New Disney World AP Pay and get less?

Someone on the News forum pointed out you only need to get one Photopass per person in your family - so there is at least that.

where is that stated?
i thought you need photopass for everyone in the group so that attraction photos are included.

I wonder how this impacts purchased but not yet activated Platinum Annual Passes. We still have 2 APs (one for each of us) that have not yet been activated. Will those still be granted the full benefit described when they were purchased? I think the main difference is that Platinum AP includes Photopass downloads vs this new thing that does not.
I just contacted Disney with this very question. We have AP vouchers not activated as well. The cast member I spoke to said that when activated, they would basically be as purchased, including Photopass. The difference would be if you were to renew them..then it would be on the new system.

Comparing the DVC Gold AP to the new Sorcerer's pass. Sorcerer's has different blackout dates (none over Easter, but now includes Thanksgiving weekend) but the Gold AP has none over Thanksgiving. Loss of Memory Maker. Higher price tag (Gold was $719, Sorcerer's is $899!) and this is after they raised prices $20 right before the shutdown.

and you'll have to pay for genie+ at least some of the time

I am getting so discouraged with all these add on prices Disney is expecting. But people just keep paying for it all...the "new" Winter celebration (old Xmas) price is so ridiculous. I just don't understand any of this.
It’s just business math, they’re finding the customer’s breaking point- and they haven’t found it yet. Higher prices equal higher margins until a decrease in business leads to too few sales to math out. Think of the party. Double the prices, lose half the customers and then pay half the CMs you used to because you only have half the customers. Higher profit.

So if you're renewing an out of state Platinum pass, the only differences are:
  • a slight (relatively speaking!) price increase
  • no more PhotoPass
  • 5 days of park reservations not connected to a resort stay (instead of 3)
Does that sound right? Or am I missing something?
Yes, that is basically it. I will miss having a resident rate for the top pass, if I renew next year. My current pass expires next May, and I have no plans to purchase anything related to Genie. Depending on how that pans out, I may or may not renew.

The fun part is that if they do find the breaking point - they can't just lower the price.

I think the closest they've ever come to that was the year they gave everybody a bonus month.

I think they actually are. But people equate 100% capacity with a very crowded day. People don't know what true 100% capacity is like. It's a two hour wait for a hot dog and a 1/4 mile long line for the restroom.
I remember a Christmas where Small World had a 75 minute wait. Small World. (Where do you even put a 75-minute-long line for that?)

Yep this is absurd. Thankfully we just activated our passes August 14th so this is a 2023 problem for us (we use them to get 2 years worth of trips)

but still. Eesh. It goes from $2800 to $3600 for 4 passes. That’s a tremendous increase

and we have a group of 9 that i'll have to buy sorcerer's passes for.
an extra $200 per ticket plus photopass, plus genie +......fun times.....we're getting very very close to our tipping point..
even my daughter who hates universal said that she thinks maybe the next trip should be to universal...

I purchased DVC last year when new AP's were not being sold. I have a trip booked for the 50th at the end of September, and purchased 7 day park hoppers for my husband and I at the time of my reservation . Can I apply the cost that I paid for these tickets towards AP's? Do I call DVC or guest services? TIA!

More blackout dates. No memory maker. No walk right in. Increased pricing with more add-on costs.
It'll be interesting to see what happens after the cooped up feeling is gone. DVC points get caught up and the 50th anniversary is over. I have a feeling parks numbers will dwindle dramatically.
Maybe the stockholders will some day realize that "reimagining" programs and alienating a major client base, a loyal one at that, will not be good for a bottom line. All due to the Chapek style of management.

Disappointed there's no Genie+ included but I'm not surprised. No photo pass, no integrated Genie+. I guess the park reservation system is due to covid (seemingly at least), but I really am beginning to wonder if it will be a permanent change.
