New Disney Ships: News, Rumors, Speculation.....and Names!

Slightly off topic from the last few posts. But in one of the other threads, people were talking about where the ships will be now that the cruise industry is in the middle of a hiatus.

But in this link (https://www.marinevesseltraffic.com/DISNEY-CRUISE-LINE/cruise-ships-tracker), it lists the Disney ships: Magic, Wonder, Dream, Fantasy, Wish. And then ... Triton. So does this mean that the sixth ship will be the Disney Triton for sure?

Meyer Werft is moving the Iona up the Ems today (big notices that people should stay away in order to prevent crowds). I think once this is done, they will move on to the next ship.

So does anyone think the Wish construction might be pushed back months or even years due to the huge financial loss Disney is taking now and over the next few months?
Once MW begins construction is it even possible for them to stop without adversely affecting other vessels in the production process? In other words, would it gum up the works?

Itll severely gum up the works. Basically shipyards, auto makers and plane makers use what's known as just in time process. (or something like that)Basically instead of storing what they need for future use, the pieces arrive with little time to spare. It keeps the staff busy, instead of standing around with nothing to do. Its efficiency at its best. If they suddenly stop, theres a gap where employees may go elsewhere for work and now your work force is smaller when you go to resume again, so now training has to be done to bring everyone up to speed, and all the other ships down the line will suffer as well. Lets say for argument sake, the makers of the gensets shuts down to deal with cv19. Even if all the other suppliers continue to produce, and deliver, they cant move on with out the gensets. So now, it's a ripple effect. Itll affect the next several ships down the road.Once they start, there committed. The other ships down the line all have parts arriving at specific times to keep them moving. Any little hiccup and it becomes a major issue.

Best example is the Magic class. When the .Magic was built, a ship 2 ships in front of the Magic had major issues. I forget what offhand. Supposedly it was a design change. They pulled workers from the Magic and the ship infront of her to work on the ship with the issues. By the time the dust settled, the Magic was between not quite a year late, and the Wonder about 6 months. late, a year later.
Another example is during WW2 there was going to be 2 add on Iowa class battleships. Kentucky and I forget the 6th off hand. They started work on them with Kentucky about 60% done before stopping. The other was about 30% done. The drydocks weren't available for use for close to 10 or 15 years before the decision was made to scrap them.

Considering most of the car manufacturers are shutting down here in Germany, the supply chains are already disrupted there.

On the workers though there is good news. The German parliament has adopted an emergency package that the government will continue paying wages to those workers who would be out of work because their parts are missing. They get 60% of their usual wages, 67 % if they have kids. With this they try to get around the rehire problem.

It's possible that could happen. I'm thinking of emailing them to see if they plan on any delays. Then again the last 3 emails I've sent have gone unanswered.

I was looking at some of the build videos of the IONA. I can see some similarities with the design and the Triton class. Seems most cruiselines are having some type of bumpout on the sides, which yields either bigger rooms,, bigger balconies, or both. Plus that skydome is neat. I hope the new Disney Ships have more indoor public space with views outside.

Don't forget that the Wisconsin also used the bow of the Kentucky after a collision in order to minimize down time!

I didnt. That was right before they scrapped what was left of Kty. It's also how she got the nickname WisKy. They took the replacement piece off Kentucky and floated her for the first time, before scrapping her It was cheaper that way then building a now bow

In naval tradition, a female sponsors the ship, and christens it, usually breaking a bottle of champagne on the bow. Mariah Carey thought it would be a good idea to have her husband Nick Cannon christen the Fantasy at the last minute, I think she actually said the words in the atrium, but Nick was standing on the platform with Minnie when the bottle was broken. By all rights according to tradition, she should have been standing there on the platform.

I was there outside the port and took photos!!!! Had a good zoom lens. It was a windy night and I heard the rumor that she didn't want her hair to get messed up.

Minnie did hold the bottle at one point!!

Nice pictures. Having a good zoom lens can do a lot better job then phones can, but that's a different thread and topic. I watched it with my wife online, and don't remember the reason off hand, but I wouldn't be surprised.

We also watched her come up the Hudson River on the 28th. There were a group of people holding signs welcoming her to NYC.

Wow... sounds like they asked the wrong celebrity! I hope they don't make the mistake of asking a diva again.

Wonderful photos!
No one I know can think of a reason they asked her, other then she has a song called Fantasy. Theres any number of women under the DCL umbrella that would be more deserving.(for lack of a better term) The other 3 ships sponsors, all have a Disney connection somewhere. Magics is Patty Disney, the ex wife of Roy E Disney, Wonders is Tinkerbell, (no explanation needed) Dreams is Jennifer Hudson who was a singer on the Magic or Wonder. Lea Solanga would have been a good sponsor as shes the singing voice for more then a few Disney movies.(Got to meet her on the Fantasys Maiden)

I had to work the day the Dream came home, but from what I understand, Jetty Park and the channel was the same way. Im hoping to be able to see the Wish come home this time around. Btw, were you on the Jersey side? And was that one of FDNYs fire boats in the first picture? Its hard to tell.

At least there getting help. Itll be interesting to see what happens.

The Iona just floated out, the Aidacosma has started construction and can be seen on the webcam. That means by November we should be able to see the Wish start being built.

My guess is that the 2nd and most-likely 3rd will be delayed. With talk about how those over 60 should stay home as the country slows Covid 19 progress or until the vaccine is ready. There are some large groups paid for by grandparents that might have to find other vacations until the vaccine is ready. Not sure it would be a large amount of people but some definitely.

I suspect pricing will remain steady but not increase this next announcement.

The value resorts under construction pre-9/11 were stopped mid and early construction process.(Google abandoned Disney hotel) Slowly reimagined and finished about 15 years later. Many now with accommodations for larger size families.

I can’t think of a way to change a ship’s construction to avoid contamination. Can you?

It would never happen, but what if proof of prior virus or proof of shot could be a requirement for a ship?

Wow I really have stir-crazy thoughts today! I need to get back out of dreamland and back to reality with people!!

Disney most likely wont delay in building the ships. Theyll need the ships to pay themselves off. This is a short term issue, for lack of a better term being dealt with as opposed to 911. It will take a few.months to a year for the cruise lines to stabilize again. Remember, theres people still booked from May on. April is a question mark. No other lines that have ships planned have even come close to mentioning canceling or delaying new builds. Or even docking ships due to lack of demand.

There is some ways that the ships can be made to avoid contamination. Certain ultraviolet lights in the ac systems, for example, special additives in the ships laundry etc. The same cleaners can be used with special paints in the common areas. Placing hand sanitizer stations permanently mounted in the shipped from central locations.....The 2 big hurdles are 1, the people of the world that get onboard while knowingly sick, (think the genius that got on a plane knowing he was cv19 pos Happened at least 2x that I know of, ) and another virus that spreads similar to cv19. Theres ways around that also. There are full body scanners that can read a person's temp and if above a certain point they can be pulled aside for further screening.

Well see some changes in procedures, but I seriously doubt it will be a 911 type recovery.
