October/Halloween Trip Reports

The problem is the Fort is open to guests as well as the public due to the restaurant and movie. They only turned away non Fort guests due to the lack of parking. These outside groups are hatching plans to park at other locations and take the buses in. I for one don't understand why Disney invites other resorts to come in. We are not allowed to use other resorts amenities. But I don't own Disney and I am probably in the minority on this. Personally we love Halloween at the Fort and enjoy making kids happy with unhealthy sugar treats. It's just that last year got pretty overwhelming and if it gets worse then we probably won't participate. I hate having to add large amounts of candy and safe storage to my budget and plans. A few bags are not a problem but keeping 20 large bags from melting while towing 500 miles is a challenge.

No melting if you don't by chocolates. Try sticking with lollipops and hard candy.

Peg fences are a start but unless they have a CM checking bands and limiting outside guests it's just a waste of time. This home school person could just open the gate for as many people as they wanted. Also how many of us nice people would hold the gate for someone walking up with kids or stuff in their arms ? Michael it has gotten much busier each year. Four years ago on our first Halloween is was manageable but last year was basic pandemonium. Now we know why. We love the Fort and love Halloween. It's just sad that greedy people take advantage of situations and Disney turns a blind eye. I'm really on the fence about canceling because of this and some other reasons.

Hopefully with it not being on a weekend, it won't be so crazy. This is our first time for Halloween, so can't compare how it is at the Fort, but I know at home I get twice as many kids when Halloween falls on a Friday or Saturday, then when it falls on a weekday.

We took the cover off our trailer this weekend. Camping season has officially started for this Florida family. Even though it's officially Fall, it is still in the mid 90's here so I am really hoping Mother Nature will send a little cooler weather our way before our first trip. We head to a state park 10/7 for the weekend, then we can start the serious planning and packing for our Halloween Fort trip. I already have all my golf cart decorations set aside, now to gather all the yard decorations we want to take. Have a feeling we will fill every available packing space for this trip.

Come up here to NEPA. Woke up to the 40's. Checking my weather station history and It got as low as 37 during the past week. It won't be long before the DW is going to want me to turn the heat on in the house! (Ugh)

That is part of the reason that Fences are going up around all the pool areas. When we were at the Fort in August, they were nearing completion. They were working on the fences that go by the Snack bar and the actual Gate areas. I suspect that when we get down there in November (Thanksgiving) that they will have them working. Might even be done now, that's how close they were when we were there.
Was there a few weeks ago and the fences were up at the pool. Not one CM checked bands. Anyone could really walk in. Got an email and a call about my concerns, they said they are fully aware of the problem and are taking measures to correct it. They said i can call anytime to voice any concerns i have. I love Halloween and think that its sucha wonderful time for kids at the fort, i just dont like being taken advantage of by people who like to work the system.

SamRoc, thanks for your due diligence on finding the website and for all of you who have expressed your concerns to Fort/WDW management.

The folks who will be there will have to tell us what steps they see being taken by management and how effective they were. Personally I have low expectations based on their past performance but I still have hope.

Agree with Ed, past examples of "hurry up and do nothing" make me not get excited at all but maybe one of you guys will be able to post that I am wrong.

I guess it's time to have a Magic Band Reader at each site... Kids have to scan their bands to see if their eligible.

It's a crazy world and I don't imagine there will ever be a perfect solution. I can hear arguments on both sides... In the end, it's going to be the kids that will "suffer" (Such as it is). People won't stop staying at the Fort, but they will stop handing out the goodies for ToT regardless if you are staying at the Fort, Wilderness Lodge and come to the Fort, or if you are a "Local" (or someone else not a guest at WDW) who just tries to take advantage of it.

We have not participated in ToT at FW, mostly because we fly in so would have to buy treats after arriving. Due to the amount of Trick or Treaters this would be quite expensive. Having been there over Halloween we found the crowds were huge and they left a big mess, candy wrappers all over the ground. Fort staff had it cleaned up by the next day but to me this showed a complete lack of respect for what we consider to be our "home" when we are there.
I like the idea of ToT at FW, it is one of the activities that give the Fort that special atmosphere we have all come to love. I agree that something needs to be done or campers may not continue this fun event.

While it wouldn't stop all of it, perhaps posting signage that states that ToT is for the Guests of the Campground at Fort Wilderness ONLY. Certainly, it would disappoint some, but in the long run I think it's the right thing to do. Of course there will still be those folks who will try hoping they don't get caught, but at least it could reduce it.

Who knows... maybe there are just a lot of kids staying at the fort who ToT. For me it doesn't matter that much because we will not be there for that. We will be there for Thanksgiving. Hoping to find someone cooking a nice Turkey in their RV Oven that we can mooch off of. :lmao:

Finally going back after a two year hiatus. Really hope they get the outsider issue under control. Either they pay and stay or they need to go away!

I think a partial solution will end up being a Magic Band Reader on the transportation too. You will have to MB on the bus and boats.

In our early years at FW (Disney) we 'did' show one resort card ID for each party (family) riding on any of the Disney transportation. Guess they stopped that when they began to have so many resorts/restaurants/parks and there were many that were not staying on property using those amenities, etc.

Well at this point just showing isn't (or wouldn't be) enough. Everyone can get a MB (which is the "New" card) and of course you keep them. Not that I long for them (Disney) to implement a reader at the transportation sites (Buses, ferries, mono-rail) it would certainly reduce some abuse. Although things would get to be a nightmare during the mass exodus at the end of the night.

Anyone know how long it takes to get MB. Our trip to WDW is not till Oct 23 but we have more vacation before and leave in a week.

If they have not mailed them, they normally send an email that says they are on the way.

Did you already customize them?

If you did not get the email yet, then call them and they can hold them until you check in.

we are at the Fort Oct 28 to Nov 10, This morning I received the email that the MB are in the mail... sambuster

Yes we got the email but they have not move in over a week when I track them. Maybe they will show up early next week. I will just pack old MB just in case.

Your old MBs should work. You can always double check you my Disney experience on a computer though. You can find all MBs listed for each person and if they are mapped right.

We had several and all worked correctly other than one or two.

Sorry to read about the ToT chaos at FW. We are staying at FW over Halloween (first stay!). Our plans on Halloween are MK, rest, Cart parade, dinner BBQ at FW, then watching the Fireworks. NOT giving out candy, but we are in a cabin anyway. We will see the decorations prior to the 31st.

I am so excited!!

Yikes just saw the cart parade is the 30th, and the pet contest is the 31st?
