Resort Change by Disney

Now CMs can only make comparable lateral moves unless that resort category is full, and she said they're actively discouraging any late-2020 changes now.
So the reason to discourage late 2020 changes at this time is because the resort might open up? I can't imagine the all stars opening up but maybe one of the Port Orleans. I am also concerned that they are going to open up 2020 resort and ticket sales "later this summer" and I would hope our reservations would be squared away before they do that. After seeing the limited seating on the socially distanced buses, I see the incentive for Disney to focus on opening resorts with alternative transportation options.

Absolutely! We were at FQ 9/7-13, got moved to CB and charged more for it (even standard was over $120 more) but thought I had no choice but to pay. Heard about the price protection here yesterday and was like "what the heck!" Got nowhere yesterday after 5 hrs on hold, so called again this morning to at least get the price protection, and got an upgrade!! I wasn't even asking about it but the CM said we absolutely shouldn't have been charged more and put us at Poly!

You got moved from a mod to a deluxe today?? UGH. My TA *just* told me that's not possible since CMs got this new matrix yesterday.

My TA's exact wording was "They are discouraging any later 2020 changes now, saying that the resorts may open up." :confused3

We don't know, we're all just theorizing.

My guess is the matrix has more flexibility as fewer things are open. I know the CM I was talking to said July 29 when CBR solves a lot of the shortage issues if you're there for the first 2ish weeks things are open, when there really isn't a moderate open at all.

I was going to ask about CBR b/c I was moved there. We have never stayed there but I am just happy to have a place to stay. I didn't have the strength (after Monday) to fight for an upgrade and took what they offered. Any info about the resort is greatly appreciated :-) .
I guess I can tell you my reasoning. We normally stay deluxe but this time voluntarily chose CBR because of the free dining discount, ability to try out the nice quick service dining at Riveria, the gondolas as an alternative to the long bus loop for at least two parks, and because we were planning to use the water parks on our non-park days so didn't plan on any real downtime at the resort.

Now with the changes announced, CBR just wasn't a good choice for us any more. With the water parks closed, we have three "resort days". While CBR's pool is nice, I have read it is often very crowded, which, coupled with it being the only mod open our dates, leads me to worry that we would not be able to come and go to the pool because it would reach capacity. Also, it appears now that "resort hopping" is prohibited unless you have a dining reservation, so that ruled out eating QS at the Riviera, and the QS at CBR did not appeal to me. Furthermore, without the free dining, replacement 35% off was not really a good deal (not much different from what we'd be pay with the more "typical" room discount of 25% off). Finally, with buses being limited in capacity for social distancing I was concerned that the buses would have long waits, especially with lots of other guests being moved to CBR and filling the resort.

Based on all that, even though CBR is open for my dates, I opted to pay a LOT more, even with the 35% off discount from our cancelled free dining to transfer to a DVC deluxe resort with good transportation option, dining, and several nice pools. I hope I made the right choice, but it is all so much guesswork now.

All in all, I think if you have a trip that was like what I originally planned (parks all day and just a resort to sleep in), then CBR is perfectly fine, as shown by the fact that I was willing to book it originally. But for a resort-heavy stay, I think there are downsides.

Thank you so much for your reply! I totally understand your reasoning. Luckily, this is a Mother/Daughter trip and we will be at the parks all day. I told my mom that this is somewhere new that we have never stayed, so it will be an adventure much like the rest of the trip without park hopping, parades, fireworks etc.. :-)

Is it possible they perhaps giving it to some people who were charged extra earlier when they initially tried to move and didn't get their price protection rate?
The GS CM I spoke to yesterday didn't say anything to me but had a "something" in her voice when she heard I was upcharged. And she made it a priority to fix it.

I called right at 7:00 a.m. yesterday morning and waited 2.5 hours. I was assisted by a very pleasant and cheerful cast member who changed 3 resort reservations for me.

Booked Sun and Fun:
July 11-July 12 Poly: Changed to CR main building bay lake view
July 12-16 GDT: Changed to 1 Bedroom AK Kadani Village
July 16-19 Poly: Changed to CR main building bay lake view

My mother had a reservation for GF Theme Park View for July 11-19 booked using Sun and Fun.
She had a difficult time with the cast member and was confused by options that were given to her. She eventually agreed to a 2 Bedroom at OKW, but with a price increase of $800. She is conflicted whether to keep this because of the price increase. I have read most of this thread to see where folks at GF were moved, but there didn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to the moves. I think she would prefer a 1 bedroom at any other DVC (other than SSR) over this room.

That's what I expected too, with the matrix, so I didnt bother to ask, the magical creature of a GS CM just did it and I was blown away!

I guess it's because CBR is the only mod open for your dates, whereas when I go, CSR is supposed to be open, too. Did you have to keep the higher CBR rate for your Poly dates? Or did they give you back your FQ rates and still put you at Poly?

I was originally going to wait and see if Disney would reach out (we planned to cancel), but our TA took it upon themselves and I'm glad they did after I started reading elsewhere about people who said their mid-July reservations were cancelled due to lack of comparable rooms.

We are mid-August, moved from water view at YC to marina view at Poly. No additional cost to us. It was the only resort I would have accepted, yet the last one I expected to get (I would have bet on Rivera or CR). They haven't made the decision of whether to cancel or not any easier.

The three things I learned watching and dealing with various things? 1. Use a good TA; 2. Book a basic package, it allows a lot more flexibility for cancellations; and (purely from observation) 3. don't rent DVC points

I did not, she said I'd have price protection and brought it back down to the original price (minus two dollars oddly enough)!

My MDE is still showing the higher amount for my resort change even though I was told it would be the exact same price. Any idea how long that might take to update?
Mine switched sometime overnight, after calling and getting it done yesterday morning around 1030. I was a little worried because we changed with a regular CM before the matrix came out and got an awesome upgrade, but it went through :) Only 2 out of 4 of our rooms got the email confirmations reflecting the adjusted/correct price, but that's not uncommon with any of our reservations. I went into our MDE accounts though and they're all there and adjusted. We're all pretty excited. Good luck to all still dealing with it :)

I just got a call from Undercover Tourist to ask if I plan to keep or cancel my 7/17 reservation for POFQ. I told the Rep I plan of keeping for now. She said the resort won't be open and that Disney will move me to another resort, most likely an upgrade, as they would never down grade us (her words). I do not need to call Disney. She also said it I should just keep checking MDE to see where we are moved. She also stated that UT has no idea when this will happen( could be day of check in!) , and that the communication from Disney hasn't been good. She said that she thinks DIsney has no idea what they are doing LOL. This stinks because the resort is one of the main deciding factors for this trip. I guess I'll continue to wait.
