New CDC Outdoor Guidance

Y’all, it’s lifted. It’s done. The CDC said no masks for fully vaccinated inside or outside no matter how large the crowd. This still leaves tons of questions which include what “private” businesses/companies decide to do. Also:
1. What about 11 years and younger, as there is no vaccine. Do they still need to mask?
2. What about those of us that had the virus and have either antibodies or T cell memory? Will their be “passports” fir us?
3. What about kids ( 11 and under) that have previously had the virus and have the antibodies or T cell memory?
4. Do we need “passports” to prove?
They said between vaccinations and natural immunity we have now reached “herd immunity” which means, in layman’s terms, that enough of us are vaccinated ( manufactured or natural) to “protect the herd” so even those without antibodies/t cell memory “should” be protected. I’m assuming that is where the “children 11 and under” will be covered.
Disney still has the “right” to set their own rules, but the CDC says “masks off”

Two things here...

1) We're approaching, or already past, peak vaccination rate in adults. Given supply availability it should be much >60%. There's a very good chance this peaks in adults in the 70% range.
2) 'of adults' matters in this context. Because that means there is a huge % of the population that is not vaccinated. And the kids of those adults who are going to choose to not be vaccinated will likely also not be vaccinated.

I don't see how any of those 2 lead us to herd immunity anytime soon. Hopefully I'm wrong.
People will continue to get vaccinated - some children will also, although not as many as the CDC would like - given the low risk. The US has done it's part - it's just a matter - a short matter of time before this is an non-issue. The population has had it with masks and social distancing - you can't put the horse back in the barn on this one - it's over. And you would think that everyone should be happy it's coming to an end???

Isn't there an agreement with the employee union about masks? I'm not sure about that but it might play into when/if Disney lifts the requirement.

I've been fully vaccinated and so has my hubby and we are both beyond the two week limit. I think were I to go back to WDW (I was there in April) any time in the next few months, even if they lift the mandate, I'd probably still wear one on inside rides and maybe in jam packed crowded outside situations. I'm not worried about myself but the science says you can still get the virus if vaccinated you just might not know it. I would hate to think I was walking around with it and giving it to someone else for not putting a mask on inside. I agree outside it's not necessary and haven't worn one outside at home ever, I'm in Georgia and it was never required, but did always stay at least 6 ft. away from neighbors or others when outside if I could. Hubby read an article today that a baseball team (I can't remember who) had a manager and a number of members test positive and they had all been vaccinated.

I doubt it because it would be tough to enforce two sets of rules. "No Masks for vaccinated" people would be no masks because everyody would just claim they are vaccinated.
At this point if you are an adult and not vaccinated that’s on you. I’ve done my part and worn a mask for a year. People can go on wearing one if they want to but it’s time to get back to normal.

Yeah but it’s getting old. Vaccines are readily available now & now even open to kids 12 & up so now if you’re not vaccinated & choose not to wear a mask, then that’s on you (collective).

They did just say on the CDC conference today that all those who are immunocompromised should continue to mask. I assume as a cancer survivor ( big hugs to you all) and until a vaccine comes out you all will keep her masked❤

Your concern is appreciated, but after 3 months of being off treatment her immune system is as strong as it was before.

Not arguing that but I don't think disney is quite ready to say no masks required for anybody since this announcement is just about vaccinated people but I am sure there are discussions taking place.

Vaccines are only 95% effective. ( different numbers for different vaccines) They are lessening symptoms and preventing hospitalizations and deaths. Rarely are vaccinations 100 percent effective ( but they can be, as some are)

I’m ecstatic!!! It’s been a very very long 14 months ( or however long it has been) I’m just trying to figure out if I can take mine off right now?🤣

Exactly if the CDC says vaccinated folks can go maskless our jobs are done. Disney needs to do the right thing and waive mask requirements. Vaccines are readily available to those who want one, it's time they protect themselves.
its not for kids though. legitimate concern about how this is going to work.

My assumption means kids still have to wear masks, and i'm going to have a hard time making mine wear them without wearing mine...even though i'm vaccinated.

Mortality risk for those under 12 is less than the seasonal flu (rare); also studies indicate this group is the LEAST likely of all age groups to even catch COVID.
Exactly! I’m so tired of this argument! I’ve heard numerous virologist & epidemiologist say that young children are just not a major concern right now. DS is 3 so I have been really paying attention to this.

I see WDW throwing open the gates on capacity before making any mask changes. But with summer coming (and basically here temperature wise in FL) I do hope they find a way to drop the outdoor mandate ASAP. Regardless we have to admit Disney is going to have a heck of a time policing things now.

I assume just like over the past year with guests who could not/would not wear a mask, you can choose to reschedule at a later date that is more comfortable for your family.

People are asking how can Disney check that you are vaccinated. To me, that's not the point of the CDC guidance. It's not to give you a way to prove to another entity you don't need a mask and might could fake it. It's about "proving" to yourself that it's safe to do something. So the CDC has now told you that this is the way to make sure you're safe at Disney or anywhere else.

The purpose of the mask mandate at Disney is to make sure they are doing everything in their power to keep you safe. If the CDC has said, you're safe if you get a vaccine, there is no point for a mask mandate any more in my opinion. I went online to make an appt for my 13 year old today at a Walgreens. There are 10 in my town and all had 20+ appointment spots for TODAY. If you want a vaccine, you have had every opportunity to get it at this point. Only the under-12 crowd can't get a vaccine at this point and we know their level of risk is extremely low, but certainly you can still have them wear a mask or even not come if you feel like there's too much risk. It's now a matter of personal responsibility for your health and risk and time for companies to follow the science and guidance and stop mandating things.

This exactly. My husband and I are vaccinated but my 8 year old isn’t. We will wear masks with her since it would feel weird to have her wear one but mom and dad don’t. I don’t think Disney will lift the indoor requirement until the 11 and unders at least are eligible. I could see outdoor requirement going away sooner
