Anyone else guilty of buying something else non essential

I haven't really changed my online shopping habits but I haven't been out to a brick and mortar store in weeks. Today though I have a wine and liquor curbside pick up order to get, which I deem essential but I'm sure others wouldn't.
We also have to make a repair on the roof of our storage unit at our camp, that will require dh to go to Home Depot or Lowes so I plan on giving him a list of flowers I want for the garden. If he's going to be there anyway I see no reason not to purchase what they are selling.

If I’m already out getting groceries, like at Aldi or Walmart or Wegmans for example, yes I’m going to stroll over to the “non essential” aisles and get what I need for planned house projects or whatever. Am I just out and about to touch everything and infect everyone? Absolutely not, I’ll follow social distancing guidelines, thank employees for working, and wash my hands, but I’m already there so I’ll get what I need.

Isolation can really take it’s toll on mental health and I believe staying busy and having projects to focus on can help. So if I need some paint to finish painting a piece of furniture, I’m going to get it while I’ll put getting groceries for the week. I don’t see it much here, but the “shaming” on other social media websites is getting out of control.

I have a Target order pickup for today for Paas egg dye kit and white vinegar. Not essential. I've also picked up a toddler bed, Paw Patrol towel, and a tri-cycle from Target. I ordered clothes for DGS and some stuff from Sephora for me. None of it "essential", except the bed because the boy needs a place to sleep since he lives here now.

I had to go to the grocery store, as I often do, and while I was out, I bought a DVD. Not essential, but my trip was, so I have no problem with it.

Right when our stay at home order was announced we went to Walmart to get some groceries we needed at that time and while there got just a few things for crafting.

Since then we ordered an outdoor deck storage from Home Depot and because it was over the dollar threshold we just had it shipped to home for free (though it takes a few days more) because we weren't sure it would fit in my husband's vehicle, we bought mulch because we desperately needed to replace existing mulch (well there wasn't much left lol), we just picked up yesterday a curbside order from Joann's (which this store location was actually only curbside you couldn't go in, but another store location is not like that), went to Menards for a few things and saw stepping stones so we bought some, went to a nursery to replace drift rose plants that died 2 years ago, etc

Buy online and pick up in store when available is a great way (something we do a lot anyways) to reduce risk. So far the only thing we've bought from Amazon was some mug hooks that actually were not delayed, most items while we normally don't mind them being a bit longer and have no problems with them delaying we've opted to not really look at Amazon much as the lead time is generally 3-4 weeks at this point.

But really there's no reason to feel guilty about buying something someone somewhere would consider non-essential. Limit your trips and take precautions while you're out and about, utilize options (curbside, in-store pick up, ship to home, etc) that allow for less overall exposure, etc.

We bought some stuff to remodel my son's room for his birthday. They obviously weren't essential

It's OK to shop online.

It's OK to grab something while you are out buying groceries.

I feel it's not OK for the government to shut everything non-essential down and tell everyone to stay out of groups and to stay home to pile into the Lowe's garden section for your freakin flowers just because they have stayed open because your fridge or stove breaking is deemed essential infecting my exwife working without sanitizer being made available and no time being allowed to wash her hands so she is probably eventually going to pick up the virus and take it home to my kids.

And stop with the stupid gloves people. Unless you take them off properly and change them every time you touch something, it's no different than not wearing gloves. Stopped at the convenience store on the way home from work. Guy had gloves on. He touched every item of the person in front of me, touched their card, touched the register, touched the counter, touched the receipt from the register, touched the bag he put the items in, then proceeded to do the same for me. All he did was potentially spread a virus around to everything rather than protect anything from a virus.

Well you sure told us now didn't you ;)

Last week I contacted a boutique store I like to shop at after receiving an email from them advising that they remain closed but have opened up a small online presence during the situation. I ended up emailing with the shop owner and selecting a bracelet which she shipped to me so we have a little something to give our daughter to celebrate her birthday this week. It was shipped via USPS, who are also in terrible financial straits due to the dropoff in mail volume.

Yeah, I did go to Target for some essentials, but also to pick up Rise of Skywalker on Bluray. I could've gotten the essentials elsewhere, but not the movie, so I made the trip. I also needed the pet store that is in the same shopping center anyway so it worked out.

Society has gone lunatic. The government ordered everything shut down and ordered everyone to stay home, so everyone that isn't working is piling into Lowe's for paint and flowers, ridiculous.

As I said, nothing in the history of mankind has brought people physically closer than ever than social distancing.

I think you need to take this up with Lowe’s. Every store in my area has 6ft stickers on the floor, people scrubbing carts and check out lanes, hand sanitizer for employees to use in between every order and limits on the amount of people in the store at one time. The problem is not society it’s your wife’s employer.

That's how you see it I guess. You're always such a cynic though; it bleeds through your posts so much, so I don't take to heart your comments though of course you're able to express them; that is what discussion is all about so no worries on that front. It's just not going to change anyone's options so yup "you sure told us" :)

The only stores I'm walking into are grocery stores. I've moved my prescriptions to a drive-thru pharmacy. I've picked up food from local restaurants but only curbside. I've ordered stuff online. The one exception is our local bookstore. They're offering front porch contactless deliveries. I called them and requested books and puzzles. Not only am I supporting a local business but I'm getting it faster than I would from Amazon. I disinfected them before I brought them in.
