My guess is yes. It was our first time staying on property but when we reserved we had an email sent that we had to sign and submit back (I want to say it was electronic signature). I know this isn’t much but I hope it helps a little bit.
Sorry you experienced this disappointment - I know how discouraging that can be when you look forward to a vacation and read so many rave reviews. As others said, issues can occur even at the best rated places - especially these days.
I am honestly puzzled at this paperwork and email signature process you mention. I'm not doubting you experienced this, but I just booked at RP 2-3 weeks ago for my next trip in a couple of months from now and received what I always do when I stay there: an email confirmation showing my ressie dates and the first night's room cost charged to my credit card. Same process as always.
I really hope that email you signed and sent back wasn't some sort of phishing thing or scam that had nothing to do with RP proper? I'm just honestly confused as RP doesn't do this normally - can't imagine what they wanted you to sign or what you were signing for?
But the good news is that you used a credit card, so you're totally protected if something fishy is going on.
