California Grill Recommendations

My wife and I have a 9:15 reservation at the California Grill on Valentine's Day in 2017. We are looking at spending time at the Magic Kingdom, catching Wishes (8PM close as of right now), and then going to a late dinner. Conversely, if hours are lengthened, we are going to try and get an early reservation (around 5ish) and then head to Magic Kingdom or EPCOT for the evening.

Having never been to California Grill, what are some of your favorites? What's not to be missed and what can you pass on?

Thanks!

The menu changes too often to predict what will be on it in February. You could look at current menus. But we have never had a dish we did not like. All meal have been excellent. I think it depends more on the type of food you like.

I'm not really a big fan of sushi and neither is my wife, but there have been a lot of good looking menus. I thought they had a somewhat stable menu with a few things rotating out but if not we'll be surprised. We can pretty much always find something that sounds good!

That sounds good. As long as one is not picky there always excellent choices. We've eaten there about 4-5 times over the years and always been able to see the fireworks. But skipping it this November for something new.

The Cali Grill does have a menu that changes seasonally, but I will strongly recommend the Sonoma goat cheese ravioli if it's available when you dine there. One of my most favorite appetizers at WDW!

I highly recommend the Spicy Kazan Roll or Charcuterie to start.

Unfortunately, the Pork Two Ways is off the menu. The Oak Fired Filet and the Scallops are things we've enjoyed there before.

And the barstaff there know how to make a proper Manhattan!

I'm wondering if anyone has had the wagyu ribeye there. ribeye is my favorite cut of steak... but I won't lie, filet + risotto is one of my favorite combos too. I am going in december.

We love California Grill (and have an ADR there in 17.5 hours...not that I am counting down or anything :woohoo:). The pork tenderloin is my favorite and I like the sushi as well. It's hard to imagine a bad meal there. Your Valentines Day sounds like it is going to be awesome!

I had the pork two ways a couple of weeks ago - I seem to recall that the menu no longer actually said that, but it was still the tenderloin + pork belly. And still delicious!

I have only been once and it wasn't too long ago. I got the scallops and they were to die for. We shared an app...the BLT flatbread and that was really really good too. SIL and BIL got the filet which they love (they have been there many times) but it was tiny compared to my big plate of giant scallops

The goat cheese ravioli was delicious. The tuna 3 ways was good but nothing fantastic. The crispy rock shrimp salad is the one that all others that I eat are judged by. I  that salad!

This is our favorite place. I loved the scallops.MY wife and daughter said the Filet of beef was one of there best meals ever!!! Chocolate pudding cake is so good.

I thought the oak-fired filet there was amazing the night that we ate there. My husband had scallops, they were good, but the filet was better:)

Stealing the thread a bit here. I'm interested in knowing CG recommendations too. Would you know how often the menu changes? We're going in two weeks!

Rock Shrimp Salad, Goat Cheese Ravioli, and Tuna 3 Ways has been on the menu over the last couple years I've been going, and I've visited at different times of the year. I really hadn't noticed any seasonal changes at all, but perhaps some of the standards that I like are just staying put while others rotate on and off.
