We are losing the Magic

Honestly the entertainment cuts were the worst in my opinion. Not things they cut because of the pandemic but this started before COVID(Buridika comes to mind). I will be shocked if the Grand FL society orchestra is back, and they’d be idiots if they didn’t bring back YeeHaw Bob, he packs that usually empty lounge at POR. But they aren’t necessarily making smart decisions these days.
Grand Floridian orchestra and yeehaw bob are examples of “western civilization” and are not the kind of entertainment Disney wants to highlight if they can help it. Right up there with the fife band (My personal favorite) they eliminated at the American pavilion in Epcot. Too “American.”

Don’t think there is any agenda outside of the bottom line. Musicians are most likely unionized (so fairly compensated) which isn’t something Chapek seems interested in.

So if someone rides that, they will spend 3/8 hours the park is open on one ride…Hope the ride feels worth 3/8 of the park ticket. Expensive rides.

Which is why they are offering guests a chance to pay to avoid that. I know, it was free and now it is not. But a lot of people never got FPs to some of these rides and at least the new system does give one an option that wasn’t there before.

But they will actually be spending more per hour. Remember, it will be on top of ticket price, on top of Genie +, etc. so basically it could push your price for a one day ticket to over $200 for what was $95 a couple years ago.

The biggest reason Disney has soured for us is the crowds. The greed, packing in as many people as possible. I can remember not too, too long ago when a 60 minute stand by wait time was too much for us to tolerate. Now, it's not unusual to see 120 and up. The crowds and the long wait times, we find ourselves getting frustrated and cranky.
I don't disagree the the crowds have been a detractor but I feel like Disney has been doing what they can to discourage crowds. Raising prices, less discounts, etc.

We're hearing in numerous threads about how "Disney is no longer for the middle class" which is exactly what needs to happen if we want crowd sizes to be smaller.
Last month when I was at AK, the wait for FoP was 3 hours!
Pre-pandemic the FOP line was frequently 3 hours. We saw that wait time during our trip in January 2019.

That comparison is slightly apples to oranges due to the lack of fastpass now but I'm sure during the summer in 2019 it often crept above 3 hours.

Disney can limit # of people entering the parks to a less stifling number. They pack 'em in to get as much $ as possible. Yes, it's a business, but for me, it's no longer fun. It's frustrating, fighting the crowds, waiting on absurdly long lines. So, they're losing a long time customer (been going yearly since it opened). But for every customer lost, they'll gain 2 more. The almighty buck drives it all. I never in a million years thought I'd give up on my happy place...but here we are.

Pre pandemic the wait was 3 hours because 80% of capacity went to FP+, which meant everyone had a chance to skip the line. (I once rode FOP 6 times in a day refreshing the app, could have been more but I got bored after the 6th).

Now wait time is 3 hours because they've raised park capacity before restoring all attractions and show that soak guests

In the future wait time will be 3 hours unless you pay to skip the line.

everyone had a chance to skip the line
Well, not quite everyone.

FoP capacity is estimated between 1200-1500, so let's use the upper number. An average AK operating day in 2019 was 9-8 or 9-9, so let's say 11.5 hours of operation per day. So, if nothing goes wrong (no mechanical downtime, no Code V cleanups, etc.) about 14,250 guests per day can ride FoP. 80% of that is 11,400.

AK's estimated attendance in 2019 was just a shade under 13.9M people, or about 38,000 per day. So, about 30% of the people who walked through the gates could skip the line, while less than 40% of those people could ride it at all. And that's assuming no one rides it twice.

Or six times.

I guess they all had a chance, but not all of those chances will come up sevens.

I know but our family was never lucky enough to get FOP FPs. So, there were a few trips no one rode because of the wait time being too long because we were not there at rope drop.

At least now, those that wanted to ride it could pay if it meant a lot to them to do it.

Again, I know it added money and people have to decide whether it would be worth it, but had paid been an option in July for ROTR…which we could not get, I would have gladly paid since My friend had really hoped to try it as she is a huge Star Wars fan and won’t be back for a few years.

All you are hearing officially is that Disney has cut alot of stuff that was free before such as MDE, fast passes, in park musicians etc. But you haven't hear one word that Disney is increasing the salary of the regular park employees.

That’s going to be tough if you travel with friends/family and people in same party can’t or won’t afford same things.

Magical Express including luggage was especially good for me who has difficulty walking, and walking with luggage is nearly impossible. Ditto many of my friends. We have a Gals trip in December, 2 able bodied friends, 3 of us challenged, we’ll manage I am sure, but this is as young as we’ll ever be!

I think renting a car if the push luggage racks are readily available may be what we can do.

Agree…but that is true now for certain things at the parks when traveling in groups.

Simply saying that the new paid options for IAS for those really hard to ride rides…and ones that even FP+ For BGs did not yield results, people have a new way to avoid 3 hour waits.

There should be skycaps there to help you cart it down to the shuttle. Just tip them 10 bucks or whatever to cart it down for you. (Disclaimer: I haven't looked for them recently but they're usually around with the big carts.)

If you decide to rent a car (which are much cheaper now finally), send one person (or 2, whatever is easiest) to get the vehicle and just drive up to level 2 where the curbside arrivals pickup is and everyone else can just grab the bags and walk right out the door. Does anyone know if rental cars are open on terminal B again? The last time I flew in a few months ago it was still terminal A only, so if you pick up luggage on terminal B, it'd be quite a haul. Hence, send someone to get the car and bring it around.
