And the Aruba trip (older DD's weekend in Aruba) drama continues.

She had finally arrived at the Renaissance in Aruba after sleeping on a bench at JFK after a delay caused a missed connection.

Yesterday, the Flight home taxied away and then braked hard and stopped. Passengers were deplaned.
Delay, delay, cancel until today.
Everybody to the Holiday Inn.
$15 voucher for dinner.
$15 voucher for breakfast both at HI.

Today Flight leaves at 11ish.
Lands at JFK at almost 5.
Connecting flight to BWI was canceled.
Booked to DCA.
That got canceled.
Rebooked - that got canceled.
Last flight at 915 is sold out.
(probably will be canceled - weather)

She says I should get a bus.
I said no, get them to get you another flight tomorrow and a room tonight as your delay was due to their mechanical failure and why you are here in the middle of weather issues. Not sure she'll press it or sleep on a bench. No minutesuites at jfk.

I was thinking of @calypso726 when she ubered 700? miles in Scotland I think it was or was it $700 pounds for the cost? And CSR covered it? Maybe I've got sketchy details on that but she's my hero.

Anyway, ridiculous!!!

She's now in line for Sky Club.
I'm south of you but the weather has been crazy here.

And this is why I just don't feel like planning anything right now. Across the board the airlines are understaffed and so if anything disrupts the schedule it ripples. And there is no short-term solution. I hope she gets home and that she had a fantastic trip.

Which page did you end up doing for fp and how was it? I'd like to do one in nov but I don't like the menus. It's not styles of food I like so it's not even a matter of not eating part of it. I've been try to keep up on the dlr board and am aware of no subs at country bear. I could sorta find something at blue bayou but I can't get past the price when I'd only eat the steak and nothing else. Much prefer dessert party options.

Course this all won't matter if they are only doing one showing since I'm not wasting a ton of time to sit and wait for it. Or if msep is still going, that is priority one.

Eta just catching up on the dlr board and a couple people have been able to sub burgers at hungry bear, which is good to see.
For Fantasmic? We did the premium package at River Belle. The food was pretty good but it was all about the seat for me. We did the MSEP package at Plaza Inn. I knew it was just a reserved area and it was risk that I'd be jammed in next to people while I had an arm in a sling. It worked out, wasn't too crowded but I sat on the curb which was difficult and uncomfortable (I'm old lol and trying to sit on the ground then get back up with a broken arm isn't easy). I'd gladly pay for the dessert party for WOC and the premium package for Fantasmic again. Probably even without an injury. (Although I doubt I'd do all 3 on one trip due to cost).
I'm so glad you had a good time and so sad I wasn't able to offer any advice before your trip!

My younger son and I will be going with my sister and her family in October (for a few years that was an annual trip for us) and we are staying at the BW Anaheim in which I actually prefer over the BWPPI because I love the breakfast patio or whatever you'd call it.
We had a pretty great time, all things considered. You offered plenty of advice in the past (I bookmarked many posts because this was originally a 2020 trip.) I didn't mind the Anaheim Inn, the rooms were a bit small but breakfast was a good bonus (lots of choices).

You don’t have to MDD the Ink cards since you can have all of them…unlike the Sapphire cards where you can only hold one…

But aren't they 1/30 so could you dd/mdd them to get around that. I don't think I've ever seen anything about doing that. Why if you are using a sw biz and a personal to get cp you are strongly encouraged to do the biz first to get out of the 1/30 thing.

I did something y'all will find funny. My husband loves apple pay and convinced me to get one.
I was excited when they approved me instantly but I have an android
I didn't think anything of it until I did research I should've done beforehand. Apple pay doesn't work on androids...such a DUH moment! So now I have to carry my iPad if I want to use it. :teeth::teacher:

I also got the Amazon CC. I didn't realize it was through chase, Does this count toward 5/24?
Also, Do Amazon cards also get Chase promos like other Chase cards?

When you say you were "approved instantly" for apple pay, I think you might mean you were approved for the Apple Card? ApplePay is an app on Apple phones which allows you to load most credit cards to your phone and pay with them. But these are very different things.

The Chase Amazon card counts towards 5/24; just about any personal credit card does, it doesn't have to just be a Chase card. If you did get an AppleCard, that also will count towards your 5/24 count, to my knowledge.

Yes, sorry the Apple card. Currently kicking myself.

My son just graduated from engineering school and our gift was a fund towards a vacation. I'm very proud of him. He and his gf chose to travel to Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Paris. They are traveling now and have multiple flights and trains scheduled over the course of their 13 day trip. I'm really excited for them and also hope they can just go with the flow being that it's only the two of them, if their plans get disrupted.

I never try to spend any extra time in an airport if I don't have to. I think I've scarred my son, because he is extra cautious about getting there super early. He made me drop him off at ORD 4 hours prior to his flight, even though they had boarding passes already issued, weren't checking any luggage and didn't have any COVID documentation which required review. :rotfl2: 15 minutes later they were through security and had 3:45 mins to kill. Their flight was delayed by about an hour... so make that 4:45 mins to kill.

I too don't have the urge to book any intensive travel over the next few months. We have a couple trips booked but they're pretty low key and just with our youngest ones. Southwest has been pretty good to us so far...

Well hopefully you are happy with any incentives you got for opening the cards. And lots of people like their shiny metal AppleCard, which you can carry around instead of that iPad. 😁 Don't sweat it. It's nice that you're in two player mode and so if you use up a slot for a card you didn't necessarily want, there's more slots to go around between the two of you.

Today I realized I missed a retention bonus (small bonus) by missing the spend by 14 bucks. So we are all making mistakes; I make my fair share all the time. That might be a fun question- what churning/travel hack mistake did you make that you're kicking yourself for?

OH, I'll play! Forgot to use the referral from DH for my last Chase card. Really kicked myself for that one.

We’re going to DL in august after the Grand Canyon and Joshua tree. I booked a WOC dessert party (it’s my 40th birthday and the rest of the trip is on points, splurge lol) and a hungry bear fantasmic package. I wanted the seated river belle on but wasn’t able to book it. Considered msep, decided to pass, we can just find a place for that I hope. Have finder alerts for fantasmic out.

Glad you had a great trip! Any other tips, we’ll take ‘em!

I never requested that CSR retention bonus they were handing out like candy during the pandemic.

I feel so much better! Thank you!

I once used a support link for an Ink from one of P2’s closed cards. 20,000 points we didn’t get.

I'm thinking of downgrading my husband's Sapphire Preferred to a Freedom Flex or Freedom Unlimited, waiting a month and then having him apply for a Sapphire Reserve.
He has had this since June 2016 and I am an AU

However, I applied for a CSP last year during the 100,000 SUB time (Sept. 2021) and made him an AU.
If he downgrades, then applies for the Reserve is he eligible for the sign up bonus since he technically received one last year as an AU? (And if he is still eligible for the SUB, can I refer him and get that bonus?)

I think I got the Fantasmic package with an alert (I did for one of them just not absolutely sure which one). Look over the DLR threads before you go, especially the genie + ones. It was a bit hard to understand some of the 'fishing' for extra LL passes but it clicked once we got there. Essentially we rope dropped (or close) most mornings, and just knocked out stuff that was short waits, made LL as soon as I could for after 1 in the opposite park (it will default to that time if you're hopping). Then kept looking for LL we wanted after that including when we went back to the hotel in the afternoons. When we returned to the park, usually had 2-3 LL to ride and again whatever had low waits. The ILL prices do vary (at least in DCA). I saw them at $12-18 for Webslingers and Racers. We did Racers after WOCone night because I really like it at night and we paid. We rope dropped the next morning for it and it went down, never go to ride that day. In hindsight glad we paid, but it irritates me to do so. Ropedropped Webslingers another day, which was loads of fun & although I scored poorly I could do it one handed. The only thing we didn't do was Rise of the Resistance. Would have attempted ropedrop but DS said he wasn't all that impressed when we rode at WDW and it broke down on us there a couple times (we were escorted out halfway through one time). He thinks it's not worth it and I'm definitely not paying $20 pp for it.
Have fun! (Splurging a bit is good sometimes!)

He didn't receive a bonus as an AU, you did as cardholder. If he's under 5/24 and hasn't had a CSP or CSR bonus in 48 months he's fine. (Also, in the future don't add each other as AU, it adds to 5/24 for personal cards. You can request a duplicate card using the app, just say damaged card, not lost card.)

You only have to wait 4 days after PCing the card or 30 days if you cancel the card. And by all means, he should use your support link unless you find a better offer without the support link.

That sounds like a wonderful trip! I'm in Boston now, hoping my "delayed" flight is just that and not cancelled (eek!). I have to say other than a delay of 40-ish min out of CDG (and when do those flights ever leave on time, lol) my flights from Madrid, Seville and Prague were all easy peasy with none of the chaos here. Maybe I was lucky or just chose to leave from the right places but flying in the US is much more stressful than where I was, for sure.

Your DS sounds like me-if I'm not 3 hours early, I feel like I'm late  . Let's just say I'm glad I have access to skyclub😂

WWYD? I just P2's CSR to a Flex... Got to do something with the CSP now (from MDD)....I'm honestly just trying to simplify to the max here (again, life) I will hold onto my own CSP, but other than that I want NO Af. And I have a fairly long list of sock drawer cards I have to keep track of and spend on every 6 months to keep them active. WIll I be sorry if I just outright cancel P2's CSP? Just looking for personal opinion here....
