Well at least they’re planning on bringing it back. Probably the most “news” we’ve gotten in terms of the future status of APs since the closure.

Bringing it back with changes tho. They are going to change the SoCal offerings for sure I bet. What else changes I’m not sure. Will be interesting to see if any sort of premiere comes back. I expect emphasis on the flex type ticket.

Interesting use of language in that it says "membership offering" and not "annual pass"

Wonder if something like you pay a fee to joint and then get member rates on tickets

That was my immediate thought as well. They’re probably going to start limiting the amount that APs come into the parks. Not limiting, but controlling it with knowing which days they’re coming through reservations and what not. Idk, I think this could be good. Unless they actually do limit guests park days (not including blackouts), I can’t see a real downside. We all know price increases are coming, so I can’t really categorize that as being “bad”

Wow. “Sunset the current program” implies a pretty radical shift.

AP holders at DL are just a different ball game from WDW. Such a massive number of people who live within a reasonable (well, for CA) drive who pop in with their APs for an afternoon. I wonder if they’ll move away from the AP model and towards a more day ticket-based model. People won’t be happy!

At a minimum it’ll make it easier to deal with attendance when they get to reopen in a few years.

I think there will still be a membership aspect. People are more likely to buy an AP for $600 and go 10 times than have to buy 6 individual day tickets for $100 a piece. Day tickets are more of a sell for vacationers than locals.

So often my husband and I discuss we are so thankful that he was in CA in 2019 and not in 2020. We got to experience DLR twice during that year and various activities he did as a normal thing (like eat outside at this cute Mexican style place about a 10min walk from his apartment) would have been prohibited. And I likely wouldn't have visited at all (which I suppose would have actually been what CA would have preferred) because of the restrictions.

The trades wouldn’t get ahold of a scoop like this for a cameo. The only Cameo scoops we get are from the Spider-Man films, and that’s because no everyone is working under Feige in those productions. I think this is a return to the MCU. Whether it’s old cap or alt universe Cap, it’s most likely a multi film/show arc.

With the 'Secret Invasion' series planned for the MCU, we need to keep an eye on EVERY character in the current an ongoing MCU stuff for potential Skrulls. The Secret Invasion comic had Skrulls planted for years. I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually get a Skrull Cap and Tony

Just no Secret Empire Cap, please. I do like the comic series and feel it was underrated, but I don’t think it would adapt to the screen well at all. I’m also not sure they’d bring either of them back for Secret Invasion to play essentially a villainous role. I’m looking more at either a mentor role with Bucky and Falcon, or Secret Wars

yeah, as I mentioned they use the term "membership opportunities" a lot ... almost makes me think of like seat license for stadiums where you get your seat license ("membership") and then that let's you have the opportunity to buy season tickets and other tickets

Wonder if it could be something like that where you become a member of Disneyland and then use that to have access to different ticket offerings - some might be like a traidtional annual pass but others could be like a 10-pack of tickets to use whenever (but you have to make reservations), etc.

Six Flags offers memberships in addition to season passes. Memberships are a pay every month like a subscription type deal even if you don't go (or the park is closed that month for seasonal parks). Companies like it since it gets you money coming in every month so is a much more steady money stream then $900 once every 12 months.

That would be a major announcement. I know it’s been held back for years due to rights issues, much like The Drew Carey Show. Seasons 4 and 5 never did get a release. I’m curious how popular it would actually be now.

There’s been a lot of wishful talk about a Muppets version of Gatsby lately.

The Muppets Presents Weird Al’s Presidential Extravaganza is probably not actually all that likely either.

Might be closer to the truth now.

Probably like the memberships at Six and SW, where it a monthly fee with different tiers. I don't really know why they like the memberships so much more than annual passes, but both push them hard.

Wow.

Again .. surprising they announce more bad news without any notice of what will replace it (like how they announced the removal of the Magic Express) .. but I would gather that they need to clear the books if they hope to open in the next few months (which I doubt California will let them). I guess they have the big problem of the minute they re-opened they would be flooded with local AP holders and trying to get a "reservation" would be a nightmare. And all the local AP holders wouldn't fill their hotels and not buy as much food or merch.

This officially says what we've all been thinking (and they have sorta admitted) .. Disney doesn't like annual passholders except when they do vlogs and instagram posts to help them advertise to their non-passholder vacationers. I get that a portion of passholders that are really local and can several times a week just to ride a few rides or get some "magic" don't spend as much money as a "normal" guest .. but at the same time, I am sure there are lots of AP holders that spend a lot of money BECAUSE they are saving so much on tickets .. on food, merch, snacks, etc.

I guess this means that WDW isn't going to start selling APs anytime soon either. Do we think once they flesh out this "membership" thing it will come to Disney world too and that will be the return of an AP to WDW?

I hope it is just a "monthly" thing and not some "seat license" deal like professional sports teams do . . unless Disney TRULY wants to limit the amount of passholders they have.

I can't imagine all the vloggers that have been starving for content out in California are happy at this. I am surprised some of them are still doing content after a year of no DL.
