Covid And The Rest of Us

Not exactly but the numbers can be parsed in a lot of different ways. At this time it's BC's cases that are increasing most rapidly and Manitoba that has pole-vaulted ahead of the rest of the provinces per-capita. But it's not a contest, either for the good or bad. None of us are headed in the right direction. :( This is a graphic from the CTV News website showing the overall distribution of cases:

Yes. However, it's the provincial daily cases now that I'm referring to upthread.

Mississauga, Ontario here

While schools have cases, they are NOT spreading in the classrooms. I know of a case up close, no spread. Another class, they were asked to get tested before returning and so far so good. Just isolated to the one case. I have kids in 2 schools and work part time in 1 of their schools. Once a case is diagnosed, that class shuts down and isolates for 2 weeks and the teacher teaches virtually during that time. We are in a very high case area, between 3-500 daily. I’m pretty happy with how the schools are doing.

I'm in Niagara and while our cases has risen its not crazy high. Since you are in Mississauga was wondering if you have any idea why cases are so high in your area. I know population wise there is more people in the Toronto area compared to here but cases shouldn't be that much higher then here.

A lot of multi generational families living together. Very dense population, Mississauga is in the top 10 if not 5 population wise for the country. Oh and a lot of cases are in Brampton, we like to blame them ;). Of 400 cases, 300 will be Brampton, a few in Caledon which is a small area north of Brampton, and just under 100 in Mississauga. Another reason I’ve heard is Brampton is home to a lot of essential workers, health care or retail or anything public facing. Combine that with the multi generation homes, it’s not good.

Mayor Patrick Brown of Brampton said in a radio interview this am that Brampton's transportation system for some of the above mentioned work force is coupled with factories in the area, and trucking of food products et al. make Covid control very difficult.

When I go into Brampton or even Mississauga it’s as if leaving Canada.

IMO that it seems so many have this outrageous belief in a conspiracy theory that it's being down to control us.
That's interesting because honestly it's practically unheard of for me to see people my age spouting this. It's much more common for me to hear it from 60 and up. When I've seen younger people it's a direct result of close relatives they have influencing them. Now this is purely my experience, purely an observation and not meant to be a blanket statement.

I do see adaptability in mask wearing easier with younger individuals but situations in which they really should be wearing masks and social distancing they are not exactly doing that; shopping for groceries totally easy to wear masks, hanging out with friends eh they may not see that as as important even though both you should be doing.

I work a second job in a retail store and Saturday was my first full shift since the mask mandate started. In my 8 hour shift I only seen one older gentleman with out a mask, since we have a a greeter at the door I am not sure if he had a medical reason or if he took a mask off once he was in. When I went up to talk to him and offer him a mask he was at the till. Most of the kids in the store had masks on as well and everyone I had come through my till I would complement them on their mask and tell them what a great job the did at keeping it on. It was nice to have some conversations with the younger kids, I went and put my Forky mask on and they all loved that made them all very chatty hehe...

All of this is all so stressful and confusing, I am just going to thank all my customers and their little ones for wearing a mask to keep each other safe and maybe it will rub off on some of the others that think it is a waste of time.

Winnipegger here (for those that don’t know)

Our cases are still rising by leaps and bounds and it’s mostly from ltc now. There are cases in schools, but no outbreaks. I think that’s why schools remain open.

Honestly, today, I think we’d better start planning on a household only Christmas which breaks my heart. Ive been looking to spending time with my daughter (well distanced) but now I don’t think it will happen. I’m the one who’s high risk, amd I’m willing to take a ‘risk’ (we’d be masked and on opposite sides of the room) but her biggest fear is passing it on to me. She doesn’t have it, and she’s isolating as much as possible, but there’s always a slight risk.

:(

Kudos, and hugs all around. We have not been in our two dgd's company since March but everyone's comfort/safety zone is respected and worth it.

It is worth it in the long run, but that sure doesn’t make it any easier.

Wish me luck tomorrow is Seniors day and I think that will be a different story. :rolleyes1
How is it acceptable to say this (bolded)? Put another group of people in there instead of seniors and it’s not hard to see the ageism there.

Where I am seniors wear their masks as well as anyone else. Personally I find it very sad to see someone in their 80s or higher in the grocery store shopping by themselves wearing a mask. But they do it.

I REPORTED IT!

My interpretation is that your students (for the exception of 20-29 year olds) and elders are the adamant observers of protection. Alarming to me is our news comparing Alberta's numbers to Ontario's. While we are larger and more heavily/densely populated Alberta of late is riding circles around us. Did I hear that right?
There was a big data dump from the weekend today - yes, now Alberta officially reports more new cases than Ontario. Here's today's headline:
540043

Why? :rolleyes1 If it's a reference to the number of ethnic people that live there, well...maybe you haven't travelled around Canada enough. Come visit Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Montreal, Halifax - all with very vibrant, multi-cultural populations. And more and more now, newcomers to Canada are choosing to settle in smaller and more remote places away from the major cities. They, as much as anyone, are in fact what make Canada the country we're all so proud of.

I was going to say that White Cat must live in a very different (sheltered?) version of Canada than the one I lived it, if Mississauga and Brampton are like leaving Canada.

Seriously, they look like a carbon copy of Montreal to me. That post seriously bothered me, then I remembered those who like to push your buttons, and I laughed. Canada is definitely multi-cultural, and boy it is wonderful! 🇨🇦

And I miss it so much (currently living in Switzerland which is much less multicultural).

On topic - Switzerland is currently one of the worst countries in terms of new cases (when adjusted for population size). We've gone back on partial lockdown, but nowhere near what we were like in March (Switzerland had one of the lowest rates during the first wave). Our lockdown has never been as strict as our neighbours (I mainly know France since I'm less than 10km from the border and many of my co-workers live in France).

As of today, Victoria officially has zero known active COVID cases. Our final 2 were an elderly husband and wife who have been in hospital since early October. They thought they mightn’t survive and even got an exemption for their daughter to visit, but the wife was discharged last Thursday and the husband last night. If we have no cases for the next 3 days we will reach 28 days and be considered to have eliminated local transmission. Undoubtedly we will get cases once we re-open to international arrivals next month (hopefully contained), but for now we are a happy bunch.
