Do you use real or electric candles for your Advent wreath?

Real candles.
I made an Advent wreath about 60 years ago of plaster of paris with small pine cones and seed pods with candles. My mom could never bring herself to light them lest it destroy my wreath. 10 years ago after my mom passed away, my wife found it and it crumbled in her hands without the candles ever being lit.
Not sure candles are even "in" anymore. My oldest Granddaughter had her first advent wreath last Christmas and it chocolates on it. And someone here on the DIS was looking for the best place to buy an advent wreath with mini bottles of wine.

I believe they were looking for an advent calendar.

We used to buy advent calendars for the kids with chocolates in them when they were little.

Haven’t had an Advent wreath in a long time but when I did - I used real candles.

I have a wreath and real candles. Used it when the kids were growing up. But it's too big for my table and I've not set it up in a few years.

I used to help family make wreaths at church with real candles.

We're not big candle people, but we definitely use real candles on the Advent wreath. We always had one growing up, I had one as a single person, and we had one when the kids were growing up. DH and I haven't put one up as empty nesters. Maybe we'll go ahead and put it out this year.

I don’t have one - I have nowhere to put one.
I do enjoy looking at the one at church every weekend 🙂

I haven't bothered at home for just me the last few years, but I found it interesting that the Episcopalians use blue instead of purple for advent (still have the rose colored candle for week 3)

Some use blue, in my experience more use purple.

Interesting. Having grown up Catholic, only being Episcopal for 5 years, I have seen blue in the few churches I have been to, but my experience is limited. I like it - blue for Mary

We have two advent wraths, one in our dining room, more as a centerpiece, and one in our living room. up until now we’ve always used real candles. I would see the dining room with continue to be the same real ones but now that I think about it might be a good idea to get battery ones for the living room.

Heard of Advent calendars but never heard of an Advent wreath. Regardless of how you use real candles, I don't think it is safe to have them burning unless someone is actually in the same room to keep an eye on them. Some people burn candles in the bathroom or various rooms of their home which I have never thought to be a good idea. They make several types of battery powered candles which seem a lot safer.
