Saw Isn't It Romantic today. It was very funny. It's a good movie for a girls night but there were guys laughing too and I think most guys would like it because it's not a typical rom com. It also didn't drag or have any unnecessary stuff which was nice after some of the longer dramas I've seen lately.

Also the new men in black movie looks like it'll be good.

You can transfer URs to Marriott and Hyatt.

Just be aware you will be taking multiple expressways or lots of stoplights through the city to get there from UC.
When I use Google maps, it estimates 1 1/2 hr drive UC to the Best Western on Enterprise if that’s the one.
I think that's because of traffic right now. Earlier today it only showed it taking 45 minutes

I had the thought today that... instead of calling DCL to transfer to Costco... why not just book through Costco? Like there is literally no reason in this case to not do this, duh. And then I looked and they don't show aft rooms on the deck/category I want right now on Costco. That would be too easy.
Sometimes they have more than what’s on the Costco website because Costco actually calls Disney to book. If it’s on the DCL website as available, Costco should be able to book it.

Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s not realistic. Like ever. But you also have to take into account the gridlock leaving UC after a Blackhawks game. It takes me an hour to get home and I’m half that distance.

Hi All, I came across this thread just a few days ago, very new to this and would really appreciate some advice. Our current situation - we have a few cards (MPE, BoA and CF) that were opened many, many years ago, only recent one is Chase Disney Visa (opened 10/18). Credit score at 829. We do a bit of travel every year, multiple short trips to Disney each yr (prefer to fly SW), occasional international travel to visit family overseas (usually Lufthansa/United to Munich), one Etihad trip to Middle East last yr but this type of trip would be more rare for us. Looking for advice on travel CCs. I have a 100k MR offer from AMEX Plat (offer expiring in April) but also looking at CSR or possibly pairing the AMEX Plat with CSP as we do quite a bit of dining out and I have concerns about AMEX not being accepted everywhere overseas. This would mean earning both MRs and URs, not sure I like the idea as I would prefer to have points in one place, any thoughts on this? I like the Amex Platinum perks - would use the $200 travel credit on SW gift card - does this still work? - we use uber (or uber eats), like the hotels status and lounges but I also like the 1.5 CCP that CSR would provide if booking through the Chase portal. No issue with AF although the AMEX Plat $175 AU fee is pretty steep - I assume I would be able to put spouse and kids (ages 16 and 13) as the 3 AUs? We have a major remodel project coming up so no issue with the MSR for either AMEX Platinum or CSR. The question is - what card or cards would you recommend in our situation? AMEX Plat (and possibly also CSP) or just go with the CSR? Any cards out there that would be a better fit? TIA

Welcome....a lot of us here start with Chase cards since they have a 5/24 rule....they will not approve you for a new card if you’ve opened 5 personal cards from any issuer over the last 24 months....

From what you said it looks like your 1/24 with a great credit score...does your DH also have the Disney or any other cards opened in the last 24 months ?

Would you consider opening business cards...if you’ve done any selling on eBay, etc..or thinking about it....any kind of side work you could apply for the Chase CIP...it’s has the highest UR bonus 80k after spending $5k the first 3 months...you could open one...then refer your husband for one (20K UR referral bonus)....with both cards you’d have a total of 190 URs between the two of you.
If you wanted to stay with personal cards you could each open the CSR...after the $4k MSR you’d have 108k URs

If you fly SW a lot the companion pass may be of value to you as well

Kind of :offtopic: but I’m working on taxes. I have a rental property, which never makes a profit. I charge $2500in rent. Taxes and insurance insurance are about $2500. This year I put a new roof on the house for $3600. Do I really need to send a 1099 to the contractor? For those of you who have one or two properties, is this necessary? TurboTax thinks so...

Hey There and Welcome! There is a lot going on in this message...

Something to realize, a lot of the advice we give you will assume that you're looking to jump into the game. That would mean getting multiple cards a year...maybe just 3-4 or even more. If you have a spouse that will play along that can be even more potential cards. If it is not your intent to get that deep, just tell us so we don't keep giving advice that involves numerous cards.

That 100k AMEX offer is one that people yearn for. My advice would be to research AMEX Membership Rewards Points (MRs) to see how you would use them. Some of us struggle to find a viable use for them, others find them to be great! This would use a 5/24 slot from Chase but some find it to be an acceptable use of a slot. @palhockeymomof2 already gave you a decent explanation of the Chase 5/24 rule so I'd read up on that a bit. I would really avoid adding AUs at all costs (especially when they cost money). These AU cards can also add to that person's 5/24 count (another reason to avoid them when possible).

With the Chase Ultimate Rewards program, people seem to have more success getting a great value out of them. One thing to note is that the 1.5cpp you see on the CSR would not work towards On-site Disney trips. That may not be a dealbreaker for you but just keep this in mind. I'll send you a PM about our DISchurners group also!

It is fairly rare to receive the 100k Amex Offer so I would definitely go for this and then the CSR. I understand you are hesitant to have two currencies but I think with your overseas travel MRs are quite useful. Uber eats and Gold status for Hilton/Marriott is also nice. I have 3 people as AUs and if you can, I'd recommend holding off adding them (unless there is a pressing reason) until Amex offers you MRs for adding them (I've received this offer 3 times and can't use it LOL). I will respectfully disagree with SFF-my mother, spouse and DD get a lot of value from being AUs (as do I since it increases amex offers by 3). Your family's traveling style may make AUs not necessary or very nice.

Also, travel patterns vary during different seasons of your life so having two currencies can give you extra flexibility. I have URs, MRs, AA miles, Delta miles, United miles and Marriott points. I'm constantly using them all depending on my travel needs.

The Chase portal is much loved but please remember it's just Expedia and you really need to do your research to discover whether it will actually save you money. URs can also directly transfer to United, SW (and other airlines) as well as hotels and ideally you'd compare the benefit of the portal to direct transfer.

If you can stomach the two annual fees (neither are waived) and two minimum spends, you're in a great position to get both. If you only want one, I'd likely recommend the CSR (although I prefer my Amex, it sounds like you use United and SW enough that it's better for those airlines).

I have the Amex Plat and DH has the CSR and we use them for different things (Amex plat-airfare, Saks credit, hotel status), CSR (other travel, dining when overseas) and they complement each other well.

Seems strange but I don’t know...I have my accountant do our taxes.

I think we’re just gonna stick with our plan and stay at the best western. We’ll just go in knowing it will take awhile to get to the hotel. We booked through chase with our CSR so got a good redemption

I saw that movie last night at a Wine and Movie event at the theatre with some girlfriends. We decided to try a theatre that just put in the recliner seats. And I was actually disappointed in both. It was hard to seen the whole screen in the recliner and I just wasn’t following the story line when she went off to fantasy/dream land. It was funny though at parts. I’ll be sticking big to my regular theatre with stadium seating.

That happened to me. Called Costco and told them what room I wanted. They called dcl, confirmed it was available, and booked it.

You got some great advice already. I make great use of both UR and MR points. When I travel overseas, I only bring the Amex to access the Centurion lounge. I still use the CSR for most purchases when I am out of the country. I (and quite a few others here) use multiple cards in order to take advantage of each cards' bonus categories or benefits. The Amex Plat cards (business and personal) usually stay in the sock drawer. I use both MR and UR to transfer to airline partners and to purchase through their respective portals.

DH is discussing a new job with the CEO of said company. He calls me to fill me in. Starts with "they give me a car." Um, nope, I use the heck out of the hertz points plus the 3x we earn booking the hertz for work every week. That brings me to his next statement..."he also mentioned a company credit card." Double nope. Absolutey not. All these perks are what makes it tolerable that he is out of town 2-4 nights a week and works crazy hours. Keep on searching hun, I can't handle all these changes. Plus, it is in TN. Triple nope.

You tell him! Ain't nobody wrecking your hobby (or keeping you in TN!) :D

Along the lines of dh's jobs, my dh text me the other day that he got a promotion...Went from IT Director to Senior IT Director. He did not get a raise this year so I got hopeful thinking maybe they gave him a raise. LOL, nope no raise, just more responsibility. Gotta love working for a nonprofit:laughing: He really needs to find a new job. Preferably in FL or TX!
