I’m interested in buying dvc for the first time and been doing a ton of research on resale and direct from Disney. i live In Georgia so It would be nice to get the blue card so I can get the gold AP instead of the Platinum AP But I always hear buy where u want to stay. Unless you’re buying cheap points like SSR. But I don’t really want riviera. I was looking at buying poly or boardwalk cause they’re my wife’s and I favorite resorts. My question is if I buy a resale direct from Disney would it still have to be at least 100 points to get the blue card and also where can I find the price per point for direct resale from Disney. Does the direct resale from Disney also come with restrictions similar to if u sale riviera the new buyer wouldn’t be able to stay anywhere but riviera? Thx

Buying through Disney is not considered resale it’s just: direct.

When buying through Disney you don’t need to buy 100 points just a minimum of 50 points at most resorts for first time buyers.

however if you want the blue card you need 100 points direct. You don’t need to buy them all at once but you won’t get the card before you own 100 points in total. One downside is if Disney raises the amount to buy to be eligible for the blue card before you reach a 100 points then you need whatever new number Disney sets. So it’s best to buy all at once and to be locked in and eligible going forward.

Current direct pricing on the two resorts you asked about below. Understand that BWV will expire in about 22 years, opposed to the 46 years left at PVB. Other things to think about, these resorts are considered sold out resorts. All that means is Disney may or may not have inventory, based on the amount of points you want and UY you choose. You may have to go on a waitlist to get what you want directly through Disney.

PVB- $245 per point
BWV- $200 per point

These are about 80$-110$ more than resales prices, which are dropping. We do not have much data on how far Disney will let the ROFR prices drop during this time.

Keep reading through all the threads her on the DVC forums, learn about UY's, and MF's, and all the other little details of DVC.

Also, my biggest suggestion is "buy where you want to stay" and pick the best UY for your current travel habits.

Another thing to consider is unless you go to WDW twice within 12 months then you dont need the blue card to buy the gold AP as the gold AP wont make sense to buy.

However if you go twice with like 11 months apart then it could make sense to buy points direct to get the blue card.

I thought that DVC changed how many points you are required to buy direct to 100 unless you were already an owner of either direct or resale points. And I an not referring to DVC the number needed for a blue card.

How many APs would you need? You are going to save in the area of 500$ per, so the math is straight forward.

Also realize that you can combine both resale and direct points to make reservations (but 100 do have to be purchased directly for perks) so if your intent is, for example, 200 points, it would probably be easier to buy resale first as Disney can change a points UY to match what you need.

And as pointed out buying from Disney is, by definition, Direct. Buying from brokers is 'resale'.

That is how I understand it. They no longer are allowing new buyers to get in for less than 100 points. Now, given the current climate and potential slow down of sales, this could change.

They have only change ow many points are required to get the perks and blue card, you can still buy less points direct but it wont qualify you for the perks and blue card.

Potentially you could buy 50 points this month and 25 more the following 2 months for a total 100 points. With your last purchase you would get the blue card and parks assuming that Disney haven't change the point requirement by then.

As far as your other question...if you buy BWV direct from Disney and decide to sell it in a year or two or ten...the new buyer will be able to use those points at any of the existing 14 other resorts. They will not be able to stay at Riviera but will have options other than just BWV...so it's a little different that Riviera's restrictions. (At least that is the rule as it stands now)
Good luck with your decision!

I kind of have a piggy back question to the original question asked. If I were to buy resale right now go get my foot in the door but buy direct later in life to get benifiets, can you add your resale points to direct points when making a booking? Say I buy 200 now resale and 100 direct 3 years from now, will I have 300 a year to use where ever? Can resale points be applied to new resorts if I have direct points as well? And if I never buy direct, do you still get the benefit of the DVC lounges and things like that? I know I can’t get discounted annual passes but wasn’t sure on the other benefits.

Yes your points can be combined. However the retain their home resort booking ability. This means if you own points at ssr and BWV then you can combine them at 7 months but not at 11 months.

Sandi, you have me excited at the prospect of this. Reduced minimums with potential huge sales incentives, I may just become a 25 point direct owner yet!!! :)

Resale points purchased now cannot be combined for new resorts, even if you have direct points. So if you have 100 direct and 200 resale at the same resort and same use year, you have 300 points at 11 months to use at the original 14 resorts, but only 100 that can be used at Riviera and future resorts. (If different resorts, same use year, they combine at 7 months).

I found this website helpful in my budgeting.

it blocked it out. I would PM you but you dont have enough posts yet.

I've been doing a lot of reseraqch and unless they just changed it, you are able to buy 50 points on SSR and OKW but you won't get the benefits and special card without 100 points. Doh!

If there is one thing I've learned with the whole CV shutdown is that use year matters for a lot more than I would have guessed. Yes, if you buy multiple contracts you want UY to match or else it gets confusing. But there's more; If your typical stay is say September you want a UY that allows you to bank should your trip get cancelled. February - OK, December you'd be out of luck. Just read through the posts and that's the one thing that keeps coming up. I feel terrible for these people - I mean, how could you ever guess this would come up? Now I know.

You'll only be able to attend the Top of the World Lounge at BLT.

Don't possess a blue member card: No shopping or dining discounts. Won't be able to gain entrance to the DVC Member Lounge in Epcot. Won't be able to attend any Member Magic events.

Use Year also matters for likely availability of resale contracts, if you imagine over time you'll want to add on. It matters less for direct as Disney can assign the UY, so if you plan on doing a mix of resale and direct, you might want to find the right resale contract first, and then add on direct.

I have a September Use Year. Only 8.6% of all UYs are September (based on this chart from 2018: https://dvcnews.com/index.php/dvc-p...ear-distribution-charts-updated-february-2018 ).

For my home resorts of BRV and AKL, it's 10% and 7% respectively.

December, February, June and August are the most popular UYs overall.
