Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Hello friends,
We have been on vacation the past several days with our cousins, we spent three nights at a VRBO house, which had close access to a beach that was not even close to crowded. It was also much cooler then home (high 60 to low 70s) which was lovely. Today we all came back to the cousins house and we will be here until next Wednesday. They live a two hour drive from us, and this was our plan to make up for a high DC trip we had planned with them. Hopefully we can visit there next year and everything will be settled down again.
I am worried about DD11 right now. I think Maybe she has forgotten what it is like to be around others so much. As an only child, she is use to the quiet these past several mo this and lots of alone time. While she is loving being with her cousins, she is overwhelmed and cannot make a decision to save her life right now. A simple decision like do you want a Taco or a Burrito can result in tears. Hopefully we can find a way to get her emotions in better control these next several days. I am blaming puberty for most of this 🤣

@Caseheidi, I sympathize with your DD! I am very much an introvert, and I remember saying to my DH a few weeks ago that I probably adjusted a little too well to quarantine. - The first day I really spent significant time with people, I came home and fell asleep on the couch afterwards!

Me too. I really don't mind staying home.
I love seeing the family on Saturday pool days.......BUT I can't handle the noise level well and sometimes I just want to go shut myself in a room for it to be quiet.
Today is a pool day.....celebrating DS's birthday (it is the 4th)

Good morning.

I did the part of the riding mowing of the yard I can do and DH does the slope and push mower. Trying to get done before the heat returns.

I have gotten used to staying home and have become uncomfortable going out. I am afraid that once (hopefully) the virus is under control and there is a vaccine, I won't want to leave the house. I had become more of a germaphobe in the last few years and this has made it worse. I like to see family but am not interested in seeing friends face to face. I hope I get over this.

Out to level the bird bath. The symmetrical part of my brain is bothered that it isn't level.

:hug:Heidi and good to "see" you again. I am so glad you are enjoying a getaway. Hugs to your daughter. This time, especially for all of us but I would think kids especially is so hard. Sometimes to me days to still feel timeless or as though we have been in this forever. As you said your daughter is 11 and that is a time of much change in general! I can understand her being overwhelmed with the relative newness of being in a crowd of sorts right now when for so long she was used to a quieter space. Maybe ask her ahead of time (though I sure know kids can change their minds every two seconds) what she might like for a meal and away from others or invite her to help with meal planning/cooking. You are doing a great job as mom! :)

I am also an introvert though have truly grown a ton less shy thanks to being active at church. I definitely need my down time. I will share just going to the dentist briefly for a very quick cleaning on Monday (I was gone from home less than an hour and a half) I felt tired! Not used to being out! One thing I truly have come to find such a Blessing during this time is recognizing and celebrating down/still time, more time to be in prayer and be grateful to for smaller things! When this plague ends one day and it truly is safe to be out again, I am sure for me it will be a curve! I am planning my first outing to be one early morning to Kohls! Then be home by lunch time. Honestly, and maybe because I am such a simpler eater to begin with, I do not miss dining out at all. Sure one day, every now and then I will but never again as often as I once did and I won't plan needed shopping outings around multiple places and also knowing there would be somewhere I'd want to have lunch. So slowing down is indeed a good and healthy thing!

Happy Saturday and August with a hug to all!

I can understand introverted children getting a bit out of sorts from staying home or not being able to see their close friends or family as much. Add in puberty and it can be a bit of an issue. I am a true introvert who needs my alone time. One saying I like is, My alone time is for your safety. LOL! I think I have DH on board with the need for me to have alone time. Since Covid though I have not had much alone time as we both work from home now. I used to take off a day every few months just to be home myself. No more for now! My alone time is my 15 ride to and from the office one day a week. Not enough!

I am looking forward to our NH vacation this month. It probably won't be too relaxing as the kids and grandkids are coming up during the week. One family will be there for 2 nights, we will have one day all together, and then that family will go home and the other will stay for 2 nights. We can fit all 11 in the condo but older DS says his older DS has trouble sleeping and they need 2 rooms so we have to split up. Maybe I can get some alone time reading on the deck with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. I am just looking forward to seeing 4 different walls.

My friends and I never made up holidays but it sounds like fun. Maybe we should make up holidays as adults and have a fun day with cake and ice cream and doing what we want. :D

I think you and I must be sisters,,I did the lawn the other day, before the predicted 3 days of rain. 2 days almost down and no rain here yet though. Supposed to only be in lower 80's all week here.
I am used to staying home, so there hasn't been much difference for me, other than hubby being home working all day.
I leveled our bird baths yesterday, for some reason they got knocked a little off kilter. I figure the one in the back yard was from a deer drinking, but I don't know why the one in the front yard would be off. Both are level now! lol!

Welcome to August Dis Family!
Did errands this morning..got corn at the farm stand (down to $5.99 a dozen now). Stopped at Aldi's and got fresh blueberries, milk, and a Texas bbq brisket to cook tomorrow. Hit Walmart for cat food and a few other things. Lots of empty shelves. Things that there have been plenty of are now MIA..Potomac Farms cottage cheese being one of them. Usually there is a full case of the big cartons, not one in sight today, and only a few of the smaller size. Not much in the way of baked beans, canned meats, still no cleaning products (although Sister In Law did score us each other big can of Lysol spray last Monday). TP and Paper Towel row looked like they had been wiped out. Not one box of cat litter in the store (a few of the big plastic tubs of Tidy Cat), and not much canned cat food. Either they were very busy last nite, or their warehouse is dropping the ball again. I did score a huge apple pie from the bakery, marked down to $2. I can't bake one from scratch for that price so I grabbed it. Dinner is going to be sea scallops in butter and garlic sauce, rice, and fresh corn!
Hope everyone has a great day!

I read this as the one was from BEER drinking. LOL I leveled the paver underneath the ceramic base of the bird bath only to discover that it was the base of the bath that was not level. I ended up using duct tape to build up one side of the lip of the base before I put the top back on. Now there is no more deep and shallow ends to the birds swimming pool.

Trying to refocus a little on my photography again as a type of self-care/relaxation, so thank you for that, as it was here that I realized I should. In the midst of a work stretch, but got out the other day and while running around, I took the time to stop and smell the roses a bit. Posting them in the order I viewed them. So much fun. Enjoy!

Back from DD's house. Her husband was going out to a co-worker's small wedding celebration and she wanted help with the baby while getting the toddler to bed. We stopped at Crooked Hammock and got carry out for everyone for dinner.

@Meriweather, that cake looks really good.

QOTD for 8/1: What was your (or your kids) favorite thing to do at the park or playground? I liked the see-saw (teeter totter) and the slide. Of course slides used to be metal and you could burn the skin right off the back of your legs.
