This storm in the Gulf… now Hurricane Idalia

We were all at pop century during IAN, never again will I stay value. My DD and her DH are at the world now, suppose to come home on Wednesday night. At least they are at the GF in one of the new Mary poppins rooms and not pop.
I haven’t heard from them today on what is going on.

I know this airport isn’t used as much as MCO or Sanford, but St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29. The airport plans to reopen at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30. The airport is in a mandatory evacuation zone.

I used to work across the street from that airport. It’s on really low land adjacent to Tampa Bay and would definitely be affected if any storm surge occurs.

Our local shelters are getting prepped to open tomorrow. Evacuations are now recommended for our county west of I-75 for mobile/RV homes. The sandbag stations are open.

But, got back from Publix with no lines (thank goodness for full staffing). Tomorrow is bring in lawn furniture and lock down anything that can turn into a projectile. At least this year, I don't have to worry about my fence since I had it taken down this past winter.

And my generator tested just fine this afternoon.

We are here now and you would never know from the parks that anything is happening. It’s a beautiful, hot, sunny day and currently everything is as usual.

We are at Pop and have snacks in our room but I may pick up a few drinks to put in the fridge just in case but unless the path changes, not anticipating the parks will be affected too much except for rain.

My heart goes out to anyone with a trip planned that may have their flights impacted -- particularly the shorter trips where shaving off even 1 day is a big big deal.

We were impacted by Ian, Delta canceled our flights and we were only going for 3 nights (bringing our adult DS and SOs). We had to postpone the trip entirely and ended up going 2 months later after everyone's calendars could re-align. WDW was very good about helping us move things (although it took some work to get the resort we wanted) but it was a big disappointment and time consuming to fix things.

Landing at MCO shortly. I agree with your thinking. I do think that winds could impact things a bit as well, but I guess we’ll see.

That’s to be expected when booking a Disney world trip in August or September. Prices and crowds are lower but those are the trade offs. I’m here now but I won’t feel bad for myself because everyone always warns you of the potential hurricane during these months.

Our trip was in mid November, but yes -- when we book things in hurricane zones, that can happen. It can also be times when people can get the PTO worked out, which for us was 6 adults. We're traveling to the FL panhandle in late Oct and know there's chance we'll get impacted.

Good luck everyone!

You are exactly right. We *hopefully* have a flight coming in late Thursday night and will only be there until Monday morning so it's already a very short trip, but I did book it knowing it was hurricane season. Labor Day weekend was the main reason I picked this particular weekend since we would all be off work Monday anyways. DH is out of vacation days so I needed a Monday holiday for us to go. I hoped for the best weather when I booked it, but knew that it could turn bad at any minute. We are booked on DVC points, SWA for our flights, and all other travel expenses are on my CSP card for travel benefits in case we have any disruptions.

I'm (selfishly) very optimistic that late Thursday flights will be A-OK. See you there!

I hope everyone in this storm's path stays safe. I live in Atlanta so hoping for minimal effects here as well. I am set to arrive at MCO at noon on Friday and leave Tuesday morning so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Orlando is missed so my best friend and I can continue on. It's my mini-40th birthday trip and we planned it 11 months ago. While my birthday is mid-September, I planned my bigger trip with my family and friends for mid-January since I didn't want to mess around with hurricane season, but I'll still be disappointed.

Our county just closed schools tomorrow and Wednesday. The storm surge is going to be nasty, and I hope that Cedar Key (one of local gems to visit) stays unscathed. But it looks like it's going to get smashed.

Little storm coming in now, but would agree - you wouldn’t think anything else was going on - CMs have been very positive and attentive today.

I hate to mention this, but has anyone been looking at the spaghetti models? A few of them are starting to show the storm going out into the Atlantic and then turning back and going over Florida a second time. Gosh, I hope they are wrong! :scared1:

I have decided to completely ignore those based on nothing scientific at all; just for the sake of my mental health.
