeling bad for those who waited and now cannot find availability for their dates. :(

While that certainly wasn't the advice 3+ years ago you are definitely correct now. The deals are so insignificant and require upgrades in room category or park hoppers etc that it erodes the savings.

Just got Ft Wilderness with SPD, on the phone. $6053.69 for 5 ppl, all "adults" in Disney's eyes, with 4 day base tickets and DxDDP. The best I could do online with the Gift of Magic package was $6477.90.

I'm still a bit disappointed that CBR wasn't available, since that was DS's first choice and having two rooms/a second bathroom would be nice, but we've stayed in a pirate room before and don't want to do that again. Paying the highest rates in the resort - only a few bucks cheaper than rack rate on a standard room with SPD/more than standard rack rate with GoM - to be in the worst location feels like a sucker's bet to me. And since we're driving, the campground should be fun. We've never stayed there because we usually fly and the kids would want their bikes/scooters/skateboards if we're "camping".

Could not get anything cheaper compared to my existing reservation at All Star Movies. She couldn't even get the Disney Visa discount to apply for anything.
