What will Disney's next set of restrictions be?

And I do think messing with the booking windows could do more damage than Disney wants.

Certainly a very valid point I hadn't considered. However, I think there are other reasons restrictions won't be created but benefits may be added. If you make the product completely unattractive in resale then the price of resale drops which certainly makes purchasing direct DVC very risky. At least now I know if I have direct contracts to sell because of emergency I'm going to get back some money. This reasoning is why certain brands of cars are more popular simply because of their resale value at trade in time.

In short...damage resale value and you damage direct value or sales numbers. Had Covid-19 not stopped everything I think by now we would have a lot of evidence that restrictions at Riviera hurt value and sales of that property.
DVC doesn't care about resale value. It is one of the very few Timeshares that hold on average over 60% of its value in the resale market. Very few people buy timeshares based upon the resale value, if they did then you wouldn't have thousands of other timeshares on the resale market for pennies on the dollar or even free if you just release them from their obligation. They only really exercise their ROFR when they have someone wanting to buy points direct that is why alot of times you are put on a wait list. They do not do it to prop up prices, that would be counter productive since it would increase what they would have to pay in ROFR. I do not think DVC will place any further restrictions in place going forward, at best they will make the incentives for buying direct a little better such as free tickets for the first two or 3 years since they can write this off as a marketing expense.

When there are more 14+ resorts I could see some of the of the blue card benefits for the original 14 to begin to fade.

There is one benefit they can add to the " Blue Card" membership that would cost absolutely nothing that members would see as having alot of value. Ability to book fast pases at the 90 day window.
Yes, please!

Well we sort of have that already. That perk is however not related to blue card holders. Any member booking club level etc can book FP+ 90 days out.

You have to pay $50 per person for each day you want for that privilege and it gives you 3 extra fast passes and it must be for all guests in the room.

Good one.

I keep hoping to see a direct incentive of guaranteed week plus tickets for those dates; even if it was just discounted. The equivalent of the AP discount but for once a year DVC members.

Any allowance to give resale points direct member benefits is going to be the cost of new points...not just paying a fee,

For example, if you own 150 resale points, you buy 150 direct points and all 300 work for all resorts.

Once thing they won’t do is make it so buying resale plus a fee is still cheaper than direct. It would move more people to resale, not less.

I could also see them adding a trade fee for reservations. For example, someone pays $5/pt to upgrade points to stay at RIV with resale points...or, charge resale RIV owners the same to trade out.
I don't think this would work for DVC. Other timestare use this approach but they get a lot more foreclosures or owners giving them back for free just to get rid of the MF. DVC keep very few points of the resorts they are not selling, if this offer is successfully they'd have to ROFR much more increasing their repurchase price and cutting their profits.
I think it's more likely they'll just ask something like 80-100pp to qualify the points as direct.

As far as booking DVC resorts goes, there is nothing in the existing contracts that would allow them to treat owners differently based on how they acquired their points.

That would be a very drastic change to make for new resorts. IMO, it would hurt direct sales more than help them. Can't see them doing that.
You're right. But there is also nothing in the existing contract saying direct and resale owners must have the same booking window.
I do not think that for the L14 resorts they'll ever change it, but for new resorts? The chance it not null. The Riviera POS has language saying the may introduce more restrictions for resale owners, including a different booking window. Anyone buying Riviera should be conscious this may happen and if they buy they accept the risk. This is true both for direct (the value of the contract would plummet) and resale (they might not be able to use their contract at all during peak periods).

I have read my RIV POS and I do not see it saying that regarding booking window...changes yes, but not that..

Could you post pages because I certainly could have missed it?

I guess maybe the thought that Riviera is so nice people will want to buy resale contracts anyways?

Been to Riviera. Wasn't impressed. The biggest thing it has going for it is that it is on the gondola. Really just not that special. Now, I admit some people will LOVE it, but I would take a vacation at AK, VGF, BLT, or Wilderness Lodge over Riviera any day. So, are people going to guy Riviera resale? Yeah. And more power to 'em. I hope they get a really really good price.

If they made this kind of change, I wonder if current resale owners would be grandfathered in under the current policy?
I would say yes to grandfathered in. Those that bought prior to 1/2019 do not have any resort stay restrictions. These resale DVC members can book Rivera and any new upcoming DVC resorts, as they are grandfathered.

I agree with others who suggest that sweetening the perks for direct buyers is more the way to go. As it stands right now, part of me *really* wants to buy a direct contract for just the few perks that currently exist. Does it make financial sense? No. Is it likely that I could actually make it events like Moonlight Magic? Probably not. But, I also don’t like feeling excluded from those things. Add one or two more big perks (discount on park tickets, not just AP, or a voucher for a free app or drink each day at the resort, etc.), and I think I’d be won over.

The only perk that remotely appeals to me is the ability to buy discounted APs. I have no idea if we would ever really use any of the other perks. Really, the only reason I would ever buy direct is the new Disneyland Hotel tower.

Do you think the moonlight magic will continue? I am sure it will be awhile if it does? On the DVC unplugged says these perks can come & go anytime just as they took it away from resale. Maybe prices will be lowered due to the circumstances at this time. I think a lot of these perks are unusable at this time, in my opinion.

Resale owners have to wear an sandwich board in the parks with “2nd class member” written on it.

Well, RIV will have to be third class. Us white card members are already the second class. They can keep making lower classes and they expand the new resorts.
