DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Hi all Disdads!
Joining here for the first time. Been on the boards since 2011, been a Disney fan for a lot longer. Had the pleasure to work for WDW for a few years starting 2012, and thankful I did as I met my wife there! Married in 2016, and moved to Houston for a chance to work for an airline (couldn’t pass that up). We are expecting our first child in August, so dad duty will finally “offically” begin! We still visit WDW often as we have AP’s, and have a couple friends who still work there so it makes it a “cheap” stay haha. Can’t wait to read through and be apart of this group!!

Welcome aboard, Kelton!

At least now, when you find something else, you can just walk out the same day without 2 weeks notice.
"Boss? Can I talk to you? Can you close the door? I know you've got that huge job for me to do tomorrow and you'll be up sh!ts creek if I don't do it... but remember when you told me you were bringing in a temp to replace me, when you found one? Well, sucks to be you because I won't be in tomorrow, or ever again. Bye."

That would be epic!

Morning guys, from the mother country, Some pretty devastating news last night. One of our close friends, and the Dad of my boy's best friend had a massive heart attack and passed away. He was only 42, and leaves his wife, a son of 9 and a daughter of 7. I was only playing tennis with him the Sunday before last, before the lockdown. Raise a glass of your finest, he was a good one.

Wow. I'm so sorry, Dan. Will be praying for you and his family.

Hey guys, been awhile. How's everyone handling quarantine? Our County in PA is on full lockdown right now

I'm trying to keep things as normal as possible, even working from home. When I get ready in the morning, I change from my lounging sweatpants to my work sweatpants.

Wow.
So... they have someone right there... yet they're willing to replace you with a temp....

At least... I hope it happens that way.

I did that once, actually. I was working at an outsourcing company, print shops in large law firms while in college. Well, I was supposed to be moved to a new location because the company I worked for lost the contract for the site I liked. I called and got an interview with the new company and got the job. I then called my new manager at the location I was supposed to go to and told him that I quit and wouldn't be at work the next day. I would have loved to have seen the look on his face. So, the idea has popped into my head if and when I get a new job.

Good luck. Won't be easy these days.

Yeah, it won't be easy, but I'll find something...even if I have to ask, "Would you like fries with that?" Thanks.

I knew it!

And... ice cream please. I don't like beer.

You got it, dude!

Here, they're asking people to stay home, but nothing enforced (except for people traveling here from outside the country are required to quarantine for 14 days.)
You can still go out, but stores are required to have 6'/2m markings on the floor for distancing.
From what I'm seeing (Which ain't much since I don't go out except to shop for groceries and work) people seem to be respecting that.
We also walk the dogs every day, but keep our distance from others. Quite a few people out walking that I'd not seen before.
The shocker is that we won't get to go to his funeral, in the lockdown it's immediate family only.
There's a good chance they'll stream it or record it for later viewing. Contact the funeral home and ask if they've made any arrangements.
I think the main thing is to keep the support up once the immediate grief has passed for them as that's when she is going to struggle, when "normal" life returns, for want of a better phrase.
It will be especially difficult that they can't have visitors. But... the phone still works and you can still drop food off at their doorstep.

Yes I still do. We are now even considered "Essential" haha.....but I work graveyard shift in the maintenance department, so I don't see many people. It is great for Social Distancing.
That's good. I haven't checked on US carriers, but up here our two major airlines have laid off thousands and the smaller carriers are either shut down or have drastically reduced their flights.

I have mixed feelings about this.
Was your old boss a jerk? If so, serves him right.
But if he was a decent boss, then I think he deserved notice.

From your tone, though, I'm guessing he was a jerk.
Yeah, it won't be easy, but I'll find something...even if I have to ask, "Would you like fries with that?" Thanks.
You know... that expression has become a euphemism for unskilled and probably un-intelligent workers. But I have a heck of a lot more respect for someone who actually works instead of sits at home collecting dole (if they're able to work. Not including those who can't for whatever reason.)
I've worked (like a lot of teens) in the restaurant industry and it's not an easy gig, at all.

He actually was and I wasn't looking forward to working with the guy. I had heard horror stories from people that had worked with him and didn't want to go through that.

Don't get me wrong, I have the upmost respect for people who work jobs like that, I've worked jobs like that myself, I just don't like working in the food industry, never have. I am, however, willing to work in that industry if I had to, even though I hate working in the food industry. I'd rather be working in a job I hate than sponging off the system.

Then you have done well, my son.

I wouldn't want to go back to the food industry either. Too much work for too little pay. Been there, don't wanna go back!

Hey guys quick stop by in the middle of all this craziness. SIL is quarantined and waiting for COVID-19 test results 3 days and counting.
Morning, Gents! Well, my life just got a bit more complicated. I came into work this morning to my new supervisor telling me that we need to talk (never a good sign). "Ok," I said, so we headed to his office where he had me close the door...yeah, this doesn't look good. He proceeds to tell me that because of the hiring freeze, my position in purchasing, which was supposed to go on for a while while they looked at candidates, is now going to be filled with a temp who can do purchasing. So if they can get someone in here next week that can do the job, I'll be out of a job next week. Right now, there are not candidates coming forward, so I'm hopeful that I can last another couple of weeks, but that could change any minute. So now I'm ratcheting up my job finding gears and putting feelers out there to all my friends and contacts. Hopefully something will come up.
Sorry to hear especially these difficult times

Welcome to our little clam bake. We are normally a bit more jovial group but we will get back to our normal shenanigans soon I hope

Very sorry to hear Dan. Always seems more sad when it is a young parent leaving behind the younger kids - prayers to you and the family

Morning boys, from a sunny London. Reached out to Jeff and Norm, as I haven't seen them for a while. Another run in the books, so the marathon training is on track. Shops seems to be calming down a bit here, I'll venture out and maybe get some Ribs for BBQ tomorrow. We have a ton of Lego turning up today. The stores are closing until at least April 12, we found out this morning. So it looks like like I am doing a year's worth of project in about a 5 month window, as we steer clear of November, and we are modelling not coming back until June.

Last night was another EPCOT eating around the world, we were in Norway. The boy prepped Pork Belly, went on the the interwebby, worked out how long to cook it for, the time to put it in, and the curly haired Ninja prepped the potatoes and the cabbage. It's actually pretty fun. Curly Haired Ninja got to pick the name of the restaurant, so we went with......

Elsa's Palace.

China and Germany next week.

So... another new way to quarantine yourself. Launch into space. Clever.
Yeah, but when you get up there, the Aliens take your temp before they let you through.

I think everyone in life should work at least a year in either retail or the food service. It teaches you not to be a complete d!ckhead to people. Retail and Food are incredibly hard jobs. I stayed in retail because a lot of the time up to a pretty high level, it's a meritocracy. If you are good, you get on. If you aren't, you can p!ss off. I don't miss all the disciplinary meetings I had to hand out though. Normally for not turning people not turning up, or abusing discount. Or generally being a bit rubbish.

All the best mate, hope for a good outcome.
It will be especially difficult that they can't have visitors. But... the phone still works and you can still drop food off at their doorstep.
Yeah, we all kind of feel a bit useless. in any other time we would be all flying round there, having the kids, helping out......
Sorry to hear this Dan, sending prayers to your family and your friends family
Cheers Rob

Thanks mate

Welcome sunshine! Honestly, we generally talk about Jasmine's bristols, BBQ, and alcohol rather than worldwide pandemics, ****** bosses and mortality. Stick with us, and normal service should be resumed at about 2 O'clock, where you usually get the bonus of me allowing you to leave work at the time I finish. All part of the international Disdad service. Randall, did you brand him on the butt yet with his number? And don't give none o this lockdown nonsense, there's a job to do.

Congrats! That's exciting! Enjoy the early stages where you open your fridge and the cheeky nibbles you were saving for later are still there....

Have a fabulous day chaps. We are alive. We all have our families. And as far as I can work out, none of us support Spurs. Let's Gaston it up, puff our chests out and push on through to the weekend.

Morning All.

Overcast here as well but on the good side of the freezing mark so that's good. Need to make a run into town at some point today. Repainted our bedroom over the last couple of day so the trim has to go back on an everything put back in place today as well. Need to get the latest Covid update out to our members and look at some budget numbers for our funding submission. Should be a full day.

Hope everyone is staying safe and hasn't become too bored yet.

Morning from a overcast Westfield NB. Got my surgery done yesterday, everything went well. Back at work today, Happy Friday guys

Good to hear Rob.
