Well SW changed my return flight from Hawaii on 6/18. Flight time is fine, the problem is there is now only 1 flight leaving that day and it’s showing as unavailable…I just got my CP so I’m unable to add my DD to the reservation. I’m torn between holding out hope that a seat opens or messaging and asking if I can switch the flight to the day before or after.

I wouldn't change it just yet. I would give it a week to ten days and monitor to see if space opens up on the flight you really want. You should be able to change your flight as part of their reaccomodation practices without an issue, so there's no need to rush to do it. Unless of course you are concerned about room on the other flights.

I asked a question on Reddit about transferring MRs to Marriott and I got a comment that it's a bad use of MRs. They scare me on Reddit so I didn't follow up. I thought I would ask opinions here on transferring MRs to Marriott? If you don't transfer them, what do you do with them?
I also got a load of downvotes for posting my question in the wrong place - ooops.

I transfer MRs wouldn't do so to Marriott, especially with the new devaluation. I transfer MR to airline programs and occasionally to Hilton to top up for an award. I had to transfer 10,000 MR for a 5 night award booking for San Diego for December. With the transfer ratio of 5 MR= 6 Bonvoy you need at least .85cpp on the redemption to get 1 cpMR.

I have transferred MRs to Marriott, i don’t care about value. I earn points for travel not to get the best value.
If you have a plan for the Marriott points then transfer them.

I use most of my MRs for flights as PP said-for international flights (most recent transfers to KLM and Singapore Air) but also to Delta (I've burned through about 750K over the past two years).

That said, if I have a Marriott points redemption in mind and need to top off then there's no shame in transferring MRs-I just did that for a (hopeful) stay in Edinburgh--it is a good redemption if you're a believer in cpp (1.75) but more importantly because it was the room in the hotel I wanted when I wanted. While conventional wisdom would say it's a "waste" remember if it's valueable to you for whatever reason, then it's a "good" use.

I'd transfer some if I needed the points for a specific stay I was planning if I was short, but otherwise I prefer to do other things with them (namely, booking flights, mostly overseas). As you can read, Bonvoy is a mess, so I don't think there's great value to be had with Marriott these days, but sometimes it's the place you want to stay and if you can do it with points then it's not a bad idea. I think they meant that you can get better value from them by doing other things.

Now I am really mad at Southwest. They sent me a $250 voucher for all the trouble I experienced (same amt they sent us last fall for a cancelled flight and the same amt they provided my friends' family last weekend). I think I deserve more for 5.5 hrs of wait time and leaving 24+ hrs later, but I am willing to accept it. The slap in the face is the fact they only sent me $150 for the juvenile family member traveling with me. I contacted them again and told them his lesser compensation is completely unacceptable. I have been exclusively loyal to SW for almost 20 years (since I left my employment with Delta), and I understand things happen that are out of an airline's control, but offering less compensation to one passenger is just terrible.

Anyone else a victim of the Great Southwest Spring Break Meltdown that started yesterday and continues today? They cancelled my flight for this afternoon at 11:30 last night. After 4 hours on hold (3:30 am), I was able to get through only to have the computer crash while I was on the phone. Luckily I was able to stall a few minutes and it started working again. I was able to get a flight tomorrow night… that gets in at 2:00 am Mon.

I was so tired I forgot to ask them to add the early bird check in to the new flights. So I’m currently waiting again with another 120+ wait time. Woke up this morning and their computers crashed again and delayed all flights this morning. What. A. Mess.

Luckily, I used my CSR and so far I’m only out about $50 for the higher rental car price. They are blaming ATL traffic control for all the cancelled flights yesterday but other airlines flew.
Chiming in late as I'm still getting caught up, but we did as well. We were at WDW for the Spring Surprise weekend and had a horrible experience on the way home. I'm so bummed about Southwest. They used to be a great airline, but they have really taken a nose dive the past few months with flight cancellations, flight changes, the elimination of any long haul flights, and not-so-great flight crews. We usually love SW flight attendants, but we had two of the worst crews ever both going and on our return.

We flew back on Monday and the best we could do was a two stopper. On the second leg we were supposed to stay on the plane, but after arriving we were informed that we had to deplane as we didn't have a pilot. They were going to try to find one for us. We were supposed to take off at 10 pm and didn't take off until after 1 am. We didn't arrive home until 2:40 am (i.e 5:40 am florida time). It was absolutely miserable sitting in the gate area without much information. All these multi-stop flights just increase the likelihood of something going wrong. I have a companion pass but even with that I think I'm going to be looking at other airlines until they can figure it out. So disappointing.
got the dreaded SW flight change email. June non stop to Nashville is no more. ugh from PHL. very frustrating, layover in Chicago. and leaves 4 hours earlier!
hoping they don't change return but not getting my hopes up

I just cancelled my SW cards, with the elimination of so many non stops just not worth it. even with my CP

sheree
I totally agree. Do they even have any nonstops that go farther than a couple hours? They used to have multiple nonstops from the Bay Area to the East Coast, but now there is nothing. The only flights we can get nonstop now are to Hawaii (because they can't stop halfway, LOL). I have a companion pass, but I probably won't be using it much going to Orlando--just Hawaii and west coast stops.

I just transferred MR's to Marriott so that I could book our Thanksgiving trip. I know all the bloggers and hard-core points people will tell you it's a bad use of MR's but I say if it works for your plans, do it! We have more airline points that we will use in the immediate future so no need for us to transfer them to an airline. If it works for your travel plans and points, just do it!

its typically a bad idea to transfer MRs to Marriott as MRs to other partners can be worth more. marriott tends to value 1 point at around $.005 at max while an MR is usually worth $.02.

free is free though, choice is up to u. but suggest looking around first, ie see if its cheaper to book on cash and redeem points to cover. usually doing this way, 1 MR is worth $.007. if you have a CS plat, redeeming it to cash at $.011 is worth doing then pay with cash, u can earn points also on top. or try booking via amex portal.
lots of options to choose room, lots of math to do.

You should be able to change it on the website.
Yes, I just noticed that I can change the date to pretty much the entire month of June.

I am going to hold out. There was some openings show up on additional flights the day before and after. However when I click on them, there’s only a few seats left (Friday has 2 seats left and Sunday 8)
Is it possible for me to book a flight for one of those days and still hold my original flight? Or does SW not like it if I’d have 2 of the same flight itineraries on back to back days?

You can book a flight for one of those days as well…….since SW started having issues last year cancelling flights at the last minute I’ve been booking a backup flight for the day after my preferred travel dates…

On hold with SW right now…they changed a flight on 6/24, but unfortunately it’s not letting me move to another flight online..had hoped for a short wait at 6:30am…but 30 minutes later still waiting…

Edited to add…waited 55 minutes CSR was super helpful and made the change

To all of you who had terrible experiences flying recently, let me just share, it's not any better for your crews (which is why likely they are moody too). I'll share what the BF went through this week.....

Tuesday he gets a call asking if he'll take extra pay for a trip. He got offered the extra pay because 1- they called him on his day off to ask, 2- because it's outside of his "reserve time". He accepted. Day 1 leg was DTW-MCO-PHL. He sees on Weds his trip is delayed 4 hours. He calls scheduling and asks why is it delayed and can he report later (as he sees the plane is sitting at the gate). They don't tell him anything other than he has to still report on time. He gets a text later from a random guy saying the flight is being held for him. The BF has no clue who this guy is, and why they are holding it. He gets to the airport crew room and his crew is all there but the FO. DTW is a base, but rather than call for an FO they have the entire crew and passengers waiting 4 hours for an FO to fly in. So can you imagine being told you have to sit 4 hours? They aren't getting paid for this sit either! (for the BF it doesn't matter since he's reserve, but if you have a line, you're literally sitting and not getting paid).

The 4 hour delay now makes BF unable to fly his second leg, MCO to PHL. They apparently decided to replace the CA for that flight since MCO is a base (but didn't do it in DTW, also a base, for the missing FO). This now means the BFs trip is messed up. He's now overnighting in MCO. It also means he's not flying the PHL to LAX leg of his trip. See how this all snowballs? They decide to put the BF on a double deadhead (MCO - MSY - LAX) to get him out to LAX now to fly the last leg back to DTW. BF (partly being proactive, partly being a DIVA), goes to MCO early yesterday morning to jumpseat on the direct MCO-LAX Delta flight. Crew scheduling won't release him to do it. So now he has to go back to the hotel and wait for his 2 flights later in the day. He also racked up $100 in ubers they have to pay for, and they now have to arrange transportation for his later flight. Oh and pay for a hotel room longer.

Storms were in FL yesterday afternoon, so by the time his MCO to MSY flight comes around, it's delayed...4 hours. His layover in MSY was 2 hours meaning he's going to miss his flight to LAX. At this point he's just laughing and hopes it all implodes. Scheduling apparently realizes this at some point and books him on a SW flight MCO-MSY, but again...it too is delayed! It lands 1 hour after the LAX flight takes off. At this point Spirit actually cancels the original flight they had him booked on (MCO to MSY). The BF was sitting on the SW flight when scheduling called him. He told them, sorry the door is shut, LOL. No idea what they wanted him for, LOL.

I think at this point Spirit held the MSY-LAX flight for him to get on it and get to LAX as they were showing it leaving an hour late. And as far as I know at like 2am EST he got to LAX. But his morning started at like 7am EST with him trying to get there. So again, can you see why crews would be grumpy? And FAs are treated WAY worse! Pilots can just go book a hotel, or get an uber and get reimbursed. FAs not as easy. There is so much common sense lacking. If they just got an FO in DTW, so much would have been saved. If they let him on the delta flight, so much would have been saved. If they made the pilot who flew PHL to LAX do the LAX to DTW flight, again, so much would be saved. Likely that pilot now will deadhead to wherever, etc. But again, through all of these decision, any delay the crew isn't getting paid.

I felt so frustrated for the BF yesterday. So while it sucks (and yes, I still get upset) when your vacation is messed up, so is someone's work day! That said, I'm sure I'll still go off on AA anytime they cancel on me, LOL.

Oh and I want to say during meltdowns, CAs/crews don't have the authority to make much decisions. You can literally have a crew sitting there cancelled and a plane waiting on a crew and they won't allow them to take the flight. It's so messed up. And most schedulers are still working for home, so for every decision they call in and have to wait on hold for 30 min to hear back from a supervisor who doesn't know the whole story and 9 times out of 10 just say no!

I almost feel like my job after teaching needs to be making the airlines more efficient in common sense, LOL. Yes, if your BOS flight that was now cancelled is in LAS instead, it's a hiccup. But atleast that's 1 flight that went somewhere and not 2 cancelled/delayed. I realize it's a huge puzzle with lots of moving pieces. But when a meltdown happens they lose track of the crews period. They will call a crew for a flight out of Chicago and they are sitting in DC. It happens with all the airlines. Once crews are out of place, they are almost lost.

Oh and in the case of last week/weekend, a lot of crews didn't have hotel rooms as they were all booked. So they were sleeping in the airport like passengers. A huge overhaul needs to be done on all fronts!

Hey guys! I've decided (finally) to join daughter at Disney on Monday!

Decided yesterday when all 3 kids said GO!

Anyway, this morning switched the reservation from Bay Lake Towers to the Polynesian. It was meant to be. I was looking for another date and saw it accidentally. Standard room and another extra 18 points, but what the heck! You only live once.

And, my big reason - 4 of us in a BLT studio - squishy! Been there done that. Part of reason I was waffling on going.

Polynesian has the queen bed, the Murphy bed/couch, and the drop down bed. Plus the extra shower. Yes, please!

Anyway, are they doing room service at Disney restaurants yet? Anyone know? And, I've got to run to Staples and buy a couple of DGCards, don't let me forget!

Leaving tomorrow and spending a night in Daytona, then picking girls up at the Port. Driving part way tomorrow so 2 points nights on the road. One night at a Hyatt and one night at a Marriott property. Last one is hopefully a good choice for my beach walk and balcony coffee.

Wait - I had that disney card 5%....have to check to see if I signed up/activated. I sort of shrugged when I saw the email, but stuff changes.

DH got an email offer to open a Chase Business Complete checking acct; $750 bonus for depositing $20,000 for 60 days and making 5 transactions. They wouldn't let us open it online with a sole proprietorship. I don't think he will want to go into a branch to do it and have to talk about his business which is basically selling some books and other things online. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the in-branch process?

I need your expert help with SW LUV Vouchers. So back in January, we volunteered to take a later flight coming back from cruise. It was Me, DS23 and DD20. We each got the following vouchers.
1-$500
1-$300
1-$200
1-$121
So, each of us has $1121 to use. I understand you can use these for anyone and they are not tied to your name.

We have a cruise in December and the flights will come out in June. We need flights for 4. But we should also have DH's Companion Pass shortly, so only need to book for 3. I thought you could only use 3 vouchers per transaction. So, does that mean I would need to book everyone separately or is there a way to book us all together and still use the vouchers that way. ( I would book one -way flights).

I just want to be prepared for when the flights come out and hopefully, know what I am doing. Used points tons of times, Never used vouchers.
