What are your family momento traditions?

I'm going to be bringing my (soon to be) 9 month old on her first trip to Walt Disney World in January and was brainstorming what kinds of traditions I might like to start for her. A couple ideas I've had were to buy her a special pin representing something she enjoyed and continue that for each trip, and/or to take a picture of her in front of something that's unlikely to be changed for a sense of scale.

What kinds of family traditions do you have, especially if you started them for your kids when they were very small on their first trip?

A charm each trip to put on a bracelet or a pearl to eventually make a necklace? We have done the picture thing with the goofy on the bench on main street. Maybe a picture with a mickey bar each year? The same restaurant for your first night or last breakfast meal?

Thanks @Thing 1 ! I actually don't know the Goofy bench somehow.... Also love the Mickey bar idea (can't imagine those ever changing!) and the charm/pearl idea! I'd love to keep it in a jewellery baggie for her until shes 18 or something... :)

My DD always takes a picture of our DGD in DTD at the same place. Every trip. DGD is 15 now so we have a lot of pictures.

I started doing pins for my kids and each trip they get a new lanyard. At the end of the trip, I take back the lanyards. My goal is to put them in a display case or book for them, along with a few pics of them wearing them to prevent any conspiracy theories. It sort of captures thier mind sets of what was cool then. I also make sure I get a few extra 2016 year pins and put those on the lanyards as well

We get an ornament every time we go, well any vacation we get an ornament.

Have her sit in the metal MICKEY head at the contemporary outside near the pool. I wish I did that sooner but I just found it last trip 3 yrs ago....ok I never looked for it!

We were going to chef mickeys for our first night dinner but since all 3 kids are now Disney adults, youngest is 10...sigh...that wiped the budget out!

Find a spot that you like the view and go every visit and take a picture with your kid(s).

Loving these ideas!! Thanks everyone!

I've never heard of this but we're going to be at BLT a couple nights so I will definitely seek it out!

I have a huge collection of ornaments and year plates.

I also have a huge collection of lanyards with pins that every family member gets to pick one for every trip.

And since you mentioned your baby is nine months old I suggest if you haven't gotten the first haircut yet to do it there both of my kids got their first haircuts on Main Street in the barbershop and they blew bubbles and both of my kids got hats with Mickey ears. Mind you, my son is nearly 19 and my daughter is nearly 18 so I'm going back a ways but I can tell you I love having those pictures on my walls.

Before I forget I also have a collection of one leaf or flower from somewhere during my trip for every trip I've ever been on with my family. I buy those really small photo frames that fit wallet photos and display the dried flowers or leaves. Most people think that I bought them that way they don't realize they are mementos from trips

Ornaments from Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in MK. I'm Christmas obsessed and put up our big tree and two smaller ones throughout the house so we have a Disney tree.

I don't buy at the parks but while I'm talking Disney Christmas, I'm also starting a Disney Christmas village this year with the Department 56 Disney pieces. Selling my old Christmas village to make room for the Disney pieces which I'm super excited about. :)

What an original idea to have a flower or leaf from each trip! I'm so impressed! I will look into the first haircut there-- I didn't think we'd last that long (because she has a ton of hair) but she has to wear a cranial remodeling helmet so her long hair hasn't been in the way and luckily I think the timing would be perfect! (Can't wait to bid farewell to her baby mullet.)

I like something dated that says where we are and it's something I do anywhere I go. My mom has a huge collection of dated holiday tree ornaments (including one specifically for all the kids first christmas that she gave to us as we left the nest). I personally get a dated coffee mug. I like the pin idea and there are many attraction and character ones that are also dated. Maybe you can get one for the resort with the year on it?

Just watch out for the generic disneyparks ones, I like to get actual disneyworld dated things.

We have a few traditions.

Each trip DS gets a pin with the year on it

We also get a dated ornament

Have his silhouette cut. It's amazing how they change over time. My FAVORITE commemorative souvenir of each trip.

We also always snap a selfie with DS kissing my cheek near the Walt & Mickey founders statue, showing the statue and the castle in the background. What started as a silly yet sweet candid moment has now become tradition and is always my favorite photograph from each of our trips.

For myself, I always get an Alex and Ani bracelet with the year on it. Pick a pearl would be a good idea or even a Pandora bracelet adding a charm each trip.

Like many others, we all pick an ornament each year and that started the first time we took our kids at ages 4 & 11 mos. We make sure it either has the year on it or we have them write the year on it at the Christmas store in DS.
I really wish I'd started the whole taking a picture in the same spot each trip thing, but now they're 14 & 11 so.........:( I think that's really neat!

I'd love to know about everyone's traditons
I'm taking my son on his first vacation, Disney of course.
In about a month my family is taking their first Disney cruise!

We do the charms/charm bracelets. We just don't do them for Disney, though. Any special occasion and trip.

Dated ornaments and dated year pin (also a pin from whatever resort we're staying at)
