Oasis or Quantum class for first time on Royal (after Disney)

We have been on 4 Disney cruises, both the Dream class and Classic ships.
Love Disney but it's getting to be too expensive to go every year since it's not the only vacation we take.
We saw Allure of the Seas in port with us last week and it looks impressive. We really want to try one of the newer Royal ships and during our March break next year the prices are like half of Disney Fantasy.
The first choice which is by far the most convenient as far as the embarkation port is Anthem of the Seas out of NYC. We were ready to book when I realized that the Quantum class does not have the Boardwalk or Central park which I was really looking forward to. But the price is so good and we could drive to port.... Then there is Harmony of the Seas or Oasis/Allure from Florida.
Our DS is nearly 8, loves everything Disney but I think he would enjoy Royal too.
For those that have done both.. which do you recommend for our first time on Royal?

Sort of looking at the same thing. Either Oasis of the Seas or Freedom. Taking our second Dream cruise this February but not spending that much again. Looking through all the different boards leaning Oasis, traveling with 3 sons.

We did the Oasis last year when my daughter was 6. She LOVED it. The pools/splash area were great for her (SO much better than Disney). She loved the rock-climbing walls, the Madegascar breakfast, the free carousel, and the shows (Ice Skating, Aqua/Diving, and Cats). She hasn't done the Flowrider or Zipline yet. Our homeport is NY/NJ as well but for our upcoming Pres. Week cruise, we're going with the Allure. The Anthem has bumper cars, etc. but I think the Allure really fits the bill for us - especially because of the shows (I've booked 5 already)! And she is probably ready for the Flowrider now! The different neighborhoods are fun and there are so many (free) options for food (as well as specialty restaurants). We also love that they have a dinner buffet (hot, freshly cooked food to order)! Royal just had a BOGO60 off sale and our travel agent booked us ocean view balcony for two for just over $2,000. The same week/category room on the Fantasy for two is just over $6,000! IMO DCL is just not worth 3x as much.

Perfect timing on this question, I was ready to put down a deposit tonight on the Harmony (yay water slides) next year after doing the Dream this year. Mine will be 6 and 8 next year.

Only thing better than the Oasis/Allure is the Oasis/Allure with water slides aka the Harmony! Enjoy!

I've gone the other way (Allure -> Fantasy) and next year going back to Harmony. So I can't speak to Quantum class.

I do think that Oasis class can be overwhelming because of sheer size, but it just takes a bit of planning and you can avoid the crowds. Example: avoiding Windjammer at breakfast and eating at Johnny Rockets (free at breakfast) or Wipeout cafe.

Adventure Ocean will be different. Because it is a bit more structured and kids are grouped according to age, your kids will be able to tell you after day 1 if it's right for them or not.

KashasMom - The last few cruises the munchkin and I have taken have been on Disney. Since she's only 5 it's all she knows. This December we'll be going on the Allure. I'm very happy to hear your daughter enjoyed the Oasis last year. The one thing I am most curious about is the kid's club. Did she enjoy it? I understand it's a lot more structured than Disney's.

I have two kids...my son is 15 and my daughter is 11 1/2. I absolutely love DCL, and we are trying a RCCL Med Cruise next summer for the first time on Independence of the Seas (Freedom Class). I hope we like it, since it's 14 nights! We also like to cruise DCL President's week each year...this upcoming February we are doing Disney Fantasy again. But when it was time to book President's week 2018, it was the SAME exact itinerary on DCL and the price was almost $7700 for an Oceanview Family stateroom for my family of 4...NOT EVEN A BALCONY! So we decided against our traditional DCL cruise and booked RCCL ALLURE OF THE SEAS for President's week 2018! We booked TWO connecting Boardwalk balcony staterooms for almost HALF the price of ONE OCEANVIEW ON DCL! And I figure, I'm definitely not slumming if I do Allure instead of Disney Fantasy. So what I'm trying to say is...I HOPE WE LIKE RCCL!!!

I think RCCL is a good choice with the age of your kids. We sailed on IOS last summer when my kids were 10,12 and 14. They loved it and we're sailing on IOS again this upcoming President's Week.

We loved both the Oasis class and Freedom class- you guys are going to love! I can't wait to get back on either!

She had a bad experience in the Disney kids' club and I can't get her back in. She was fine on Royal and NCL. I've been reading a lot that kids like the clubs on other lines because they get more individual attention than on Disney. That being said, my daughter never spends a lot of time in any kids' club.

We did an amazing Baltic/Russian cruise on the Serenade this past summer. It was 13 nights with 1 sea day. We were so happily exhausted. We had breakfast in the Windjammer and most nights we had dinner there as well. There weren't too many kids on our cruise but I think it was the itinerary. My daughter was fine though. When it was too cold to swim they opened the (indoor) adult pool for kids. Service was excellent, food was good, and best of all our balcony stateroom for the 3 of us was less than half the price of an inside stateroom on a Disney European cruise.

We're doing President's week 2017 on the Allure. :-) Got a super deal on an oceanview balcony - and then there was a BOGO60 off sale and we saved even more! Very excited.

Thank you. Glad to know she enjoyed Royal's kids club. Sorry to hear about her experience in Disney's kid club.
