Stay Strong SEPTEMBER WISH Challenge

Thankful Thursday!
I'm thankful that I had my first Workshop Wednesday was a success yesterday. This is a day where a parent/grandparent/relative can come in to have lunch with my kindergartners and then we have a workshop time together. I modeled reading to students and having them interact with the reading as well (talking about the pictures, listening for rhyming words, discussing the vocabulary, etc) then I also showed them on online resource that they can use with their kids at home. I love these days, but I am always a little nervous on the first one because I never know how the parents will react. But this group was amazing! They enjoyed spending the time at school with their kids and really took to my suggestions when reading and were just really open to the whole process. Then they get to take their kids home afterwards and I meet with other kindergarten teachers. We learned about a new assessment that the district is using and we can see the results immediately online. It sorts it for us and pinpoints the exact areas that students are struggling with. It has really helped me to gain momentum and excitement for the school year...which started off a little sluggish after moving school and starting out sick. So thankful to be past that and moving forward!

So I am SO THANKFUL to this woman who was so kind, understanding and helpful when I needed it.
What a blessing that she was there! You have such a positive outlook on it. Such a rough day and you are able to look past that to be thankful for this woman and to come up with a plan to try to pinpoint the ingredient that caused the reaction. Keep at it! It's completely understandable that you'd be nervous about the new cafe tomorrow. Be sure to take an antihistamine along with you just in case. You've got this ;)

@4Mickeys, so glad you are OK!

I have a whole list for Thankful Thursday because MIL and I are headed to the Downton Abbey Exhibit today! I'm thankful that the exhibit has come to Boston, and that we live near enough to get there easily, and that we get along so well (when I hear of many who don't) and enjoy things like this together. :goodvibes

This would be awesome. I just started watching the show last week. I am hoping to have them all done by the weekend. I have about 14 more episodes.

Some great thankfuls so far!

@4Mickeys what a frightening experience, hopefully you'll be able to figure out what triggered it.

I'm keeping with my theme this week... I'm grateful to have next week off. It's been a wild work week, with random stuff coming up out of no where, and I'm really needing to step away and re-group, so the timing is perfect. I'm thankful that it is not forecast to be rainy Saturday, as most of the workshop is planned to be out of doors, and I really need to be out of doors. And I'm thankful that the workshop is out in the country, because I really need to get out of the city. For this stay-cation I have time close to the mountains and time close to the water, which will be a lovely balance. Plus time at home to do stuff. And knit.

Sorry I was a little slow getting going this morning!
@4Mickeys, that must have frightened you! What a blessing that lady was there for you.

I am thankful for this beautiful fall day, that my grandson is over pneumonia-and even though I think I am coming down with a cold, that I can laze around in yoga pants and a Disney t shirt!

Thank you all for the support :)

Aaaahhh its Friday night and I am tucked up in bed ready for sleep - it has been a big week. Today was the last day of term 3 in school here - kids are on 2 weeks break. I will be doing some work next week so many reports to get finalised and plan for term 4! Then I will also have a break - can't wait for that - it is badly needed. Ahhhhh the end of the year is so close. When I went to pick up DS18 from work tonight they had Christmas teatowels, tablecloths and cushions out! Nope not happy I don't want to even think about it.

It has been an interesting week here DS18 has been doing some thinking and soul searching and he is pretty sure he wants to switch degrees at uni. He has wanted to work in game design since his early teens but I think the realities of the job conditions is really setting in for him now that he can have a little more mature outlook on what that means for overall lifestyle. He is looking like moving towards teaching - so hello my teacher friends on here any advice is accepted lol - he is thinking high school or maybe upper primary (which for us here is years 4-6). He says he is okay with letting go of game design which I thought he would be sadder about - but says he is excited about the change - he still has to apply to see if he can get in for next year - which we have 10 days to do - wow nothing like just scraping in! Funny thing is that already DS15 wants to be high school teacher and he is a little miffed as he says now everyone will think he copied his older brother haha. In his application he has to write a 600-1000 word statement on why he would make a great teacher and complete an online questionnaire about his motivation for teaching as part of the process.

Amen!

This has been kind of a crabby-prone week for me, plus some sleepy tiredness, due I think to higher carb consumption than I have had. I've dropped a couple more pounds, so still going in the right direction on that front. And my step count has been up in the desired range most days this week, so that goal is on-track.

Hopefully today will be a calmer work day, then I'm outta here! In addition to my work shop and time in Port Townsend, I'll be doing more moving-things-around and clearing in the house, will probably go see the Downton Abbey movie... it's just going to be a nice relaxing week.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

I’m looking forward to hosting week 4 of September. And it’s shocking to think that October starts next week. That being said, we need hosts again. Looks like we’ll be needing 5 weeks of hosts for October. I’m happy to do week 4 again. Any takers for the other weeks?

There's a line in one of my workouts that is often repeated..."Remember, if you cheat, you are only cheating yourself." Little things, like skipping a workout or having an unhealthy treat here and there, can decrease the effectiveness of any health program. In contrast, the small changes you make on a day to day basis, like choosing a healthy snack or putting a little extra push in your workout, really do add up! For me, when I decided to make a change to a more healthy life-style, it seemed very overwhelming at first. So many things to think about. So I chunked it into smaller pieces. That really helped!

For Motivation Monday, I thought it would be fun to share a motivational quote or picture that really speaks to us. Let's start this week off right...and with a little fun!

Topic Tuesday

I am so good when I'm on a routine. Now that the school year has started, I'm back in a routine. But only during the work week. So I often struggle on the weekend. Part of what helps me is planning ahead. Last weekend, my son had a baseball tournament. Those are good because they get us out of the house. But they are also hard because the first part of the schedule doesn't come out until Thursdays usually. Then the second part of the schedule all depends on how well they do. So we don't know how long we'll be out of the house, etc. So last weekend, I had my shake before we left the house. I packed a hard boiled egg for breakfast, some grapes, cheese, & carrots to snack on. And we had a plan for lunch if we had to stay out longer, so I already knew what salad I was going to get if we were eating out. All of this to help me stay on track. It's not easy. Takes a lot of work and planning. And honestly, sometimes, I just don't have the energy or time to be that prepared. But I know I do best when I plan and prepare. So I started looking for more tips about how to stay on track on the weekend. I did find this article.

What are your tips for staying on track during the weekend (or less structured times)?

I think @Oneanne already mentioned week 1??

And I can take either 3 or 5, whichever is needed most.

I missed yesterday, but love this idea, and happened to take this pic just the other day (I had taken my friend's little ones to open gym time) -

We can't always be perfect, but sometimes, motivation is picking yourself up instead of giving up.

I love that article!

The ones I tend to do are keep almost the same sleeping hours when I can, and try to get in a longer workout - sometimes earlier in the day, so I don't get derailed.

The one I need to get better about is meal prep. I need to start doing things like preparing salad stuff instead of buying the bagged (for health, money, and the planet!)

I think she did too - I think she had a lovely long weekend to enjoy this past weekend - so we will probably hear from her when she is back :)

Well I am guilty of a few of those things and need to take some of the tips on board. I do try to fill up my water bottle and keep it handy - for some reason if its the weekend my tendency to reach for soft drink increases.
