Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

This is a random question that will make me sound like a Poly newbie, but I generally have no idea.

If I get stuck with a middle floor room (no balcony/patio), do the doors slide open so you can get fresh air in and "be outside"? Or are they sealed windows?

Thanks!

Candace! Hi, it's Kari (i_heart_the_mouse from the old RC thread years ago). Long story short, I lost my password to that account and couldn't get it back because my old email got hacked so I just made a new account.

I'm glad to hear you got to try the Poly, but sorry it didn't live up to your expectations. So you are a GF girl now, huh? I do love it there as well :cloud9:(especially RPC!). We took a few years off of Disney completely, but finally went back this June and stayed OFF SITE :scared:. Never again. Awful. I can't wait to return to my beloved Poly next spring. I don't think we will ever go back to APs with 3-4 visits a year as we have really enjoyed traveling all over the country and trying new places, but maybe we will get back to once a year or every other year. That Disney Magic is hard to beat

Anyway, thanks for the tip about the trash can! Hope you and fam are all doing well! I can't believe your DS is 2. Wow. Time flies! I think last time we spoke you were preggers! Nice to "see" you again, friend.

P.S. Is the RC thread still a thing? I tried to find it but didn't have luck. Maybe it moved. I'm feeling the itch to switch to a BC/Poly split. lol. I probably won't though because I'm already afraid of getting connecting rooms once much less twice.

P.P.S. Sorry for the hijack! :duck:

OMG!!!! HOW ARE YOU?!?!?! :goodvibes

So happy to hear from you!!! Yeah, I finally got to the Poly after all these years, LOL. Don't get me wrong, it was wonderful. It's just not my favorite. I just loved everything about the GF and wish I could live there :rotfl2:

We haven't tried RPC, but someday. :cloud9:

Yes, DS is going to be 3 shortly (in January). I cannot believe it, time flies so quickly. He's a big Disney lover just like the girls now, with 3 trips under his belt already!!

Well, I am glad you are back to the boards!

Oh, and the RC thread got moved awhile ago over to the resort community boards. People still pop in on there from time to time, but it's not nearly as active as it used to be. :sad2: I miss those days!

We had the cabana all day on 10/15. We had the center one and ceiling fan still not working. I never did see anyone show up for one on the end I took picture of cause it was all fresh.

We left our stuff and went to lunch at kona then got to come right back knowing we had a spot.

There is an outlet on the back pole to charge your phone etc.

No shower at the pool but bathrooms were clean. I changed in/out of my suit a few times . I love that pool. I might have taken a few winks on that comfy couch too. You could hear children playing mixed with Hawaiian music:cloud9:

For the price having it all day was nice . Our ME was 3;45 and we left it at 3;30 for the bus stop.

It was a bit sunny before 11am but shady most of the day.

I would do again for sure!

That looks amazing! I'm glad you enjoyed it. We reserved one from 3:00-7:00 one day during our trip, but now I'm wishing we had it starting a bit earlier. What are the hours if you book an all-day reservation?

So for many many years I watched the fireworks from the beach or from Hawaii. We got back from the parks and could hear the sounds so we walked towards the lava pool . Many people were sitting on that grassy area and along the walkway in front of cc's. We watched for a few with music too. Then we headed for our room . I was so surprised the marina had a great view and music too! Compared to gf's marina this was a nicer spot , just no seating.

The marina area used to be one of our favorite spots to watch too. In fact, when we were there a couple of weeks ago (after dinner @ 'Ohana), we watched from there again. Only two other folks in the area and the sound was great! We occasionally viewed from the lounge in Hawaii, but always preferred to be outside if the weather permitted.

Can you get the twilight feast delivered to one of the tables at the pool - if we are lucky enough to snag a table? I really want to try it but I don't want my room to smell like food smell. Or if not, if I rent one of those cabanas can you get it delivered there?

hi all! Arrived today. Got room view we wanted, I'm so happy. I had to go to check in, but they were just letting me know it wasn't ready yet. We got our our lei's, everyone so wonderful. We got into our room a bit ago, bell services had our luggage up in 5 minutes and housekeeping had our extra hangers in probably 8! :)

Here's our view - Fiji, standard.

There are no bad questions when it comes to Poly... ask away!

Yes, the 2nd Floor/No Balcony rooms have a full sliding glass door that opens. It’s the same size/type as the 1st floor/patio or 3rd floor/balcony doors... there’s just a Juliet rail immediately on the other side of the door. (Note, this comment applies to the resort side rooms; the DVC side rooms (villas) have a normal balcony on the second floor just like the third floor).

The attached pic may help. Editorial commentary, while I have always steered away from the 2nd floor rooms myself... I did get one earlier this year and frankly didn’t find it all that bad. It wasn’t nearly the ‘end of the world’ that I had made it out to be in my head. :-)

Agreed! We got “stuck” in a 2nd floor room once and it ended up being just fine.

I found this interesting. I ran up to 3rd floor of our staircase and found a hidden smoking area. I like this location. Smoke will go up and not incomvenice those that don't like the smell. Mom would have loved this view too. The building was small and the elevator in the center so to skip this area would not be be hard to do either.

This reminds me ... I enjoy an occasional cigar when on vacation. Where is a smoking area I can use at Poly ? I will be in Hawaii Building.

Check the map of the resort. It is marked on there. My last stay with mom(smoker) was prior to the oasis pool refurb and it is now different. I tried looking quick on web but couldn't find current map but have to get back to work.

FOUND this.

It looks like you would head out main doors of Hawaii and just go left. That was spot mom had. I just don't know if inside or outside of the new fence.

I will be back to WDW in a month. If I visit poly (likely) Ill check if no one else posts.

I just did the online checkin and it doesn't give a choice for room selection, it this part down?

The last time I put in a room request I did it via phone about a week before checking in to the property. Had a lovely convo with a CM who claimed it was his responsibility to put in requests. It worked well for me: I requested a 3rd flr Fiji marina view room and that's what I got. I'll see what happens for my next request which will be by room number.

Question for you experienced Poly people: How important is it really to have a longhouse near the GCH if you are trying to minimize walking time after a long day at the parks? Meaning, is the Polynesian campus big enough to really have to worry about walking distance, or should I focus on other room request (like 1st/3rd floor)?
Standard room.
Personally, I don’t think it’s that bad. I prefer to request one of the TTC side so I can be closer to walk there.

I'm starting to get nervous about my upcoming trip. I've never stayed at the Poly before but I feel like I'm seeing tons of negative reviews lately. I'm not expecting Four Seasons level of quality but seeing reviews about dirty sheets, flooding showers, dirty elevators with gross stuff all over certainly doesn't sound appealing. Are these just overly critical people or am I really only paying for the monorail access to stay here and need to expect that things may be subpar around the resort?

You do pay for more than that -- the pools, beach view of castle, dining, theme. But Disney Deluxe is not luxury, it's about theme and proximity more than luxury.

A lot of the gross stuff left around is other guests, and they do have a hard time keeping up with guest debris even in cases where they shouldn't.
