Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Though it's nice to have daily testing -- even in the hospital setting we don't do this. We have universal masking requirements and recently instituted eyewear recommendations. We initially did every 2 week testing for surveillance, but the return on new positives were lower than the general community spread rates so we discontinued that pretty quickly.

I do believe Disney should be able to provide on-demand testing for CMs who want to be tested regularly and don't have to rely on waiting in line 4+ hours and 5+ days for results to return. That should be where Disney lands on offering and being a good corporate citizen to its CMs

This is pretty much what Knotts did. I think around April or May they told season pass holders they would extend the pass until Dec 2021. I think Cedar Fair has said not to expect the parks to open, but now they have slowly rolled out events to give people a "taste" of the park.

With distance learning in play? Definitely. If DLR had a food+wine offering, I have no doubt that VGC will fill up as Sept is a prime travel time for that.

DLR has a lot to offer besides indoor entertainment. While we would miss the rides and dualing pianos, we would gladly be happy walking down mainstreet or PP and have a few bites to eat over the evening and buy 65th anniversary merch.

🙋‍♀️ Us too!

same, one major theme parks located in Northern California calledit a year andtold everyone “see you in 2021.”

this is Great America in Santa Clara, one of the few counties close to coming off the watch list.

EDIT: removed six Flags in Vallejo, it was actually their water park in concord.

The Cedar Fair park in the SF Bay Area (California's Great America) has officially announced as of Aug 4 they will be closed until 2021. I think what they're doing at Knotts is super smart and I would consider going if I was still a local. Great America does not have the same kind of following or history as Knotts so I don't mean to imply they should be doing that up here but I'm sure DLR execs are watching Knotts closely (as has been reported).

A WDW CM, who is also a Union Shop Steward, was interviewed by Rolling Stone. Though she refers to WDW as the Happiest Place on Earth, she shares a lot of accurate info regarding what’s happening behind the scenes at WDW:

Thanks for sharing this. This quote caught my attention: “A lot of guests think that they can take their masks off on the ride, and that’s a big no-no. When they’re screaming down a roller coaster, they need to have their mask on. A lot of guests don’t like that.”

I keep seeing reports of this on Youtube too. This is so problematic especially when you think about indoor rides. I really hope this isn’t happening as often as I keep seeing it commented on. 😔 Something like this being a persistent issue would make a visit pre-vaccine a no go for my family.

Where did you see that Six Flags said they were closing for the year? I am a member and I only received notice that Hurricane Harbor wasn't opening. Six Flags is open for the animals only.

It appears that passes for both Hurricane Harbor and Six Flags will be valid for the waterpark through 2021. You are right that the current announcements don't seem to include Six Flags itself, only Hurricane Harbor. If anyone can find other official news, please post.

Here is the info for Great America:

Yeh, Six Flags Vallejo is not closed permanently for the rest of the year. But hurricane harbor is.

Hope this is ok to post here!

I was watching a FreshBaked video. He mentioned that he believes once DL can re-open, that DL will re-open first, and DCA will remain closed temporarily. He said it's because they won't have enough cast members to staff both parks, since some won't want to come back due to health concerns, or maybe some found other jobs already? So they will re-assign everyone to DL first. Once they get a re-opening date, they will start to hire more to work at DCA, but it will probably take some time, hence the temporary closure. I'm sure this is just a rumor/his opinion, but I wanted to throw it out there. What do you think? Sorry if this has been discussed already.

I watched that video too and was confused. It looked like both parks were scheduled to open, the same day, when the July 17 opening date was discussed. I wonder if David from Freshbaked has some inside knowledge about a change from the "original plan"? I am not sure!

Honestly, I’ll take it! Something is better than nothing!

Yes that's true. Unless something happened between then and now? Like more workers quit or something? I was also wondering if he had inside knowledge. Probably just his opinion, but he seemed very confident, so who knows.

Yes for sure! But since I'm not a local, I would probably not fly or drive all the way there if one park is closed. I only get down there once a year at most, so I would want to wait until both are open. So it would just add to the complication of rescheduling and planning a trip!

narf, my mistake! Editing post, that email must have been about hurricane harbor.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-08-06/coronavirus-california-undercount
Of note from this article: “State officials have not yet provided details on when fixes will be made to the electronic system, called CalREDIE, that reports coronavirus test results to the state's disease registry system. California, as a result, lacks an accurate count of coronavirus infections, leading health officials to freeze the state's watchlist, with no counties added or removed.”

So until the system is fixed, progress is stalled.... It also mentioned a county has to be off the watchlist for two weeks before reopening anything, I must have missed that before.

Let’s hope those good numbers we were seeing this week are actually accurate. 🤞

You’re lucky to get a test in CA IF you have symptoms where I’m at. And it takes 2-3 weeks to get your result. No I’m not exaggerating. No way in heck is Disney providing on-demand CM testing in CA when sick people in the same state have trouble getting tested because everything is so backed up. If DLR needs to do that settle in for a very, very long wait to reopen.
