I love credit cards so much!

I think I’m marginally hooked! I’m feeling bad that I’m not working on a minimum spend requirement LOL. Call me foolish, but I’m not ready to delve into business cards. That said, from all my reading, it seems the Chase Sapphire Preferred might be the card for me. Here are the details:

I’m 4/24
SW card at 11 months
Mattress Firm at 9 months
JC Penney at 7 months
Another SW card that was opened April 3, 2018

One article I read says I may be denied if I’ve applied for a Chase card in the past 90 days, which I have.

Recently (2 weeks ish) lowered credit limits to be less than 50% of income.

Excellent credit scores (upper 700’s).

Credit Karma says I have very good approval odds.

Now, the other thing is that maybe I should have DH open the Sapphire. He’s 3/24, but all have been 7 or 8 months and “little” things (Wells Fargo for a furniture purchase, Fleet Farm and JC Penney). Credit Karma says his odds are “good.” I somewhat wonder if it’s because he has very few cards in his name with fairly young history.

The only thing with DH is I’m kind of waiting for the new SW card and may want to try to open that and the SW business card for him to get the companion pass.

I’m so terrified of making the wrong decision!

I appreciate any and all advice!

So your only concern with a CIP for you is Chase Shutdown...Can you list specifically all the cards (both personal and biz) you have gotten over the past 24 months with Month and Year you were approved?

Ok this is what I have:

CSR (now Freedom) - 11/16
Chase Marriott - 5/17
Chase SW Business - 6/17
Chase SW Plus - 6/17
AMEX SPG - 12/17
Chase Marriott Business - 2/18
AMEX SPG Business - 4/18

Would I be OK to try for CIP or wait a while.

@gottalovepluto, sorry another question. Discover is one of the bonuses I was going to apply for, so I could also use that as my hub?

And to clarify, the ACH number is what Memory Bank shows on my online account, instead of the account or routing number for some weird reason.
I will get this all down pat and leave you all alone LOL!
:) all good! Discover bonus is on a savings account right? Savings accounts make bad hubs because after 6 withdrawals in a month you will be charged a fee, government regulations on savings accounts so no getting around it.

i wouldnt count on returning of starpoints... Based on what ive read, the SPG card line stopped offering points in March because of the complications of earning Starpoints bonus after August 1st. It makes sense that way on why marriott rewards points are still offered but not Starwood.

??
Not sure where you are going @Albort? I was going to buy 30K star points to get a Marriott nights and flights package? On August 1 any star points will become Marriott rewards points 3-1 anyway. Then, my SPG cards will earn 2 points instead of 3 but won't these be Marriott points?

If I'm confused please sort me out - I'll appreciate it!

Yeah, I thought about that, but was thinking that same Discover maybe offers a checking too? Just so I don't have to open another bank to do all this LOL.

So I joined the SW booking party this morning and bought tix for our trip to the Bay Area for Thanksgiving week. Like others, I saw some of the cheaper fares already *sold out*. I managed to do pretty well by having us fly home late on the night of 11/24 instead of on 11/25. I was also able to use 3 sets of travel funds, and $1k in SW gift cards I had bought at Office Max with our CIC. There was still a slight balance owed, so I used my Amex Plat for 5x and some progress on my retention offer MSR. I also bought air for our Dec. Chicago trip. I actually ended up purchasing American for that one. United and American both have nonstops from Boise to Chicago. United was stupidly expensive. I was actually thinking I'd end up booking SW for Chicago too even though we couldn't go non-stop so I could re-book if prices drop, but the AA nonstops were cheaper roundtrip than SW with stops, so I just decided to pull the trigger on AA. I was the only one with an AA frequent flyer account due to some rare prior travel on AA, but I opened accounts for DH and the kids in case we end up flying AA more.

Sorry, I was under the impression that you were waiting for the spg card to go back to spg points instead of statement credit. Was just mentioning that that most likely won't happen.

4/24
4/12, 2/6, 1/3.

apply in July 2018 imo. in july, u be @ 2/12, 1/6.

Thanks. I will wait until then. In the meantime need something for carpeting purchase. How easy or hard is it to get Barclay AAdvantage Business (thinking maybe both DH and I could get this as you get the points after 1st purchase) and Citi AA Business. I know nothing of these cards.

Next card question.
Looking for a business card that is not American Express and not issued by chase.
Any ideas?
Trying to lay off chase after getting a few and do most of spend at Costco for cheap gas and groceries. So want a Visa actually.
Otherwise I would need to purchase visa gift cards but I have heard AMEX doesn’t allow for MSR. THanks.

I personally have not found the other banks to be "business" friendly.

Regarding Visa Gift Cards with AMEX...if you can buy them at a grocery store that doesn't pass along Level 3 data you would be fine. My local grocer Giant Eagle doesn't do L3 so I buy lots of VGCs there with AMEX, I still add things to the order (or sometimes will pay with $1 and some random change) to keep from having suspicious charges of $204.95 from showing up.

Assuming you wait 2 days until June 2nd...then you would actually be 2/12, 1/6 and 0/3. The credit agencies date everything as of the first of the month in my experience. That said...if you can wait until July that would be even better. Your risk of "shutdown" is small on June 2nd...and VERY small come July 1.

Currently, all mastercards are fee free up to $250 until a certain date(im not sure what date). You can probably send multiple $250s.

If you schedule your payments by the end of today, you should be able to do up to $500 (drops to $250 tomorrow). Anything scheduled to arrive by 9/30 goes free. I noticed today that Wells processed my checks fine (I had to send multiple due to the $500 limit).

Rumor has it Plastiq is going to stop accepting personal Visas completely, presumably because Visa wants them to process everything as a cash advance. This could take effect as soon as tomorrow.
That would make it much harder for me to double dip the Sapphires at the end of the year :sad1:

Oh no, at least it says it should only affect Visa personal cards. This means CIP is still safe, at least for now.
