Riviera Sales by the numbers (vs CCV) for 2019 - (December added 1/16/2020)

So if I want a SEP UY I can wait until AUG to buy and still get 2019 points?

Yes, if buying the resorts in active sales. if you want one of the sold out resorts, then they may not have those points and therefore won’t sell them to you, For example, if you wanted BLT, and if through ROFR, they didnt have Sept 2019 points, they won’t sell it to you,

But for RIV or AUl right now, you’d get them. And since MFs are based on calendar year, not UY, buying in August means you pay only 2020 dues from the date in August you buy until the end of the year,

OK, I get it mostly, but I thought we were still in the February 2019 Use Year (not March 2019) until we reach February 1 when the next year's worth of points would be deposited to accounts with a February Use Year. Why the one month jump to March?

I believe they didn’t have Feb 2019 points. No one knows why. You could buy any use year right now and still get 2019 point, except Feb.

It might be that the owner who received that email has a March UY. It was directed to from their guide to them and not a mass emailing.

Correct. They started sales for RIV only including 2019 UY points for March UY on. So Feb UY owners only got 2020 and forward

When I was there last week, the guides were talking add ons at all resorts except HHI and VB. In fact they recommended not adding there due to MF. They would prefer RIV, but they talked adding at SSR, AKL, etc. This was during a members tour.

IIRC DVC has now allowed itself to change the UY of any contract they get back via ROFR so it may now be easier to get the UY you want.

Yes, it’s not about that. It’s about if they have current UY points for what a buyer wants. When they take contracts via ROFR, if they are stripped of current points, regardless if they can change the UY, they won’t be able to sell to someone because they must sell current UY points. With sold out resorts they may not have those points.

I believe that they were not selling points yet in February and I think the time share laws don’t allow them to get points, when the resort was not being sold or registered to be sold. So people who bought feb use year last year missed out on points.

Yep. I wanted Feb to match my BLT (because we were planning to use those 2 home resorts to do split stays), but I didn't want to start in borrowing mode for our Dec 2019 trip, so we got August UY instead. One of the DVC reps said, "you get the same number of points, you will just get them later." 🤦‍♀️

I would rather have more points up front, thank you very much.

Looks like the sales are doing just fine.
I really think the strong sales of Riviera despite the resale restrictions are due to this being the first "Epcot" resort in a long time. The Skyliner provides access to Epcot in a 6-8 minute ride there. All other Epcot DVC resorts are 2042 expiration dates. So I think a lot of people were waiting for a new Epcot resort. Magic Kingdom has had BLT(2060), VGF(2062), Poly(2066) and CCV(2068) as new additions with MK access.

January 2020 Riviera: 181,289 points sold.
January 2019 CCV: 218,382 points sold.

That big of a drop off has to be disappointing for DVC.
From the article:
'Its (Riviera) average during its first 10 months of sales of 108,017 points is more than the initial 10-month averages for the Grand Floridian (106,570-point average), Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows (76,909-point average), and Copper Creek Villas & Cabins (62,267-point average).'

But the 10-month trend looks good.

Yes, true, but Dec 2019 was the highest in like 7 or 8 years. I can not imagine that DVC is disappointed that they sold 181,269. Those are decent sales.

And, since RiVs first 10 months of sales were better than CCV Id say it’s competitve with the last few that were sold.

CCV was selling at the same time as the Poly.

I’m not saying that sales are not good, but you never want to see a drop.

What would happen if Magic Kingdom ticket sales dropped by 13% from January 2019 to January 2020?
